Inconsistent information

Hello,

I wasn't sure where to post this comment, but it seems important, so please feel free to move it to a different topic.

I found some conflicting information in two different lists on the Zone website: the ZONE Food Blocks list from the http://www.zonediet.com/tools/zone-classic page, and the Grocery Additions list from the http://www.zonediet.com/plans/grocery-additions page. I assumed that the food amounts per block would be the same on these two lists, but that doesn't seem to be the case. For example, on the first page of the ZONE Food Blocks list, under Low Density Carbohydrates, for 1 block of cooked artichoke it gives an amount of 4 large; and on the grocery list, under cooked vegetables, it gives 1/2 medium artichoke, which is about one-eighth the size of the amount given on the first page. Similarly, for cooked broccoli, the first list gives 3 cups for a block while the second list gives 1/2 cup for a block, which is one-sixth the amount given on the first page. Many of the block amounts for cooked vegetables, raw vegetables and raw leafy greens are inconsistent between the two lists; the amounts on the ZONE Food Blocks list tend to be several times the amounts on the other list. There are also some minor inconsistencies with some of the fruit items. (The legumes amounts, however, are the same on both lists, except for the hummus amount.)

I also noticed one minor issue with the ZONE Food Blocks list: turkey bacon is listed under both the Best Choices list and the Fair Choices list.

Could the ZONE staff please clarify which list we should be following? The block amounts should be standardized between the various lists on the website so that ZONE followers know how much they can eat. If the differences were small, e.g., 1/3 cup versus 1/2 cup, I wouldn't be concerned, but when one list has amounts several times higher than the other list's amounts, this really should be resolved.

meal distribution

I am new to the zone diet and am in the process of making the transition. My current breakfast (at 5am) is not quite a 4 block meal, I lack 2 blocks of protein. But when I get to work me drink a protein shake (8am). This finishes off my 4 block breakfast. Then at 10am I eat a yogurt for a snack and then a 4 block lunch at 12. Will this deviation cause problems in the zone philosophy? What I’m asking is how crucial is it to eat the all the blocks in a group all the time versus spread out?

Adding extra block?

If I usually eat 3 blcks for each meal, is it okay to add another block of p,c if i don't have
the late night snack? I accidently added another one yesterday and I slept
throughout the whole night insted of usually waking up at 3 or 4 in th morning. I
think I wake up at that time in the morning only because I skip the late night
snack. So should I, or not...

Counting macronutrients

I am confused. If I have a slice of bread that has 20 minus 4 (fiber) carbs, this would be about 2 blocks of carbs. But the bread also has 5 g of protein and 1.5 g of fat. Do I deduct the protein and fat from the mayo and turkey that I put on the bread? The fat is particularly confusing to me as it sounds like we ignore the built in fats (eg in the meat) and add the monounsaturated blocks anyway. For example, the sandwich as described above. The bread and turkey and mayo all have fat grams; do I also add monounsaturated fat blocks to equal the protein and carb blocks?

Please help.

Sheridan

a forum about the forum...?? what does that mean?

I guess I am confused...
I am having issues with regard to some forum posts that are disappearing. An entire topic that I posted last week is gone, then today a post by techie has disappeared after I replied to it. Then, when I posted in this forum about the disappearing act, now THAT post is gone, too!!

I honestly don't know what is going on (I joked about it in the previous post and assumed that the gremlins took the posts), but perhaps there is a bigger issue that IT needs to look at? I mean, isn't it strange that so many posts are suddenly disappearing in such a short timeframe?

Is anyone else having difficulty like this? Or have I broken a forum rule? (however that would not explain why techie's post disappeared)

HELP!!

Remember Me login?

