Was wondering if Dr. Sears had been affiliated in the past with Zone Pefect, and why he is no longer. Something I saw when browsing the forums indicated that he "is no longer affiliated with Zone Perfect". Thanks.

I believe that the ZP people were willing to compromise quality and principles for the almighty buck and so, Dr. Sears decided to go his own way. ~Michelle

Last week I was speaking with a nutritionist who is listed as a Zone Certified Instructor for both Zone Labs and Zone Perfect. I contacted him because I wanted information regarding becoming a Zone Certified Instructor and getting his advice as to which organization would he recommend. During our conversation, he gave me a little bit of history. Dr. Barry Sears and Dr. Paul Kahl partnered and formed a company called Eichotech (or something to that effect). Dr. Sears left the company, Dr. Kahl remained and changed the name of the company to Zone Perfect. Dr. Sears was more concerned with research whereas Dr. Kahl was more concerned with marketing product. Dr. Sears went on to form Zone Labs. Dr. Kahl ended up selling Zone Perfect to Abbott Labortories (a pharmaceutical company).

If you discovered the cure for the common cold would you give the pills away for free? It's the profit motive that drives the R&D of the pharm. industry. I've recently posted Ayn Rand passages on another Zone website; don't make me do it here! 8)

Yes, it makes sense that there was a past link. After I got the books and before I found drsears.com, I went to a URL listed in one of the books and it forwarded me to the zoneperfect.com site. For a long time, I thought that WAS the Zone page. Oops! Robbin

It depends on who you are talking to. The Sears side of the story has been widely repeated but the other story is that Sears did not control enough of the Eicotech interest so he left to form his own company with much more controlling interest. Smart financial move.

Smart financial move.[/quote:106523a768] I believe that the reason he wanted more control was so that he could improve the products as new research demonstrated changes were needed to fulfill the promise of the Zone. Zone Perfect did not want to change their profitable manufacturing line. I don't really know if this is how it went down, but if I was in Dr. Sears shoes, that is exactly the way I would think about the system I created with my name and reputation associated with it. I would not believe this was the answer except I have tried the Zone Prefect bars and the Dr. Sears bars (including the Hershey's version) and I can say without a doubt that for me the Zone Perfect bars are an inferior product relative to hunger suppression time by a factor of two.

Hi, You many or may not be aware that the ZP bars available today are not the same ones they sold when Barry Sears was associated with that copany. The peanut butter flavor, which might still be offered, is not even the same formulation of ingredients as contained in their original peanut butter flavor bar. When it was reformulated (after Barry Sears cut ties with the company) it was advertised as the new improved version. It was at this time that ZP also began selling a myriad of other foods which, IMO, are Zoned on paper, but are not the types of foods one would eat often if one wishes to stay in the Zone. Sue

Sue[/quote:000d296923] That was a long time ago. Since Sears left and developed new products, not many of his new products are exactly the same as his original ones. Everything old and new changes with the times. And especially the bars Sears is selling today WILL CHANGE IN TIME.

That of course invalidates the logic behind my assumption about Dr. Sears motives. In that case, why would Zone Perfect change the formula to make their product inferior, unless they had to as part of the severing of relations (which means that Dr. Sears had rights to the original formula) :?:

They elected to introduce new "better tasteing" additional flavours to expand the market, they chose puffy rice as the base. and the new flavors are more likely to spike insulin levels. The original flavours work now, just as well as they did originally when Dr, Sears created them for what was then HIS company ZP. White Light

[quote:5de32772b8="gnissimoyw"][quote:5de32772b8="gofish"]......................., why would Zone Perfect change the formula to make their product inferior, .......................... :?:[/quote:5de32772b8] Who has the authority to make the asssumption that ZonePerfect bars are inferior or not to any other bars? Of the thousands and thousands who eat the bars, only a very few of these are interviewed. Just as you can find those who agree with your opinion, you can find just as many to contradict your opinion, if you look.[/quote:5de32772b8] I have tried out these bars according to the standard way of testing Zone foods. I was hungry in half the time with the Zone Perfect bars (even though I liked the taste). I wanted them to work (at less than half the cost) but I could not make them work for me. So for me they are inferior. If you have tested them in the standard Zone way and have a different experience, then by all means give your results for the benefit of others. I have seen a post on the GI values of several different bars. Zone Labs and Hershey's bars had far lower values than the others. Many people may be able to eat a higher GI snack and not feel any ill effects. So to that I say, "Let them eat cake".

That's dissapointing to hear coming from SCIENCE NEWS. I'm glad you complained. More people should do so.
