Wow--I am never on the computer this often, but now I have all this energy!
Stacey--The only Con: You better be ready to be a loser, because the weight MELTS off! I think it's simple and easy, but the majority of poeple "outside-the-box" think it's hard and strict. My cousin is getting ready to start soon....My words of advice to her: It's easy! No, you can't eat everything, but, do you really, REALLY want that cookie? I mean, your only hurting yourself, plus, the motivation is the mandatory weekly weigh-ins. Anyone who get's on that scale and hears, "you lost...", is going to be motivated for the upcoming week.
Cynthia, You sound like me! I used to get sinusitis sooo bad, I had to have surgery! I COMPLETLEY understand your pain! I would definitley stop the pills if I was sick and taking antiobiotics! 13 lbs is awesome for 3 wks! We seem pretty close in a week by week comparison. The bad news, no, I still haven't started exercising! I know, I know...I don't need a lecture! But, I have recently noticed an EXTREME spike in my energy levels. I can't stop! Sunday, I rearranged the entire house! Monday, I went grocery shopping and prepared 4 days worth of meals--completely cooked. Plus, did laundry and dishes! If you knew me before, I came home at 5 and fell on the couch in complete exhaustion! So, this is EXTREME! I am planning on starting to swim on Mondays, bike Wednesdays and walk on like Thursday/Friday. This should be enough variety to keep my moving--AND spike the scale with more losses! Plus, I have started to inquire about a few gyms locally to try and tone up as much as possible.
Have a great week guys! Good luck!

Hey Natalie, Well today is my birthday-46 y/o! I feel great that I have embarked on this journey a month ago and am now seeing the results. I weighed in on Tuesday and the count is 16.1 lbs. Not bad for 4 weeks and with no exercise. I went to the gym last Saturday and did about a half hour of basic walking and some eliptical. The next day I had hip pain and finally realize there is something wrong (and has been for a while) and so tomorrow I go to the doctor for some x-rays to see what's up. I am really motivated to exercise and obviously there is an inflamation there which is causing the pain. Time will tell, but overall, I just want to get back into something consistent which will help take the weight off and tone up at the same time. How's it going for you? Have you started the exercise plan you talked about? I am sure you feel so good about the results you are seeing-I know how I feel-I am really starting to see it in my clothes-down one size already in the pants which is great. Starting to get comments from people like-"are you losing weight?" and the like. So all in all it is VERY encouraging. Connect when you can-hope all is well! Cynthia |

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope it was a great day! Congrat's on the 16 lbs--that's awesome! I'm at 31.1 lbs weighing in at 176, so I am very pleased with this program and it's so worth it!
Some good news...I went last weekend and toured the new gym in town. Wednesday I went on a free day pass and did 1 mile on the eliptical and about 10 minutes on the treadmill....then.....I went into a dance class!! I HATE dancing, but I wanted to get a feel for the whole gym in the one free day. The class was an HOUR and, literally, the HARDEST thing I have ever done! It was blood sweating, non-stop, moving! I felt so GOOD! I am going to be going this weekend or next week to actually sign-up.
And, I don't think I will ever get tired of hearing, "Are you losing weight?". I LOVE TO HEAR THAT! SOOOOO motivational!
Have a good week! |

I also live in Englewood. The east side by Gulfstream and Sunnybrook... I am going to the clark road location and have been since February. The big losses tapered off to 2 lbs a week and now it is maybe 1 lb a week or 1.5 per week. But I am below my goal that I set for the program. I was a size 16 and now I wear a 3. I only thought I would see a size 9 but I am much more fit than I have ever been. So now I am on the zone living and loving it. Plus I am lifting pretty heavy weights now so I am sure my weight will go up since I am building muscle now. In addition I started running in order to tightenup up the excess skin/flab and it is working. I read the information regarding cross fit and would love to get started with that. Very strenuous workout. Wonder if I can do it on my own though. I am a YMCA member and I frequent it everyday, but they do not have cross fit. This is a much easier way to live, in the zone, than the way I was living in the beginning of the year. No More cravings for the daily Dairy Queen large cone! Best of everything Tweeting Sue |

Hello again! Hope everyone weathered Fay alright! We haven't even had a drop of rain yet, and, we got teased thinking we'd have a day off work that never happened!
I weighed in Monday to a shocking 3.6lb lost this week. The weight loss has slowed a bit, like Sue said above, so it was a surprise to hear 3.6 for one week. So, it's been 11 weeks and I have lost 39.9 lbs. I am so pleased with the progress.
Now, for the weird advice--Is there such a thing as a shopping therapists, because I am out of control!! Every weekend and spare moment I can find, I am trying on new cloths. All clearance/sale items, but I can't stop! I started at a snug size 18 and bought my first SIZE 10!! Most items I am a comfortable size 11/12.... I'm so close to my goal, I can see the new wardrobe and negative balance in my savings! My goal is a size 8 -- which should be 150lbs.
Have a good week everyone!

