Thanks for the restaurant tip Jana!

Applesauce and pp, we eat that sometimes too. It's a good way to get some easy Zone meals in when you're not feeling well. During my many chest surgery recoveries I was unable to lift much of anything, even too much to pick up or move a dinner plate, or open the refrigerator door, for the first couple of weeks. Applesauce and pp with some fat was an easy meal or snack for me to be able to make on my own during the day, when everyone who could help was at school or work. :-)

LOL, just wanted to post and find out what happens on my 5000th post...
(WOW, I am an expert now!)

Sharyn, hope you feel better, sounds like you are doing well despite not feeling good. It is hard to have the energy to prepare decent meals when you are under the weather. Way to go!

Good morning all!
I went to my local urgent care and found out I have bronchitis, so I am taking a Z-pack, along with some codeine cough syrup for nighttime as well as using my albuterol inhaler. I should be feeling much better by tomorrow!

The only down side is that the albuterol makes me shaky and edgy....hopefully I won't have to take too many doses of that.

I was running VERY late this morning, so didn't have time to eat before dropping off my daughter at pre-school. On my way to the Dr. I grabbed a green tea and a ham, egg and cheese sandwich from Starbucks. I only ate the bottom slice of bread. Not sure how to count that...so moving on.

I found a store here in Naples (Sun Splash Market) that sells some of the Cedar Lane products. I bought a few to try out. I also bought some sample packs of Spiru-tein protein powder. It's a mix of soy, pea and rice protein. I read in the Week in The Zone book that soy protein is recommended, but due to its taste you may have to find a mix. There was pure soy protein powder...but no sample sizes. I didn't want to buy a huge canister just to find out I wouldn't eat it. Anyone have a favorite?

I am going to eat my lunch (grilled chicken with broccoli and a salad) and take a nap before I have to retrieve my munchkin.

Have a great day!

Sorry about your bronchitis! Hopefully it will start to get better real soon, now that you are on antibiotics and the inhaler.

I had bronchitis last year in the fall, and also the previous spring. I usually don't get sick, so getting bronchitis twice without ever having it before was a surprise to me.

I don't care for soy protein powder (I generally don't use any soy products, I only use soynuts or edamame). My favorite protein powder is a 100% whey powder, it has very few ingredients in it. Company name is Biochem.

Just in case you are ever in Canada Sue!! ;-)

I'm quite enjoying the applesauce with PP and a nut butter for snack...don't know why I never thought of it before...I had to put my 'thinking cap' on for soft meal and snack ideas and came up with that combo...now I've found something that works REALLY well for me at bedtime!! I sleep like a baby after eating it, as you may recall this has been an ongoing issue for me because I find I either wake up hungry or can't fall asleep because I'm too full. I think I'll be using that snack a lot at bedtime even after my mouth is all better.

Have to admit I'm really missing salads though...maybe in another day or two :-)

Sharyn....hope the meds make you feel better soon! I agree with CC, you are doing great with your meals for not feeling well!

Feel better soon Sharyn.

Zone protein powder is the top favorite at our house. We've tried many over the years, and it's the best. It mixes well into other foods, tastes very good and doesn't add a bad texture like many others do.

Hi, guys....
Sharyn, I like a powdered egg white protein powder by Bioplex, called Simply Whites. No taste, but kinda fluffs things up a bit.
CC, congratulations! You are an Expert! Yay!
Jana, speedy recovery....oh, and Sharyn too.
I haven't posted for days...but I lurk. I've been researching paleo sites in an effort to get some of my favorite crutch foods out of my diet...like toast and soymilk. Gone! I now am happy with scrambled eggs with a bit of manchego cheese and maybe some salsa! Yay! And I now can face smoothie that is made with just juice, fruit, avocado, and protein. Yay! This was a stumbling block for me for the longest time. I enjoy the paleo philosphy although it differs greatly depending on who you read. There are some good recipes to be had. Cheers!

Congrats janet!

Can you share more about how you were able to get over the need for the toast, juice smoothie, etc? It would be a big help to others who are trying to do the same.

