Hi!
I'm just starting out on the zone and I'm trying to use my existing favorite recipes so I don't get overwhelmed. I'm having trouble figuring out how to calculate a 3 block serving from this dish. It has olives and garbanzo beans in it so I don't know how to get the right amount without picking them out. Here's the recipe. Can anyone help me calculate the blocks? TIA!

1 box Pene Pasta (I use Barilla w/protein)
1 large can of crushed tomatoes
3 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 tsp. red pepper flakes
1 tsp olive oil
6 greek olives sliced
1 16 oz can garbanzo beans
fresh basil
sliced green onions to garnish

Hi Jennifer!

Once the dish is prepared, you'd consider about 1/3 cup of it to be 1 block of unfavorable C. No need to count the fat because there would be less than 1 F block to each C block.

If you're using Barilla Plus, you may want to count some of the protein in it depending upon how clear the cooking water looks once the pasta is done. I'd say a good rule of thumb is that if the cooking water is cloudy after cooking the pasta, don't count the protein in the pasta iteslf because much of it has probably leached out into the cooking water.