Up until yesterday, i had logged in months ago, and selected the "Remember Me" check box.
And it worked.
Yesterday, for no known reason, I had to login, again. No Biggie.
But, then, this morning, I had to login, yet again?
.
Why would the "Remember Me" functionality now not work?
.
This happened on two computers, one with Win XP and the other with Win 7.
Both using Google Chrome.
.
Not a browser functionality, but a setting on the/with your log-in page/web-site?
PLEASE HELP me understand this

Hi everyone, I am new to "The Zone Diet", I am really excited about this and am doing this to get healthy AND to lose around 40 pounds of per lard :) I have been reading and reading and finally yesterday was my first day of my new way of life. Immediatley I ran into problems... For lunch I carefully prepared a broiled salmon piece and cooked in just the right amount of Olive and Oil with my spices, then I had to choose 3 servings of carbs. It was here that I got REAL confused. How on earth can anyone eat 4 cups of lettuce, 3 and 1/2 cups of cooked Spinach, and 2 whole cups of chopped celery. I added all these to my plate (by piling) next to my little piece of fish and 6 olives and thought: oh good lord! Well needless to say I whopped down the protein and fat, then made it through 1/4 of the carbs, before my stomach got a "food baby" look.
Please advice badly needed......
Questions: Isnt it suppose to be 1 palm size protein, and 2 fist size carbs and 1 thumb size fat?
Are the measurements for the carbs (vegs in paticular) accurate?
When first starting on the zone and needing to lose weight, what is best "simplest", meals and snacks, (I am in Nursing School and no extra time for fancy cooking)?

Thank you all in advance for any advice, I am very encouraged and excited about this since reading through all of your success stories. I want this to work so badly, please help?::cry:

Zone Beginner

I started the Zone Diet a little over a week ago, after a few days of a mini-elimination diet. Previously, I ate fairly healthy, but I decided to do the Zone to add structure to my diet/workout plan. I'm training for some upcoming races (a 10k and a 4 mile adventure race in 2 months) and I'll soon be switching to some more intense half-marathon/sprint-triathlon training. I hoped that the Zone would help me take in the proper nutrients while training.

So far, however, I feel like I've been gaining fat. I have been working out and running 3-4 days/week for a few months now, and my workouts aren't light. Even so, I started out with 12 zone blocks (I am about 5'10" and 135lbs), and if I need to adjust my intake down the road, I'll do it. However, I have been gaining a little bit of weight (like 5lbs in a week, which is abnormal for me)...which could be from muscle, I realize, but it doesn't feel/look like muscle gain. I'm not trying to lose weight, I'm trying to tone and maintain.

Prior to starting the Zone, I kept track of caloric intake and kept an eye on nutrient intake. About a week before starting the Zone, I began tracking my calorie, fat, carb, and protein intake. I think my problem is that the Zone diet has me taking in more fat than I typically eat... not based on 12 blocks of 1.5g, but I am taking in more based on the adding up of small amounts of fat in protein and carb blocks. Has anybody else noticed this problem? For example, the zone snack bars I eat before my workouts contain like 4 blocks of fat! In my mind, that can't be good.

Any tips or similar stories would be helpful. I like the structure of the Zone, but with as hard as I work out and try to be healthy, I am not looking to gain fat!

Post-workout meal and fats

Hi. Im new to the Zone and wonder how you people eat/drink after a hard workout. I usually drink about 5dl of chocolate milk (wholemilk) as i need the carbs and proteins immediately after a workout. Do you count that from your daily blocks or does this come in addition? I crossfit and have followed Paleo for a while, so im used to the post-workout "meal" to not count as your daily diet since its strictly for recovery.

The second thing on my mind is how you count your fat blocks. The fat in my diet i usually get from nuts, seeds, oils, avacado etc. and i try to keep it as "clean" as possible by not eating the bad-fat. However i feel that i reach my "quota" of fat (4 blocks) simply from the oil i use in my fryingpan for the meat and veggies. So it leaves me with almost non of the other fat sources, do you add fat in addition to the oils you use for cooking or would that simply be enough for a 4block meal?

Looking forward to hearing from you guys :)

(sorry if my English written is misspelled somewhere, ill work on that)

Best regards
René