Hi All, I am actually doing MediZone in Orlando with Dr Bragg. I had my first weigh in on Monday and although my home scale (yes i weighed at home) said I was down about 6.5 it said 4.8 at the dr. Still, with the understanding that i've always been a slow loser... I am okay with that- Just hope my weekly is around 2 lbs or so. I started at 213, so now I am 208. I would like to get to 130/120. I have a friend who lose 90 lbs in 10 months, and a friend who lost 25 in about 2. My mom is a weight watchers leader, I come from an athletic family... I know all about health but I've never been able to get my weight off. After moving to Chicago for two years, and coming back I realized how heavy I really am and I look the leap. I am having a bit of trouble eating all the food, I feel like I'm never hungry. Also, yesterday and today I just feel "heavy" I got on the scale and it was up a bit... weird. water weight, that time of the month, anything... i know. just saying. I am starting back in the gym tomorrow, so anyone working out with a good routine suggestion? I APPRECIATE ANY COMMENTS :) |

Hi all! So many new comments! Lori, I too have had major issues consuming the daily amount of food. I had to set reminders on my work email just to remind me to eat! Kind of weird, but the doctor said my lightheadness, was because I basically wasn't eating enough. I make sure to eat breakfast every morning, if possible. I am not really a big breakfast person, but the doctor told me I needed to start. Once I get past the breakfast, I eat VERY small amounts for lunch and a semi-small dinner.
You just have to keep your metabolism moving and system digesting. DON'T NOT EAT~ I actually gained weight when I ate less, and think since I started increasing my food intake 2 weeks ago, that's why I had the drastic weight drop this week.
No suggestions on the gym--I'm a bad influence in that department. This last weigh-in was 11 weeks, and I have only worked out about 4-5 times, total!
Good luck and don't get discouraged!!!! Just remember it will all pay off!!

| I'm in the Brandon area. Would any of you all in the Sarasota/Tampa area be interested in doing a zone cooking club? We could take turns hosting a zone-friendly meal. Just a thought! |

| Hello everyone --- I'm in the Tampa area -- been doing the Zone on and off for years. I would like to find a nutritionist who knows the Zone well. I want to tweek my food plan to improve it as needed. The best thing about the Zone is the stable blood sugars and no cravings. Like Dr Sears says -- "food is a drug". In keeping with that I don't want to go to one of these "diet docs" if they are so pro appetite suppressants. Whatever you call them it's still speed. (once a nurse always a nurse) While I'd like to wake up a size 10 .... So what do you think? Anyone know where I can find a Zone coach/nutritionist? Love the idea of a Zone club. Sharing meals -tricks- shopping finds - recipes etc is a great way to stay zoned. Congrats on your giving away the weight --- Lin in LOL |

Welcome Linda! I've been doing the Zone for a lot of years, too.
I'm not sure where to find a Zone nutritionist, but in the meantime, there are lots of knowledgeable people here who can help you.
And while you're at it, switch that dream to waking up and being a size 6 or 8! That is more like where you'll be once you're at ideal body fat%. :)

| Thanks Sue --and C cat- I've been on the site a lot -- got some new tricks -- looking up recipes. I'm a 4 block -- one of my breakfast favorites= steel cut oatmeal 1/4 c (C=26 P=4 F=2) Fat free cottage cheese (C=5 P15 F=0) Soymilk 1/2 c(C=3.5 P=3.5 F=2) Tot=C=34.5 P= 22.5 and F=4. Am I accurate? iI know soy can vary with the brand so I'm careful. Lunch = 2c green greens salad with 6oz talapia and 1cup blueberries. Tonite= Great Zone soup with 4oz turkey 1/5c brn rice. Am snack= 1 cheese stick (C=0 P=8 F=2.5)and 1 oz turkey (C=0 p=5.5 F=0.5) an apple. pm snack 8oz soy milk and 1c strawberries. I see from reviewing that things have changed -- pineapple and citrus are not as geat (no surpise) --- Which is his latest book o is it best to stay online in the site fo the most updated. Thank you Thank you |

