Bev-Ann,
Since I only used 1/2 cup milk, that is only 6 grams of carb. I forget the carb count of my yogurt, but there is a big difference in P/C from one brand to the next, and I usually buy one that fits better in the Zone, with an appropriate P/C ratio. The cottage cheese also contains a bit of carb, but just 2 grams. So far, I only see 1/2 block extra in my smoothie.

In addition, I don't generally worry too much about being "on the number" accurate with my carb grams. It is more important to be consistent, though. So, if I had a good meal response based on the recipe that I used, it really should not matter if I went over a few grams of carb, because it worked out, and I could repeat that recipe. However, if I have a poor meal response, then I would see the need to make adjustments.

And, since I am a Zoner, I would not be dropping the zone blocks. I guess I am a "blockhead"! Sure, there may be some inaccuracies here and there, but there may be some explanation behind how things are assigned, a bit more science that we have not uncovered. I have used Fitday, and I basically like using what I have set up (even though it is more work to set up). That way, I can track blocks, grams, meal satiety, GL, and all the things that I would like to track. I don't think that Fitday would track blocks for me.

I don't understand...aren't you having a "poor meal response" and that's why you're adding fat and now fibre?
I must have input something wrong the first time because when I did it again, your smoothie comes out to 28g net carbs assuming plain yogurt. My apologies. :-) But it's going to provoke a high insulin response with all the milk ingredients. I think you should lay off the milk ingredients to see if it will give you better hunger control.
In the cookbook "Zone Meals in Seconds", I remember Mrs. Sears going through the types of "Zoners" (there are four, I think) and only newbies use the lists. She says that a master Zoner uses the correct data and eats only low-GL foods. So I suggest that you use FitDay to log your meals and get the correct data. You can still use your other system for the things FitDay won't track.
Out of curiosity, how were you eating before The Zone? Were you hungry between meals then too?

Everyone , keep in mind that the Zone is not a bunch of numbers on a piece of paper that have to add up to a certain amount. Most important is acheiving insulin control and to lowering silent inflammation. Cranberry's most recent post about her response to the smoothie she had on 2/21 shows a step in the right direction.

Bev-Ann,
I think that Sue has a good point in what she says. It isn't all about a page of numbers. I don't think FitDay will really help me out. Perhaps, not even my compilation on the spreadsheet--although I think that my compilation will be more helpful to me because it will help me with a quick snapshot for portion size (by using blocks), a generalization on whether the food is favorable or unfavorable, and an idea of what the GL is, how much fiber, and vitamin content.

Then, as I put the diary together, I can look at all of these factors to determine what kinds of foods are giving me the best response.

Your comments about the smoothie and the dairy are important to me, but I hope you understand that I generally don't even use smoothies in my diet. I rarely depend on them for meals, but there are times that they do come in handy. That is why I don't have my vanilla protein powder-because I don't eat smoothies enough to warrant having it around!

And, I am not familiar with the quote that Lynn made in the book (what page was that on?), but if that is what she said, I would have to disagree. I beleive that "master zoners" are those who are totally in tune with their bodies and how they react to certain foods (or food groups). As a Zoner, I already know that I have poor meal responses when I use low GL foods, but if I mix in a small amount of moderate GL foods, then my meal response is greatly improved.

Since I had not really considered the impact of soluble vs. insoluble fiber, I think that this might be a useful comparison to make, to see if I can tolerate those lower GL meals better with the addition of the soluble fiber.

Cran, a tip about adding soluble fiber supplements....increase your water intake or you could end up very constipated from the supplemental soluble fiber, especially right now when you've briefly curtailed your FO intake, which can negatively impact movement in the bowel.

Thanks, Sue. I have not really noticed that difference yet. And, with the EicoRx, I did not have a noticeable difference with the stool as I did with the OmegaRx (until I tried to up the dose too much). Perhaps might take a few days, though, so I will keep that in mind. My fluid intake has been pretty good lately.
