Hello fellow Zoners!

I started my journey on THE ZONE about two weeks ago..

About a month a half ago, I was also diagnosed as being hypothyroid as well..this after 'dieting,' and exercising my booty off..and I was GAINING weight and just feeling so lethargic and run down..after 6 months of that, I went to talk to my DOC to see what could be going on..

I've always had to careful with food and if I didn't consistently keep the exercise going I would always steadily gain weight..never had a problem losing before now..

I am more determined than ever to get this stubborn weight off! I just celebrated my 29th b-day, and my goal is to be able to wear a bikini for the first time EVER for my 30th b-day!

So with the ZONE and the help and support of you people, I don't see why it couldn't happen!

I plan on weighing and measuring myself every two weeks..
I will post my foods daily as well to keep me accountable!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone here!

Hi Betty,

I am also a newbie. Well, sort of anyway - as I knew people who were successful on the Zone when it first was published. Recently, my young niece (16 years old) lost 22 lbs in a very short while zoning it to a tee. She had been pudgy her whole life. I hadn't seen her in months, and my jaw dropped when I laid eyes on this tall slender beauty. I jumped right on the band wagon, and after 6 days, I'm already down 2 lbs. Probably water, but it feels great.

The reason I am responding to you is that I too am hypo-thyroid. I was probably walking around that way for years before knowing about it. I highly recommend reading Thyroid Power: Ten Steps to Total Health by Richard Shames and get on a thyroid replacement program. Many doctors don't read the tests correctly and under prescribe.

I've been lurking around on these forums for a week, and there are many helpful people who are ready and willing to jump in and help. Good luck, and trust that this will work. I've seen it over and over again.

Have a great Zonie week!

Nice to meet you Betty!

Thanks for sharing your info with us. I have hypothyroid too, and have been very successful with the Zone. The short story on me is that 13 years ago I lost 100 pounds during my first couple years in the Zone. Then, through an unusual set of circumstances, Barry Sears offered the help me himself with my Zone concerns and fish oil dose. The addition of fish oil resulted in the immediate lowering of my high blood pressure, and by two weeks later with my doctor's approval (and to his astonishment) I was off the 2 high blood pressure meds I'd been on. Have never needed them since!

You can turn things around for yourself, too! There's plenty of info on this site to get you started, and lots of helpful people here in the forums. Zone books are excellent resources too. I highly recommend reading "The Anti-Inflammation Zone" for the most up to date Zone info. You'll get the best results by incorporating the entire Zone pyramid into your lifestyle.

Keep us updated!

Hi again! Thanks for the replies!
I think I've been hypo for a long while as well, but just mistook the fatigue for being a mommy..I have a 6yr old son and 17 month old little girl..
It wasn't til after I had our daughter and was fighting to lose weight that I suspected something could be wrong!
I've been on meds for just a short time, since AUG 12th, but can already feel my energy coming back..or it could be because I started the ZONE then too..
I'll admit its not all that easy...especially with the three other people living in the house that could eat whatever they want without a care in the world..there are temptations all around me..but we are steadily making the changes for the whole family..everything whole grain and healthy snacks for the kiddos..so at least if I feel an urge it will be somewhat healthy!

Hi Betty,

I'm glad the thyroid hormone and the Zone are helping your energy levels. It's been a long haul for me in regard to adjusting my thyroid hormone dose. One week ago today I experienced yet another in a 4 yr long string of hyper-reactions to a slight thyroid hormone med increase. Now I have to wait it out for a week or so and then try a fraction of the increase on only 1 or two days a week.

That's the way to do the Zone, the way you're changing the whole family's habits. My 3 kids were elementary ages 9 through 18 when I began eating this way. I didn't prepare or buy special foods for anyone. We all ate the same. A tip, watch it with those urges! "Healthy" high glycemic load carbs can stimulate your insulin just like junk food. Fifteen years ago I found myself weighing in the mid 200's from eating "healthy"! You can see my before and after pictures in the photo album in my signature.

Good luck!

Hi Deedub!

Welcome! Another hypothyroid Zoner! Yeah! My endocrinologist told me that if not for my zoning, I'd probably have a big weight control problem (which I actually used to have!).