Hi Linda!
Ok, let's see, your breakfast. You added accurately, but it's not a Zone balanced 4 block meal. It's missing protein and fat. One completely balance Zone block contains 7 g P, 9 g insulin stimulating C (insulin stimulating C = total C minus total fiber) and 3 g fat. A balance 4 block meal contains 28 g P, 36 g C and 12 g F. Dr Sears advises not to count the protein in plant foods with the exception of soy because some of it is bound in insoluble fiber and is never absorbed by the human digestive tract (comes out as it went in!). Gluten "meat" (aka seitan) would be another exception. Therefore you wouldn't count the P in the oats. That puts your P amount at 19 g, or almost 3 blocks. The C is almost 4 blocks, though I don't know if you subtracted the fiber. If not, then the C is a little low. Typically you wouldn't count the C in the cottage cheese, but I notice you are counting every grams of everything. That's fine, as long as you remember to subtract the fiber (and also not count the P in plant foods). The fat amount is far too low. Dr. Sears described the fat in the meal as a "control rod". It helps slow down the rate of entry of the C into your blood stream, ultimately making it possible to maintain the lower insulin levels of the Zone. Without the minimum necessary fat you won't be able to maintain your insulin in the Zone range. You need at least 8 more fat grams in the meal.
On to lunch. It's short on carb and is also missing fat.
"Am snack", that's approximately a 3P, 4C snack. Assuming it's the same brand of soymilk as in your breakfast, you're missing a block or two of fat. If you meant that to be a PM snack, it contains too many blocks for a bedtime snack.
Pineapple and melons are now unfavorable carb. Citrus is favorable, though some people find they need to treat citrus as unfavorable in order to stay in the Zone.
The most recently released book, an excellent resource, is "The Anti-Inflammation Zone". I highly recommend it!
Keep us updated!

You're welcome Linda!
You've got it right. Yes to all those qns you just asked. Give it a a few days for your body to acclimate to the changes, and by the end of 1 week you should be noticing some differences. You can split the snacks up into 4 1 block snacks too, if you prefer. I eat 13 blocks a day and eat 4 1 block snacks, using 2 of them to support my workouts. |

So I started @ Medizone on Clark two days ago. My body definitely let me know it was time for fruits and veggies today, almost immediately after I peed on the stick and it turned colors. I started sweating all over (from my hips even, so weird!) and then I got short of breath, felt like I had a migraine and very sick to my stomach. I realize that I'm only allowed 2 fruits right now, but I downed four apples to right whatever had gone so terribly wrong with my blood sugar. I am hypoglycemic, which I told the doctor, but nobody told me this could happen. I have to say, I guess I didn't do my research well enough because this diet (at least at first) is so much like Atkins which I believe is an unhealthy diet. Of course, it doesn't allow for the fatty foods like Atkins does, but I guess I am trying to wrap my mind around the lack of carbs. I don't love protein to begin with, so after two days of lean sliced deli meat I have sworn it off for good. Just the smell of it now makes me gag. Your posts are so helpful, because even though I paid the crazy amount of money and got some info from the office, I feel like I am a little too out on my own. Then again, I didn't do Weight Watchers because I didn't want the big pow-wow every week over calories. Any advice through this beginning stage? Its SOOOOO rough. Far more than I thought it'd be. But I am sticking to it, if for nothing else than the expensive first visit! |

So I only lost 4 in my first week (and -.2% body fat which I was really excited about.) I feel like the only person in the world to lose that few in the first week. I can say that my body has been acting very differently. As I said, on the second day I got a big low-sugar spell (I am hypoglycemic) then everything was ok. But on the fifth day, I woke up with really bad kidney pains and soooo lethargic, so I drink a ton of water and had a few grape nuts (gasp) but could that really be the big culprit? . I swear I am not a complainer, I am just asking for anyone who has any similar circumstances. Its crazy to go from eating whatever I wanted to eating SOOOOO well and not having larger results. The Dr. also said I need to eat more, because my food intake was really low and maybe that was why I was so lethargic. Thanks for any and all advice. |

