Hey...I am hoping that some of you crossfitters can help me out. I do a crossfit workout and hike with a 20 lb vest five days a week. I weigh 130 and 28 waist and 34 hips. I calculated that I need 13 blocks a day but am seriously exhausted. I am up at 4 am and go to bed around 9-10. Am I taking in enough blocks for this type of schedule? I've been doing the zone for over a month now and still feel as though I am starving and have no energy. I have all the books and am following the menus to the letter...any advice? Thanks!!

Jessica, have you checked you starting LBM and current LBM? If so, has it changed, and how?

Also, try to get at least 8 hours of sleep and begin keeping a food diary.

I'd need you height to know you height to make an accurate block recommendation. You should be using the very active level in the calculator. This is .9 grams of protein per pound of LBM, when calculating by hand. If your LBM is around 105 ( a guess on my part), that would be 14 blocks daily with any extra energy needs being met with additional monounsaturated fat blocks. The way you respond to you carb choices can also cause hunger, and lack of energy.

Sometimes, I am just not convinced that the bodyfat calculator is always accurate. I would say, since the calculator is advising what you need to maintain your lean body mass, I would recommend increasing your blocks--as you are likely building more lean body mass.

Sorry about forgetting the height:) I'm 5'5...a bit more info. on how I am eating: I do not any any grains what so ever..no oatmeal, bread, etc. All my carbs come from veggies and some fruits..mostly the berries. I wish I could get the full eight but I do my best:) How much fish oil would you recommend for me? Will I still be able to drop weight if I up my blocks and fat? Also, I ended up very dizzy and lethargic last week and doctor said that I was somewhat ketonic. Not sure why...thanks!!!

That puts yor LBM at 104.85. (105 was a good guess on my part! )

The calc. gives you 13 blocks. By hand it comed ou to 13.5, so I'd go with at least 14.

You are already at an ideal body fat, so you're most likely not going to go much lower, nor should you. Extra fat will not be a problem if you find you need more energy than 14 bloock supplies.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the full eight". Adding some medium and/or higher density carbs might help you feel better also. If you doctor has determined you are in ketosis, not just guessing, it means that you're not eating enough carbs in relation to the amount of protein you're eating.

The recommended maintenance amount of fish oil is 4 capsules or 1 teaspoon of Omega Rx or Eico Rx daily. It increases if you have pain or other health concerns.
