So I was making my lunch this morning and I noticed the nutrition content on the back of the bread bag. It said that 2 slices was 18g of carbs with 4g of fiber. Now the zone chart shows 1/2 slice is 1 block. I realize the zone chart is generic and does not account for all the different types of food out there. To be more accurate should I be gaging my blocks off of the nutrition content off of the food package?
Thanks.

Yes!

Also, keep in mind that bread is unfavorable carb. Dr. Sears recommends to limit unfavorable carb to not more than 25% of all the carb in a meal.

Christian,

YOur question :

To be more accurate should I be gaging my blocks off of the nutrition content off of the food package?

Something I have observed those newly introduced to The Zone Eating Plan is acquiring the impression that in order to "get into The Zone" with a meal or snack the "balance" - through whatever method they are trying to use - is a very narrow range and more importantly that if you are off even slightly it's a "hit of misss" situation:

You are "in the Zone" or "in the drink !"

Not so at all - The "Zone" hormonaly that you are attempting to put your biochemistry into is a RANGE -

BEING IN ANY PART OF IT - is GOOD !!!

The typical American food consumer - EVEN eating "the right stuff" - but in the "wrong combinations" - IS RARELY "in the Zone" at all.

If you are making a reasonable attempt to "balance" your food intake you are most likely "in the Zone" a good part of the day.

For ANYONE - this is typically a HUGE IMPROVEMENT.

**************

Now - as to using labels for balancing :

Probably the most accurate way to balance - and for some - the easiest.

It's very cut and dry : You read the label, add up F,C, & P - that's it.

*** Again - do not "obsess" about the "gram count" For a 4 block MEAL the goal is 36 grams of Carbohydrates. If you add up the labels and the total is 39 - GREAT ! EAT ! EAT !

AS time goes on you will become very aware of what the nutritional content [ fats, carbs, and protein ] is for most if not all of your favorite foods and many basic combinations that you use frequently. It won't be long before you are wondering what was so difficult - trust me - it WILL happen.

For some reason we - typical Americans - like to think of ourselves as "roaming gourmonds" advenerously sampling a baccanalia of dining choices on a daily basis.

IN fact we are just the opposite - about 80% of us eat 80% of the same things.

Why do you think "independent" [ non chain ] resaurants have almost become extinct ?

This has been analyzed and the #1 reason is because people KNOW what they wil