Dr. Barry Sears is a leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal response. A former research scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Sears has dedicated his research efforts over the past 30 years to the study of lipids. He holds 13 U.S. Patents in the areas of intravenous drug delivery systems and hormonal regulation for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
A turning point in his research occurred in 1982. That year, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded for discoveries of the role that specialized hormones, known as eicosanoids, play in the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, and cancer. Since eicosanoids are only generated from dietary fat, Dr. Sears reasoned that one could apply intravenous drug delivery principles to nutrition in order to control these exceptionally powerful hormonal responses with laser-like precision. In essence, his approach treats food as if it were a drug.
This area of his research led to various patents in the area of hormonal control by essentially using food as an oral drug delivery system to modulate eicosanoids especially for cardiovascular, diabetic, and neurological patients.
The impact of Dr. Sears’ revolutionary work in the dietary control of hormonal response began with the publication of his landmark book, The Zone. Since its publication in June 1995, The Zone has sold more than 2,000,000 hardcover copies, and became a #1 best seller on the New York Times book list. In addition, The Zone has been translated into 22 languages indicating a worldwide response to Dr. Sears’ research. His second book, Mastering the Zone, published in 1997, also became a New York Times bestseller with hardcover sales in excess of 500,000 copies to date. His third book, Zone Perfect Meals in Minutes, published in 1997, quickly became one of the best-selling cookbooks of 1997 and an another New York Times bestseller. The Anti-Aging Zone was published in 1999 and provides the molecular insights into how the Zone Diet can reverse the aging process. The Omega Rx Zone, published in 2002, explores the molecular foundation of chronic disease and how high-dose fish oil can dramatically reverse it. His latest book The Anti-Inflammation Zone discusses how to combat silent inflammation in order to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, and many other inflammatory conditions—and how to reverse these conditions if they are already present. To date more than 5 million hardcover copies of his Zone books have been sold in the United States.
His research has elevated food from more than simply a source of calories to being recognized as an exceptionally powerful drug. Because of his revolutionary research, Dr. Sears has been a frequent guest on many national programs such as 20/20, Today, Good Morning America, CBS Morning News, CNN, and MSNBC.
Dr. Sears continues his ongoing research as President of Zone Labs, a biotechnology company in Danvers, MA as well as the President of the non-profit Inflammation Research Foundation in Marblehead, MA. In addition to continuing research on the hormonal effects of food, Dr. Sears has expanded his research in developing innovative dietary approaches to treating cancer and neurological conditions, as well as his on-going work in treating cardiovascular diease and type 2 diabetes.

I have been taking the Fish Oil for over 3 years now. I am 44 playing hockey and working out. The Fish oil helps with the pain that I get from playing hockey. It greatly enhances my performance on the ice and while working out. I have noticed a big difference in my energy, attentiveness and memory. If I miss a day for whatever reason, I notice a huge difference and it feels like something is missing. Anyway that is my short little story and it comes from the heart.
– Carter B.
I am a nutritionist and Ph.D. doctor of health and nutrition. For Dr. Sears to figure out balancing fat, carbs and protein, is really beyond brilliant. It is a milestone in diet history. I go over people's diet/emotional journals. Mostly all the time, we discover that the fatigue, irritability, unstable emotions were due to the imbalance in their diet. Using the Zone to balance them out, helps control weight, roller coaster emotions and gives them energy. Dr. Sears is so right when he says food is medicine. He has figured out the most powerful drug combination going, called The Zone.
Best and healthy wishes,
– Elaine W., Ph.D., N.C., M.A.
I have a very exhausting job as a flight attendant. I read the "Omega Rx Zone" about 4 years ago and started taking the fish oil. I am 47 and have been flying for 22 years. I am very active, I run and lift weights. But combining lack of regular sleep, a physically demanding job, and irregular eating patterns this job takes a toll on the body. Since taking the fish oil, I have noticed that I do not get exhausted. I get tired, but not exhausted. I stopped taking it for a couple of months and then started taking another company's fish oil. I started getting exhausted again. I came back to Zone Labs and will continue with the fish oil for the rest of my life. I believe in the product and it makes a huge difference in my life. It makes a difference with my running as well. I also bring the bars and shakes with me on the road. It is almost impossible to eat the way I should at work. I haven't found the right secret. At least I have my Zone fish oil, bars, and shakes.
– Kathryn S.
I have been in the Zone, for about 1 month now. I wanted to share with you how wonderful I think this program is. I have been a personal trainer for almost 10 years and actively compete in numerous athletic activities. The Zone program has helped me to achieve a better awareness of my nutritional needs and the results I have seen are amazing! I have lost nearly 13 lbs since I have been in the Zone. I feel more mentally alert, more focused at work, have greater intensity during my training, have made significant strength gains, and just feel better over all. With that said, I would like to thank you for helping me in my quest for "super-health"!
Thank you!
– Rob Y.
I read 'The Zone' and as exactly as I could followed the advice for diet. I noted weight loss progress. Over six months, I lost 33 pounds. One year has passed since then. I have maintained the new weight, guided always by Zone concepts. The Zone is powerful - I have found it fantastic and I am very grateful to Dr Sears.
– Lyn S.
Before I stumbled across the Zone I was weighing close to two hundred pounds and I was depressed. I used to be a gymnast as a young man. I would think, "look at me now," when I looked in a mirror. The day I found 'The Zone' book, I was intrigued and as I read it the science made sense and so, I began to follow the "treatment". I began to lose weight and I was feeling way more energetic. I am forty two years old, I am very active and my weight is down to 162 lbs, 38 pounds lost on the Zone. I cycle, walk, jog, swim and I can now perform some of the more simple gymnastic skills I did twenty years ago...I literally feel like I have turned back the clock.
Thank you!
– Jack J.
I have been on the Zone diet for 7 years. I did not go on the diet to lose weight necessarily; but fairly quickly I lost 25 pounds, going from 190 to 165; from a 36-inch waist to a 32-inch waist. I primarily did the Zone to live healthier. My health is excellent now. I just turned 62 years old. My Zone is my eating lifestyle now; I seldom stray; and I do not miss anything. It is The Good Life.
– Curtis Y.
My wife's doctor told her to read "Enter the Zone" and to do the diet, so I told her I would do it with her. After only one week on the plan we went on a strenuous hike (the first of the year), and when we stopped at our favorite coffee shop on the way home I was able to get out of the car and stand upright and walk into the place without pain or stiffness. The Zone had eliminated all the inflammation that had always forced me to stumble all humped over into the coffee shop any time we skied or hiked all day.
Thank you, Doctor Sears.
– Larry C.
I used to have a lot of knee pain when I walked or ran. I have been taking Omega Rx for almost a year now, and rarely have any pain. I believe it is the anti-inflammation action of the oil. I feel smarter as well. Thanks for developing such a superior oil!
– Joe W.
Prior to following the Zone Diet, my body fat was around 15% and my weight around 153 pounds. No matter what I did, my weight and body fat did not change much. I regularly cycled 20-30 hours per week logging well over 400 miles. That had little impact on body fat or weight. Diet also seemed to have little impact on body fat or weight. Within a couple of months of following the zone diet, my weight dropped rather quickly to 142 pounds and body fat to about 8%. I still regularly cycle up to 20 hours per week (during the summer). I have also started strength training. I eat about 16 blocks per day. I take 3.6 grams of fish oil per day, along with Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoic Acid, CoQ10, and B & C vitamins. I also take GLA, which in my opinion, has significantly reduced fatigue and improved recovery times after exercise.
– Jeremy S.

