[color=darkblue:4fb6ce7a60] In today's newspaper (USA), though I live in Nashua, NH - I am assuming that this may be a National Blitz - there is an offer for a FREE Ultra-Refined Omega-3 Pure Plus product. I checked for details, many times offers like this come with the stipulation that you get free upon purchase of . . . Or that the first comes free and you enter into an autoship agreement, from which you must cancel . . . Not so with this offer. The only catch is the (high) S+H charge of $6.95. Details of product: The newspaper advertisement includes a chart comparing their product to the usual name brand health grade varieties, no surprise, there. However, thet also compare theirs to Dr. Sears brand. EPA: 894 vs. 450 DHA: 446 vs. 270 Total Omega-3: 1490 vs. 1200 Omega Concentration: 90% vs. 60% Enteric Coated: Yes vs. No USP Verified FO: Yes vs. No Now, I am not sure how they manage to achieve a 90% and keep the price at $20.00 - normal price when you buy three at a time.) That's $60.00 for 120 capsules. However, if their numbers are right, you only need 2 caps of theirs vs. 4 caps of Dr. Sears for the same dose of EPA/DHA. That's equivalent to .67 per day, almost as good as Natural Factors! (apart from S+H). [/color:4fb6ce7a60]

PBL's omega-3 product has been around for a couple years. If you look at your figures you will notice that the EPA and DHA are 90% of the total [u:6449357860]omega-3 content [/u:6449357860]--not 90% of the [u:6449357860]capsule content[/u:6449357860]. The advertising is a bit deceptive (they compute their concentration on omega-3 content, but Sears concentration on capsule content, and then compare the two). Looking at the USP for verified ingredients, only Ocean Nutrition Canada's fish oils have been verified by the USP, and none are over 60-70% concentrated.

I also believe the values you are citing for EPA and DHA are for the serving size (which may be more than one capsule). The product label states that 3 capsules is 36 calories from fat (4 grams). That's roughly a 1.3g capsule. That's less than the omega-3 content quoted (1490mg).

When that full-page ad ran in my local fish-wrapper, I crunched the numbers, then phoned the dude and told him he was selling snake oil.