You're off to a great start! My congrats to your neice.

Keep us updated!

Hey, I'm hypo too! (I always mix them up... hyothyroid is when you TSH is too high, right? or is that hyper?)
No Dr wanted to admit this, because my TSH wasn't that high, but it's in my family and I didn't quite believe the doctors. I visitted doctors repeatedly in Canada and they'd all say 'you're fine!' The problem : pain, in the legs mostly, but all over my body (plus hair loss, weight gain, fatigue and many more symptoms, but the pain was the worst). At this point I was thinking: I'll be in a wheel chain by the time i'm 30 if things don't start to get better soon! The pain was that bad! I visited physiotherapists for years, etc. Than I heard about Dr Arem. I went all the way to Texas to see him! Read his book! He is THE expert on the thyroid gland! So he did a bunch of tests and I've been on the med for 4 months now. I can't say the pain has gone, these things take time, and getting in the zone will help the inflammation (I'm working on that).

Just to say that doctors (especialy with the system we have in Canada) sometimes know nothing!

Hey cassandre!

Yes, you're right. Hypothyroid means you're not producing enough thyroid hormone and, as a result, your TSH level goes up.

There are a lot of docs here in the US that under treat hypothyroid conditions, too. Fortunately I'm not going to one of them! I'm glad you were able to get some help!

Keep us updated!

Thank you Sue, so nice to have you reply to my first tiny post. I've been enjoying reading your posts, and have learned TONS from you already. Using the search box on the website usually sends me to posts you’ve posted.

This first week on the zone has been interesting, and challenging as well. I can't tell sometimes if I am in the Zone, or just hungry. Keeping notes on what I ate, and how I feel after is the only thing that will help me find and remember the right balance.

I tell you, I feel the best after a snack of a glass of low fat milk. My body always says "oh yeah baby, that's good".

Amazon (rather, the UPS dude) delivered the ‘Anti Inflammation Zone’ this morning and I’ve been pouring over it. I feel so much better already on just these few days. The complications are the usual getting the house zoned. My husband isn’t on board yet, but fortunately for me his Dots and Good and Plenty candy bad habits were never a problem for me. I’m still baking bread for him (twice already since zoning) and I’m not tempted. I hope he’ll get on board as he has a problem with spiking insulin during the night.

The thyroid issue is huge. I know there are lots of women out there who are walking zombies with low thyroid and just don’t know it.

I look forward to more reading of your posts, and following Betty and other fellow hypothyroid folks will be interesting.

Thanks again,

I'm happy to hear you're enjoying my posts deedub! It's my pleasure to be able to help others to experience the results I've had with the Zone.

The food diary you're keeping can be an invaluable tool, especially if you continue to be hungry. Listening to your body is very important in the whole picture. It will guide you in the right direction when you use the info wisely.

Glad you got that book. It's a fantastic resource that you can use over and over. I incorporate the anti-inflammatory foods, and insulin lowering techniques into my meals and snacks on a daily basis. I can't wait to read Barry Sears next book!

Switching the whole house to Zone is the way to go. Whether others in the household decide to go along for the ride or not is up to them. I see so many people who approach the Zone as a weight loss quick fix, trying to make their own "diet meals" while continuing to feed the rest of the family in the way they are accustomed to. Once I learned about what those carbs an unbalanced meals do inside a body, no way did I want to serve them to my family. My husband was the last one on board at our house. He ate in the Zone for one or two meals a day (meaning those I cooked) and loved the meals. He had nothing against doing the Zone, but just wasn't interested in thinking about it otherwise, like lunch at work, snacks, etc. The tables turned 5-6 years ago when I had some major surgery. He said he was going to do the Zone for real, "to support" me. He ended up sticking with it, an has to this day. He lost 67 pounds before the end of his first year in the Zone, down to about 14% body fat. Last year, at age 58, he ran his first marathon, in the Zone, of course! BTW his thing is M&M's and peanut butter. Like you and the dots, doesnt interest me, LOL!

Thyroid, I agree it's huge. And it impacts so many things! Mine went undiagnosed for years. If you don't mind me asking, how is your's being treated successfully?

Keep us updated!