All polyphenols have antioxidant properties than can be measured by their Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC), but not all polyphenols have anti-inflammatory properties. The polyphenols in Dr. Sears’ Zone Polyphenol Plus have been carefully chosen to have both.
Polyphenols are the phytochemicals that not only give fruits and vegetables their color, but also help regulate inflammation. In addition, polyphenols also activate the key enzyme (AMP kinase) that helps restore cellular ATP levels. Polyphenols also help regulate the activation of inducible inflammatory proteins (such as COX-2 and inflammatory cytokines).
There are more than 4,000 known polyphenols, and the richest sources are fruits and vegetables. In general, the more color a fruit or vegetable has, the richer the polyphenol content.

Zone Labs starts with only wild, small fish from pristine Chilean waters and ends with proprietary validation and testing processes to achieve an IFOS certified 5 star rating.
8-Step Manufacturing Process - Quality Assured
Testing to specification all raw materials, bulk products, packaging material and finished products – always using stringent internal standards and in-process testing.
- Extraction of fish oil
- Winterization – remove limited amounts of saturated fats
- Absorption – remove heavy metals
- Preliminary Molecular Distillation – refining “touch up” to reduce contaminants
- Oil conversion to ethyl esters
- Ethyl ester thermal fractionation – remove additional saturated fats
- True Molecular Distillation – final refining to remove pcb’s and long-chain monoenes
- Rigid Processes – proprietary validation, inspection and encapsulation methods. Independent lab verification of IFOS requirements and certified 5 star rating
No farmed fish. No large fish. Pristine waters.
Zone Labs starts with wild sardines & anchovies fished from cold, pristine waters off of South America where there are less environmental impurities.
A recommended serving of Zone Labs Ultra-Refined Concentrates delivers 8 times more omega-3’s than a typical retail fish oil supplement.
Most fish oil supplements have 30% or less of the healthy omega-3s EPA and DHA, with the remaining 70% of the capsule containing unbeneficial, lesser refined fatty acids that contribute to their bad taste and gastric side effects.
Getting a clinically valid dose of omega-3’s is easy with Zone Labs’ Ultra-Refined Omega-3 Concentrates.
Typical Retail Dose = 300mg omega-3
Standard Zone Dose = 2400mg omega-3
A serving of canned tuna has 12 times less omega-3’s than