Aargh! I wasn't able to log in last night at all!

Jana it sounds like you're on the road to recovery now. I've never been able to eat the protein powders. I have a strange reaction to them. My blood pressure goes sky high and I get the shakes. It's happened every time I try one?!!?!

Sharon, I hope you feel better soon. I had an upper respiratory infection last April. That codeine cough syrup sure helps you sleep doesn't it.

Congrats on 500 Cranberry!

Hi Sue!

I was off on a vacation day yesterday so I didn't have to get up so early. Yeah! Here's what I had yesterday -

BREAKFAST 9:00am
3C/3P/3F
½ English Muffin
2 campiri tomatoes
½ c egg substitute
3 slices turkey bacon
1 ½ tsp peanut butter

LUNCH 12:00pm
3C/3P/3F
1 cup strawberries
½ c peaches
½ apple
2 oz canned tuna
¼ c cottage cheese
2 tsp smart balance mayo
1 tsp slivered almonds

I mixed the apples, almonds, mayo and tuna for a tuna salad. Normally, I'm a boiled egg, pickles and onions girl, but it was good.

Then I made a smooth out of the strawberries, peaches and cottage cheese.

SNACK 3:30pm
1C/1P/1F
½ apple
1 oz lean ham
6 peanuts

DINNER 6:30pm
3C/3P/3F
1 cup green beans
¼ cup carrots
½ cup pears
3oz chicken breast
18 peanuts

SNACK 9:30pm
1C/1P/1F
2 campiri tomatoes
1 oz turkey off the bone
3 olives

Today was a weigh in day. Two more pounds lost for a total of 23 lbs. I will post my meals for today later.

Reading up on these paleo sites simply convinced me that we don't need grains.....these folks just eat a lot of fruit and veg, and mostly veg... some of them go with dairy....I'd love to give that up too, but that's not happening yet. And of course there is a subgroup, the paleo-zone....

aw, thanks Sue! You're right -- it IS getting easier :-) ... I'm learning how to "listen" to my body's reaction to foods and the P/C/F balance. For the first time, the goal for me isn't about the # on the scale (although staying within my 5-pound goal range is important) -- but I'm motivated to achieve and maintain the good feelings of energy and alertness that I have when I get the foods and balance "right" :-) ... it's a constant learning process, which keeps it interesting!

Thanks again for the congrats, and for all the info and support you all provide!

hey Janet! Glad you checked in! Good luck with your paleo-zone conversion and if you come across any favorite recipes please post them for us....you know how we love new recipes ;-)

Sharyn...I like whey protein. I was using this fabulous one called 'North Coast Naturals' and it was 100% organic whey protein with no sugars or questionable ingredients. When I went back to the store to get more they weren't selling it anymore so I quickly grabbed 'Designer Whey' just because I had heard it mentioned on this site as being a good one. It tastes great but I'm disappointed that it contains some sugars, etc so I will hunt for the 'North Coast' one again....I also really want to try the Zone powder but haven't made the order yet. Oh, and I always get the chocolate flavour...yum! But to be honest I really only use it in some smoothies and now in my applesauce snack...I prefer to stick to 'real' food as much as possible.

Deb...congrats on the loss...woo hoo!!! Your lunches the last 2 days sound great!

Laurie...that's what its all about!! Keeping the good feeling going!! Congratulations on your progress in the Zone!

Tuesday's Zone:
S: 1/2c yogurt, 1tsp mac butter (1/1/1)
B: 2/3c oatmeal, 1/2c lf cc, 2tsp natural peanut butter (2/2/2)
L: vegetable soup with 4.5oz nf deli turkey added, 1Tbsp pb right off the spoon for desert (3/3/3)
D: ex lean ground turkey with texmex seasoning, 1/4c kidney beans, salsa, grated lf texmex cheese on 1/2 tortilla, pear for desert (3/3/3)
S: 2/3c applesauce, 2 blocks PP, 2tsp almond butter (2/2/2)