Hi Sue, that was a great story about your husband. I hope the same thing happens in this house, (except for the surgery part). I'm amazed at how much your husband lost the first year, like you. And the Marathon - that's something to aspire to.

On the hunger issue, do you think I should bump up, or be slightly more generous with F blocks or C blocks to ward off hunger? Seems I'm hungry more than an hour before lunch time. Without boring you with my exact meals, I can say that I've been true to the blocks with weighing and measuring. I have less hunger between lunch and snack, and no problem at all between snack and dinner, but the morning is tough. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I really only have 12 lbs to lose, but am in it for the long haul for general health and de-inflammation. (Is that a word?) I exercise in the morning, usually a 3 to 5 mile walk with my dog at least 5 times a week. I started out the week getting up extra early and choking down a what seemed the huge zone breakfast, and then walked, but the last two days I’ve had a glass of low fat milk, walked –then had the remaining blocks when I got home. Same hunger pangs.

Regarding thyroid, I seem to have finally settled into a comfortable spot with 120 mg. of Armour thyroid. I have a palpable goiter ( classic Hashimoto’s) and nodules that don't seem to be an issue at this point, after several ultra sound tests and review from my doctor. It took about 6 years to reach the 120 mg. and I never felt better until getting close to that amount. I went over 120 for a while, but started having symptoms of too much, so settled on 120. I’ve been on that dose for at least two years now. I am 55.

Thanks again for being such an inspiring and supportive cyber-friend. I enjoyed your pictures – the food looks textbook perfect.

Welcome Dorothy! You will great helpa and advice from the knowledgeable regulars here. I am still new myself, hypothyroid is one of my problems also. I have been Zoning for around 2 1/2 months and find it a wonderful way to eat with the side effect of weight loss and my joints don't hurt anymore! Thyroid problems as you know can cause a whole host of problems, I do believe eating in the Zone helps quite a bit. Looking forward to getting to know you. I am 55 also, I feel 35. Hopefully the Zone diet will keep me there!

Hi Linda, thanks! Nice of you to say hello. Only 2 1/2 months? Wow. How is it going. Do you really feel 35? you certainly look it in that kayak. I felt old at 40 before I knew about the thyroid, then felt young again, but lately have been slipping from that saying "the new 55 is 35". Hope to get back to that place. The weight seems to be coming off and I think my energy is better, but having only finished the first 7 days, I still can't tell the difference between everything just being different, and how I really feel. I believe this is going to work. I enjoy participating in these forums as well. It is great support.

Keep in touch!

Hi, Im still here! Wow, this is so interesting you guys! I think everyone who has posted so far has thyroid issues..unbelievable!! It's like, who doesn't have a thyroid problem anymore, sheesh!
I've been slacking on posting my foods..sorry..I'll have to write it all down and post after the kiddos go to bed.I used to use fitday to keep track of my foods, but I've gotten lazy with that as well..teehee
My DOC refered me to a nutritionist before I found out about all this thyroid stuff..I took a weeks worth of meals to her, and she couldn't believe how low my carbs were..she insisted that my body NEEDS carbs to function, blah blah blah..she handed me a diabetics food pyramid to follow, and I threw it in the trash when I got home..why would I follow a plan that has hot dog buns as a choice for food? lol..She also said to stop taking fish oil, because of some dumb reason I can't remember because I wasn't listening anymore!
The point of my story is that Im supposed to go back to see her in a couple weeks, and Im not sure I want to..then again, maybe if I tell her Im following the ZONE, I can prove to her that I don't need her bagels and cereal to 'function.'

Hi Betty, cassandre, Deedub and Linda!

