Hello,
I just got my test result and now I am confused,
I got AA/EPA = 1.89, which is in the good range between 1.5 and 2.
But my EPA is only 3.82, and it says that EPA should be between 7 and 9. But if I start taking more of EPA, then will it break the good proportion of AA/EPA? AA = 7.21

Also GLA is 0.03 and DGLA 1.31. Do I combine them together? It says GLA should be between 0.2 and 0.35. If I don't combine GLA and DGLA then my GLA is too low, but if I combine, then it's too high.
There is also ALA = 0.33, and DHA = 6.01.

Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Emma,

Congrats on you good result!

I can't answer your qns, but I do have some comments. The ranges you're mentioning may be what the testing facility you used recommends, but maybe not necessarily what Barry Sears deems optimal (not sure, just a possibility). For instance, his acceptable AA/EPA range is 1.5 to 3, rather than 1.5 to 2. My AA/EPA was done by Nutrasource Diagnostics, and they show their own recommended ranges for risk factors. I'm curious. If you don't mind me asking, what is your actual AA level?

Thanks!

I am reading this article-
http://www.drsears.com/ArticlePreview/tabid/399/itemid/68/Default.aspx
It says: The lower the AA:DGLA ratio the greater your potential to make “good” eicosanoids to enhance wellness and essentially reverse aging. Ideally the AA:DGLA ratio should be less than 3.
My AA/DGLA = 7.2/1.31 comes out 5.5.
How do I make DGLA higher? And why is it low anyway? Thanks

Emma,

Thanks for the link to that article. My AA/DGLA was 4 on my last test (1 yr ago this month). When I got my test results last year, Barry recommended I double my Eico Rx dose, which I did. I assume that both my AA/EPA and my AA/DGLA are both a little lower now due to increasing my fosh oil dose. I'm on a very small dose of Eico Rx (2 caps), so please don't read into this that you should double the amount you take.
