Southwest Salad

Recipe as submitted: I'll need your help with this one because I'm a rookie.

Ingredients:
Green leaf lettuce
3 oz. low-fat ground turkey
1/2 c. black beans
1/2 c. corn
1/2 c. salsa
1 serving of low-fat tortilla chips

Instructions:
Rinse and dry lettuce, chop. Add black beans and corn. In a skillet brown ground turkey. When the turkey is cooled, add it to the salad. Serve with a few tortilla chips. I like to add 2 tablespoons of low-fat ranch dressing. Please let me know how to "zonify" this recipe. Thanks, Michele R. Recipe Zoned: Hi, Michele: Here is an idea on how to Zone your Southwest Salad for a three-block meal. Green leaf lettuce 4 1/2 ounces ground turkey (3 blocks protein) 1/2 cup black beans (2 blocks carbohydrate) 1/2 cup salsa (1 block carbohydrate) 3 tablespoons guacamole (3 blocks fat) Rinse and dry lettuce, chop. Add black beans. In a non-stick skillet sprayed with vegetable spray, brown ground turkey. Mix in salsa. When the turkey is cooled, add it to the salad. Top with guacamole. As you can see, I got rid of the corn and tortilla chips and substituted guacamole for the dressing. (If you continue to use the dressing, use 1 tablespoon.) If you must have tortilla chips, remember only 1/2 ounce equals 1 block. You'll probably feel better with no chips at all or add just a couple and reduce salsa a bit. By the way, check the label. You'll probably find that the 'low-fat' variety contains more carbohydrate grams. You?re probably better off having a couple of the regular kind.
