Two favorites at my house:

1. Toss 2 blocks of cooked Zone Fusilli with 1 block sliced cooked turkey or chicken Italian flavored sausage, 1 block cherry tomatoes sliced in half, Zone Olive Oil and some grated parmesan. Makes a 3 block meal. It's delicious either hot or cold.

2. A tuna salad of cooked Zone Pennette, canned tuna, chopped celery and green pepper, mixed with a dressing of low fat mayo, lemon juice and black pepper (or Zone Olive Oil, lemon juice and black pepper).

We've also enjoyed it with pasta sauce and meatballs.

lynn,

You're welcome!

I've also been thinking of trying a couple blocks with a cheese sauce as the third block, maybe have strawberries with it for dessert. I eat very little dairy, so I haven't gotten around to trying that yet. I'd love to hear if you come up with any recipes using it. Oh, almsot forgot, I've also added a little of it to some veggie soups I make.

Ziti is pasta shaped like medium to larger sized tubes. It's something like the shape of Zone Pennette, but a bit larger. A common way I've seen it prepared (not in the Zone!) is cooked then mixed with pasta sauce and baked. You could probably find a photo of it if you google it.

Well, I must get up onto my "soap box" again about the Zone pasta.

First, it is nice to have a pasta option, but I don't really see how the Zone pasta can be a favorable carb item in the Zone?

The recipes that the Zone has given us do not follow the general Zone guidelines of "no more than 25% of unfavorable carbs per meal" And, unless there is something that I don't know about the Zone pasta, it appears to me that the carb portion of the pasta is completely unfavorable.

So, based on that, I would rather save my money and buy regular pasta from the grocery store, and pair it up with my own protein and fat. Really, there are many more options available, because your protein and fat is not limited due to the protein/fat content as in the zone pasta.

Better yet, perhaps using Dreamfield's pasta is an even better idea, as the package claims to have only 5 grams of insulin-stimulating carb per 2 oz serving. Not sure if this is really true, but if it is true, then I would guess that this pasta is a better choice than the Zone pasta.

(BTW, I am a former pasta-holic, but the closest that I have come to a pasta meal since beginning my journey in the Zone is spaghetti squash!)

lynn,

I came up with a new pasta recipe this morning. Zone pasta with peanut sauce. It makes 2 3-block meals. I cooked 120 grams (6 blocks) Zone Fusilli, drained it, and chilled it in the fridge for a couple hours. Then I mixed a generous 2 tablespoons of crunchy peanut butter with a little soy sauce and water to make a sauce. I tossed the cold pasta, with the peanut sauce and some chopped green onions (scallions). The sauce adheres very well to the cold pasta. It's delicious! We're taking it with us to the beach today for lunch!

The best thing I've found as a pasta "alternative" is the spagetti squash too. Its so easy to just bake it and then have healthful spagetti with your Zoned homemade meatsauce.

Again, not to sound like a broken record, but the Zone Pasta does NOT adhere to the Zone guidelines, being that no more than 25% of the carbs from your meal should come from unfavorable sources. I would encourage everyone interested in trying the Zone pasta to read the label. Just because it is a "Zone" product, does not make it a good carb choice.

Sue, thank you for two more yummy recipes. The pasta sounds great, I'll be sure to try it.

Do you buy your Zone products with the auto-ship? I've been contemplating giving that a try.

hi cranberrycat

in reply to your note above , the zone pasta may not be a favourable carb, but there are a lot of other things that are also not favourable ,and we still eat those. There are ZONE recipes in the zone menus for using pasta made by LYNN SEARS, so i should imagine that if you use it wisely and not at every meal it wont be that bad to eat, personaly ,i think its great to have and its also something else to maket thats different.
By the way SUE i made the peanut butter recipe you sent me it was really yummy ,i will be having that one again !!!!!

Hi cici!

How's it going?

You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed my recipes. :)

I have a couple of autoships. :) I've got a 30 day one for the things I use more often, and a 60 day one for those I use less of. It's great! You can call to add or drop items at any time. You can also call and purchase with one time shipments in addition to your autoship, in case you want to try something new, but you aren't yet sure if you'd like to receive it with each autoship.

Cheers!

Hi Sue :)

Today I placed my first Zone order! Yay! I ordered the pasta, the cereal, and the sampler order for the Zone bars and the Zone shakes.

I'm looking forward to making your tuna pasta salad above.

Hi cici!

Great! You've got to try the newest bars, with your next order. I LOVE them!

I decided to bring the tuna salad to a 4th of July picnic. I'm going to use Zone Fusilli, add some minced red onion and change the dressing to Zone olive oil and lemon juice.

Lynn,

Thanks for your reply regarding the pasta.

Yes, I agree that there are many things that are also not favorable, and are still published in zone books.

IMO, the recipes SHOULD be zoned following the Zone guidelines. Having recipes that do not follow the guidelines gives "newbies" the impression that these things are OK to eat.

Again, just my opinion, but I really think that those who "preach" a zone lifestyle should NOT be recommending things like the pasta, which does not fit into the Zone guidelines.
(and BTW, I am not directing that statement at you! LOL)

To cici:

I just finished making my huge bowl of Zone Pasta and tuna salad for tomorrow. I made it early so it would chill thoroughly and the flavors could mix together. Tomorrow I plan to freshen it up by tossing in a little of the dressing that I reserved.

The salad contains about 40-42 P blocks in a balance so that a 3 block meal would be about 3P, 2 1/2 C, 4 or 5 F, and it's delicious! I used approximately the following: 2 1/2 packages of Zone Fusilli, a few cans of tuna (drained), 3 large green peppers, 5 or 6 stalks of celery, 1/2 a red onion (minced finely), and a dressing of: about 100 blocks of Zone Olive Oil (the pasta's fat free), the juice of 4 lemons, white wine vinegar, onion powder, grey sea salt and coarsely ground black pepper.

I just ate a block of it for my snack! :)
