Does anyone know about "INULIN" Pos or Neg? Benefits or other? Occasionally I travel on business, via Air. AND on longer flights, I take along the ZONE bars, in order to get a balanced food and stay in Zone. However, Since Fruits and Vegetables are n/a on flights, I take along some Fiber One - sole ingredient is INULIN. It mixes well w/ water, and only 1 tsp = 5 g fibre, no calories, carbs, fats, etc. Seems like a perfect alternative to getting fibre. So, what is the downside (besides food co. charging $10 for small container.) ?

The yogurt I use contains inulin, and their website had this to say about it: http://www.stonyfield.com/Wellness/Inulin.cfm Of course, they're selling a product, but they list the studies they cite to support the claims, so it might help you w/ research. And strangely enough, their advising physician is named Dr. Sears... ;)

Inulin is a soluble fiber, and has some mild stimulant qualities according to a gastroenterologist. The better product is probably Benefiber, which contains Wheat Dextran.