It's great to have some support here with the hypothyroid issue! I'm 56. I've been doing the Zone for 13 years and I feel much younger than my age. Most people don't even believe my age when I tell them. Oh, the stories I can tell about that! Many times it will be in a social setting where the topic turns to something 1950's related. Inevitably, someone in the group will usually say to me "this was before your time", or "you're too young to know what we're talking about". Most times as it turns out that the person is my age or a few years younger! Of course I love that every time it happens! :) The other situation has happened on a number of occasions when meeting a new person who's suffering from a chronic condition or has had recent surgery, etc. they don’t know my history, think I'm much younger than they are, and will say something like "Wait until you're my age and have these kinds of things" or "you're lucky you're young and in such good health". Sometimes I just smile, thinking to myself "If you only knew", and other times I share my info with them. A little background for the newbies here who just met me, besides losing 100 pounds, in the last approximately 8 years I've had my share of medical adventures; a craniotomy to remove a benign brain tumor; twice had 1/3 of my left eyelid removed and reconstructed (basal cell skin cancer); early stage breast cancer including mastectomy and about a dozen reconstructive surgeries (it's a long story); early stage melanoma requiring only surgical interventions; kidney reconstruction for a congenital situation I never knew I had until at age 54 I found myself suffering weekly bouts of severe flank pain (took 9 mos many screenings and 2 smaller surgical procedures to finally diagnose; it's a condition which usually presents in the fetus, newborns and children); plus a few things of lesser significance, like my hypothyroid.

Gotta go, my son just arrived and needs to use my laptop. Catch up with you a little later!

Good Morning Sue,

WOW, you have been through it, and you are still out there helping others with this journey. I wish you nothing but the best of health for the rest of your life. Hypo thyroid is nothing.

I wanted to mention that last night after posting my hungry dilemma to you - I found two old threads where you addressed this issue. One I read this morning to Barb that you wrote earlier this month as well. I think the first week of morning hunger is part of the insulin levels settling into the zone. My precious cup of coffee may also be part of the culprit. I don't think I'll give that up, as it is a ritual more than a need, and it is always only one cup. Usually after walking and during breakfast. I'll keep tabs this second week see if the morning hunger goes away.

Meanwhile, my mouth watered so much looking at your picture of zucchini, onions, tomatoes and a turkey burger. I made it for dinner last night and moaned through every bite. Made me very happy. Granted, the turkey burger is comically small, but very satisfying and enough really. I had another one as my breakfast protein this morning. I’ll probably use the rest of the ground turkey to make a little chili for dinner tonight. Thanks for those pictures. They really an inspiration, but as you said in yet another post, the colorful plates make the whole meal a party. That zucchini was a party in my mouth last night. I’m off to the farmers market this morning to gather more goodies for a zoned week.

Have a great labor day weekend to all. Cassandre, Linda, Betty and Sue!

Hi dee,

You wrote "On the hunger issue, do you think I should bump up, or be slightly more generous with F blocks or C blocks to ward off hunger? Seems I'm hungry more than an hour before lunch time. Without boring you with my exact meals, I can say that I've been true to the blocks with weighing and measuring. I have less hunger between lunch and snack, and no problem at all between snack and dinner, but the morning is tough."

I composed and entire post to you last night about this, and other things in that same post, but my crazy flying fingers accidentally deleted it as I was near the end. >:-( LOL! (I have to remember to compose posts in Word so I can get them back when I mess up!)

Since then you mentioned you read some of my old posts that gave you insight into hunger. You probably noticed hunger id related to carbs, but can go in two very opposite directions. Accurately calculating blocks and measuring doesn't necessarily mean you won't have hunger or that you are eating correctly for your needs. It simply means you are probably eating dead on smack in the middle of the Zone range. I don't know if you have any Zone books besides "AIZ" that you got in the mail yesterday. Some Zone books go into more detail on how to fine tune than others. I've been looking in "AIZ" to find the section to direct you to it, but I can't seem to find it in any great detail there. 8-(

No worries. I'll be glad to help you figure it out, but need some info from you. What kind of other symptoms if any do you have with the hunger? Or do you feel great, with good concetration and full of energy, and just have hunger with no other symptoms? Also, what is your LBM? A sample of you daily meals would be of great help.

I think there's more to it than the coffee. In fact the glass of milk, though it really hits the spot with you may be one of the contributing factors.

