I have read many posts about certain foods temporarily knocking someone out the Zone. How does a person know that a certain food knocks them out of the Zone for a bit?

I am perfectly healthy and the tests, stats and such I sometimes read about are very foreign to me. Therefore, I'd like to know how a person physically feels when they ate an unfavorable food and has effects from it.

The reason of me asking is last weekend, about a couple hours after supper, I ate two scoops of vanilla ice cream drenched in Hershey's chocolate syrup and I decided this treat will be in place of my nightly bedtime snack. I know, I know...I do not miss nor do I crave anything from the bread, cereal and grain food group, breaded and deep fried foods, chips, pretzels or pizza. However I can not break free from chocolate cravings. I am a self-professed chocolate snob and miss my Godiva chocolates or in a pinch, Hershey's chocolate kisses or M & Ms. The chocolate zone bars really taste bad too. However, the chocolate raspberry bars are YUMMY!

Anyways, the next day after eating the ice cream and chocolate I felt and looked bloated and my digestion was not moving well. The daily b.m. was slow-going and all day I felt I had a rock in my stomach. I also felt "heavy". I have felt this way after eating an unfavorable in the past. Is what I felt the signs of "being knocked out of the zone"?

Thanks for your advise!

Yes.

Your symptoms are most likely the effect of the sundae you ate the day before. Bloating would be from elevated insluin causing fluid retention. The slower bowels would be form the over porduction of bad eicosanoids. Some people would also feel the more immediate effects 2 oor 3 hours after eating it (hunger, tiredness, jitter, spacy, etc.).

Try a couple small pieces of a high cocoa content organic chocolate bar. Dagoba's "Eclpise" is a good one. It's relatively low in carb, about 2 C blocks in an entire bar. A couple small pieces after a meal wouldn't really need to be counted. Just don't go overboard! :)