Thanks so much for sharig your thyroid info with me/us! Classic Hashimoto's here too, with palpable slightly enlarged thyroid. I also have thyroid nodules being tracked on US every 6 to 12 mos and have had a couple needle biopsies on some of them. It's been explained to me that they are not unusual at my age and have no relation to my hypothyroidism. My hypothyroid was undx'ed until 3 1/2 years ago, though once dx'ed and my past tests looked at(tests done by previous docs ) it was apparent that I'd had hypothyroidism since yrs earlier. I began taking 50 mcg levoxyl in Feb 2005, and a month later it was increased to 75 mcg. Had a bad reaction and they've been trying to get me to 75 daily ever since. Long story there, but finally got up to the 75 mcg dose 6 weeks ago. Turns out it's no longer enough, and my dose was increased 1 1/2 wks ago to 75/100 on alternating days. Had another very bad hyper reaction to it last weekend and I'm back at 75 again. A much slower increase in smaller increments will begin again in about 6 days to try to eventually get me to the 75/100 alternating dose.

I'll get there sooner or later! :)

It's nice to hear that you like the meal pix! I'm thinking of changing some of them over the weekend.

Have a great weekend!

Betty, the experience with the nutritionist, good for you! I'm sure she's well meaning, but she's obviously not informed about the Zone. Please don't feel you have to prove these things to other people.

I changed PC docs twice in order to find one I felt comfortable working with, who listens, who respects my choices and is open to new ideas. Don't hesitate to shop around for a different nutritionist if you feel the need.

Keep us updated!

Hi Sue, Thanks so much for the response, and man I hate when you lose text that was probably very much concentrated thought. I appreciate the energy you put into so many threads here. You should be on Dr. Sears payroll!

I'll get to most of the answers later, as I am off for a Sunday bike ride.
I wanted to mention that I looked at your new photo's and they look great. that meal with the seaweed salad was particularly gorgeous. Where did you get the seaweed and was it fresh or dried or? Beautiful meal. Just gorgeous.

Meanwhile, this morning I weigh 139.2 lbs, my LMB is 101.11
Body Fat is 27.78% or 38.89lbs.

I received in the mail "Enter The Zone" (.25 on Amazon, but $3.99 shipping lol) "Zone Food Blocks", "AIZ" and "What to Eat in the Zone".

I'm scattering around in the reading, but in WEZ I see that I need to take notice of the kind of hunger I'm having in the morning. Clear headed, or foggy. Too much protein vs. too much carb. I'all make note of that today. It seems odd that with the same block points late in the day I don't get the same response. Something about after the night-fast?

This morning breakfast was 3/4 cup cottage cheese, 1 cup raspberries and 1/2 cup grapes. It is 1 1/2 hours after eating, and so far so good. Off to bike and report in later.

My headache's may be attributed to the fact that my glasses broke last week, and I’m using old prescription glasses while waiting for new ones, and readers.

Thanks for everything and have a wonderful Sunday

Dr. Barry Sears, PhD.Dr. Barry Sears is a leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal response. A former research scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Sears has dedicated his research efforts over the past 30 years to the study of lipids. He holds 13 U.S. Patents in the areas of intravenous drug delivery systems and hormonal regulation for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

A turning point in his research occurred in 1982. That year, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded for discoveries of the role that specialized hormones, known as eicosanoids, play in the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, and cancer. Since eicosanoids are only generated from dietary fat, Dr. Sears reasoned that one could apply intravenous drug delivery principles to nutrition in order to control these exceptionally powerful hormonal responses with laser-like precision. In essence, his approach treats food as if it were a drug.

This area of his research led to various patents in the area of hormonal control by essentially using food as an oral drug delivery system to modulate eicosanoids especially for cardiovascular, diabetic, and neurological patients.

The impact of Dr. Sears’ revolutionary work in the dietary control of hormonal response began with the publication of his landmark book, The Zone. Since its publication in June 1995, The Zone has sold more than 2,000,000 hardcover copies, and became a #1 best seller on the New York Times book list. In addition, The Zone has been translated into 22 languages indicating a worldwide response to Dr. Sears’ research. His second book, Mastering the Zone, published in 1997, also became a New York Times bestseller with hardcover sales in excess of 500,000 copies to date. His third book, Zone Perfect Meals in Minutes, published in 1997, quickly became one of the best-selling cookbooks of 1997 and an another New York Times bestseller. The Anti-Aging Zone was published in 1999 and provides the molecular insights into how the Zone Diet can reverse the aging process. The Omega Rx Zone, published in 2002, explores the molecular foundation of chronic disease and how high-dose fish oil can dramatically reverse it. His latest book The Anti-Inflammation Zone discusses how to combat silent inflammation in order to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, and many other inflammatory conditions—and how to reverse these conditions if they are already present. To date more than 5 million hardcover copies of his Zone books have been sold in the United States.

His research has elevated food from more than simply a source of calories to being recognized as an exceptionally powerful drug. Because of his revolutionary research, Dr. Sears has been a frequent guest on many national programs such as 20/20, Today, Good Morning America, CBS Morning News, CNN, and MSNBC.

Dr. Sears continues his ongoing research as President of Zone Labs, a biotechnology company in Danvers, MA as well as the President of the non-profit Inflammation Research Foundation in Marblehead, MA. In addition to continuing research on the hormonal effects of food, Dr. Sears has expanded his research in developing innovative dietary approaches to treating cancer and neurological conditions, as well as his on-going work in treating cardiovascular diease and type 2 diabetes.

I have been taking the Fish Oil for over 3 years now. I am 44 playing hockey and working out. The Fish oil helps with the pain that I get from playing hockey. It greatly enhances my performance on the ice and while working out. I have noticed a big difference in my energy, attentiveness and memory. If I miss a day for whatever reason, I notice a huge difference and it feels like something is missing. Anyway that is my short little story and it comes from the heart.

– Carter B.

I am a nutritionist and Ph.D. doctor of health and nutrition. For Dr. Sears to figure out balancing fat, carbs and protein, is really beyond brilliant. It is a milestone in diet history. I go over people's diet/emotional journals. Mostly all the time, we discover that the fatigue, irritability, unstable emotions were due to the imbalance in their diet. Using the Zone to balance them out, helps control weight, roller coaster emotions and gives them energy. Dr. Sears is so right when he says food is medicine. He has figured out the most powerful drug combination going, called The Zone.
Best and healthy wishes,

I have a very exhausting job as a flight attendant. I read the "Omega Rx Zone" about 4 years ago and started taking the fish oil. I am 47 and have been flying for 22 years. I am very active, I run and lift weights. But combining lack of regular sleep, a physically demanding job, and irregular eating patterns this job takes a toll on the body. Since taking the fish oil, I have noticed that I do not get exhausted. I get tired, but not exhausted. I stopped taking it for a couple of months and then started taking another company's fish oil. I started getting exhausted again. I came back to Zone Labs and will continue with the fish oil for the rest of my life. I believe in the product and it makes a huge difference in my life. It makes a difference with my running as well. I also bring the bars and shakes with me on the road. It is almost impossible to eat the way I should at work. I haven't found the right secret. At least I have my Zone fish oil, bars, and shakes.

I have been in the Zone, for about 1 month now. I wanted to share with you how wonderful I think this program is. I have been a personal trainer for almost 10 years and actively compete in numerous athletic activities. The Zone program has helped me to achieve a better awareness of my nutritional needs and the results I have seen are amazing! I have lost nearly 13 lbs since I have been in the Zone. I feel more mentally alert, more focused at work, have greater intensity during my training, have made significant strength gains, and just feel better over all. With that said, I would like to thank you for helping me in my quest for "super-health"!
Thank you!

I read 'The Zone' and as exactly as I could followed the advice for diet. I noted weight loss progress. Over six months, I lost 33 pounds. One year has passed since then. I have maintained the new weight, guided always by Zone concepts. The Zone is powerful - I have found it fantastic and I am very grateful to Dr Sears.

Before I stumbled across the Zone I was weighing close to two hundred pounds and I was depressed. I used to be a gymnast as a young man. I would think, "look at me now," when I looked in a mirror. The day I found 'The Zone' book, I was intrigued and as I read it the science made sense and so, I began to follow the "treatment". I began to lose weight and I was feeling way more energetic. I am forty two years old, I am very active and my weight is down to 162 lbs, 38 pounds lost on the Zone. I cycle, walk, jog, swim and I can now perform some of the more simple gymnastic skills I did twenty years ago...I literally feel like I have turned back the clock.
Thank you!

I have been on the Zone diet for 7 years. I did not go on the diet to lose weight necessarily; but fairly quickly I lost 25 pounds, going from 190 to 165; from a 36-inch waist to a 32-inch waist. I primarily did the Zone to live healthier. My health is excellent now. I just turned 62 years old. My Zone is my eating lifestyle now; I seldom stray; and I do not miss anything. It is The Good Life.

My wife's doctor told her to read "Enter the Zone" and to do the diet, so I told her I would do it with her. After only one week on the plan we went on a strenuous hike (the first of the year), and when we stopped at our favorite coffee shop on the way home I was able to get out of the car and stand upright and walk into the place without pain or stiffness. The Zone had eliminated all the inflammation that had always forced me to stumble all humped over into the coffee shop any time we skied or hiked all day.
Thank you, Doctor Sears.

I used to have a lot of knee pain when I walked or ran. I have been taking Omega Rx for almost a year now, and rarely have any pain. I believe it is the anti-inflammation action of the oil. I feel smarter as well. Thanks for developing such a superior oil!

Prior to following the Zone Diet, my body fat was around 15% and my weight around 153 pounds. No matter what I did, my weight and body fat did not change much. I regularly cycled 20-30 hours per week logging well over 400 miles. That had little impact on body fat or weight. Diet also seemed to have little impact on body fat or weight. Within a couple of months of following the zone diet, my weight dropped rather quickly to 142 pounds and body fat to about 8%. I still regularly cycle up to 20 hours per week (during the summer). I have also started strength training. I eat about 16 blocks per day. I take 3.6 grams of fish oil per day, along with Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoic Acid, CoQ10, and B & C vitamins. I also take GLA, which in my opinion, has significantly reduced fatigue and improved recovery times after exercise.

All polyphenols have antioxidant properties than can be measured by their Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC), but not all polyphenols have anti-inflammatory properties. The polyphenols in Dr. Sears’ Zone Polyphenol Plus have been carefully chosen to have both.

Polyphenols are the phytochemicals that not only give fruits and vegetables their color, but also help regulate inflammation. In addition, polyphenols also activate the key enzyme (AMP kinase) that helps restore cellular ATP levels. Polyphenols also help regulate the activation of inducible inflammatory proteins (such as COX-2 and inflammatory cytokines).

There are more than 4,000 known polyphenols, and the richest sources are fruits and vegetables. In general, the more color a fruit or vegetable has, the richer the polyphenol content.

Zone Labs products show no detectable lead or mercury when tested down to 10ppb, which is 10 times below the Norwegian Medicinal Standard and European Pharmacopoeia Standard limits.

Zone Labs products are three times fresher than the minimum allowed by the Norwegian Medicinal Standard and European Pharmacopoeia Standards (based on average peroxide values).

Zone Labs starts with only wild, small fish from pristine Chilean waters and ends with proprietary validation and testing processes to achieve an IFOS certified 5 star rating.

8-Step Manufacturing Process - Quality Assured

  1. Extraction of fish oil
  2. Winterization – remove limited amounts of saturated fats
  3. Absorption – remove heavy metals
  4. Preliminary Molecular Distillation – refining “touch up” to reduce contaminants
  5. Oil conversion to ethyl esters
  6. Ethyl ester thermal fractionation – remove additional saturated fats
  7. True Molecular Distillation – final refining to remove pcb’s and long-chain monoenes
  8. Rigid Processes – proprietary validation, inspection and encapsulation methods. Independent lab verification of IFOS requirements and certified 5 star rating

Clean Sources

No farmed fish. No large fish. Pristine waters.

Zone Labs starts with wild sardines & anchovies fished from cold, pristine waters off of South America where there are less environmental impurities.

A recommended serving of Zone Labs Ultra-Refined Concentrates delivers 8 times more omega-3’s than a typical retail fish oil supplement.

Most fish oil supplements have 30% or less of the healthy omega-3s EPA and DHA, with the remaining 70% of the capsule containing unbeneficial, lesser refined fatty acids that contribute to their bad taste and gastric side effects.

Getting a clinically valid dose of omega-3’s is easy with Zone Labs’ Ultra-Refined Omega-3 Concentrates.

Typical Retail Dose = 300mg omega-3

Standard Zone Dose = 2400mg omega-3
