ok, I was thinking about Karen's question and Zone guidelines. Here is what hit me. CC you were saying if she is not moving to stimulate the metab, then it shouldn't matter and I have to agree, because, what about when you wake during the night. I mean, I generally wake 1-2 times per night and have to get up to use the bathroom. I'm certainly not going to run down to get a snack at 1:30 or 4:30 in the morning. My alarm goes off at 5:15. I don't actually get out of bed for another 15-20 min. I start my hour then as I consider myself still waking. I think it is the same for you Karen.

I think I would read the guideline as follows, 1 hour after getting up. I know others will not like that opinion, but there have been mornings where I woke at 4:30 and could not fall back to sleep, but sure as heck was not going to get up. does that mean I should have gotten my breakfast by 5:30? That would put lunch at 10:30, snack at 3 and my dinner doesn't come until 6. Day totally messed up.

I think if you are able to sleep through the night and be on a very regimented schedule, then that's great. But if you can't I think you need to be able to go with the flow some.

I also think of a day when you can sleep in. You body is used to say a 7AM breakfast, but on Sat you sleep until 9, won't that mess with things just as much?

I had a smoothie for breakfast today. Lasted 4+ hours, that's ok in my book. Lunch didn't do me as well. Salad, with some denser carb and turkey. Hungry 1.5 hours later. Gotta mess with that meal. Dinners generally are ok.

Here's a tip for everyone who may not be aware of this. A pharmacist is a health professional but not a doctor as someone posted here eariler. A pharmacist has a degree in pharmacy, not a medical degree. A pharmacist who also happened to have a second degree such as a MD, a DO, a PhD, etc. would be a doctor, though not necessarily a medical doctor, as in the case of a PhD.

Hi, Everyone! I called Zone Labs 800 number today and they told me I would not be OOZ if I stayed in bed and laid still (she added the laid still!). As soon as I get out of bed is when the one hour would start, even just sitting in a chair counts. She did say she wasn't an expert, but that is what she's been told. She did try transferring me twice to an expert, but there wasn't an answer. I might try calling tomorrow to see if I can get through to an expert just to confirm.

Sue, thanks for the reference to Felicia's post. I had read that before. My thing is I eat my snack when I go to bed, so it wouldn't be on an empty stomach. Except for when I wake in the morning, my stomach never feels empty! LOL!

Karen,

That is good news and kind of the way I felt about it. Not sure if you saw my post today, but I compared to waking during the night. I think you are good. Just my opinion though.

I did see your post, Sue ... thank you!

Well, Everyone, the Zone seems to be working for me! I went to the doctor today. I was down another 3.5 lbs, so a total of 8.5 lbs since 12/1/08 (I started the diet on 12/4/08). But this is the BIG news. Each of my knees went down one inch! I am so excited! When I started I couldn't bend my fingers at all ... now I can bend them about 50%. When I started I couldn't bend my knees ... now I can bend them about 25-33%. All I can say is the Zone is a miracle drug for me! It's my NEW drug of choice! LOL!

Margaret, I did 10 whole minutes on my pilates machine today! Still not able to add bands, but that's okay. Also, I finally made it to 10 reps with my 2 lb weights! Little by little, I'll get there!

Karen,

I haven't been here very long, so I don't know your issues, but your Dr. report was AWESOME. What a great testimonial. All that progress in just over a month, that is fantastic. What an inspiration!

Thanks, Sue! I'm pretty psyched about it. I'm doing better than I thought possible in this short amount of time. It just shows what the Zone lifestyle can do! Now I can't wait for my next doctor appointment on 3/2/09! LOL!

Karen, that is terrific! I am so happy for you! Each month, I can't wait to hear about the milestones that you hit!

I am glad that you checked on the "eat within an hour of waking" issue. That is kind of what I was thinking, too. Waking up and laying in bed is much different than waking up and running a marathon! I also do not count the hour from the moment my alarm goes off. I generally lay there for a bit, too.

Why can't you eat oatmeal (steel cut) every morning?

Elizabeth - Oatmeal is not listed as one of the favorable carbs, that is why they do not suggest you having it every day. However, I think you need to find what works for you. my opinion on that one.

Girls, I had the best dinner. I felt so awesome after. A little strange, but the combo seemed to work for me. I had 1 oz of Turkey, 1/2 cup FF cottage cheese, 1 hard cooked egg for my P. Then I had 1/4 c. pinto beans in my coleslaw, 8 radishes and 1/3 c. apple sauce for my C. F came from my coleslaw dressing (homemade with olive oil) Wow was I full after and I had a ton of energy. Seems those things work for me, at least in that combo.

Elizabeth, steel-cut oats is on the favorable carb list. The reason for possibly not having it every day is it contains GLA. Having too much GLA causes a spillover effect and turns to AA. Simplest way for me to describe it ... it may not be a perfect definition, but it's the way I understand it. Some people do perfect eating steel-cut oats five days a week. It varies how often I eat it ... sometimes 4-5 times a week. But I've recently decided to have it no more than every other day; so since I had a little today, I won't have it tomorrow. I'm doing it just as a precautionary measure.

Sue, steel cut oatmeal is on the low glycemic-load carb list. I am very new at this, I thought that meant it is favorable.

Hi Karen

Fantastic about your pilates machine workout!!! I am the same as Angela (and others) - cant wait to hear how each doctors appointment went. I reckon the fish oil is great! I dont have any aches or pains when I take it.

Unfortunately I am going backwards. I feel like I am trying to swim upstream .... I am exercising each day, eating Zone and have gone back up to my starting weight and waist measurement .... it has to be some hormonal menopause thing with me. I cant remember if you said you were of that age but it must be different for each woman. I see lots of ladies around the shops with weight around their stomach areas and feel for them. Then I have seen other ladies (mistaken them for teenagers) with the most trim fit looking bodies.

We had a morning tea at work today - I had had my brown batter smoothie for breakfast so was feeling full and didnt eat a thing. I havent bought chocolate for months so these are definetly 2 positive things for staying with the Zone. Plus I am not feeling light headed anymore.

I will keep trying and hopefully something positive in the scales area will happen soon .....

Margaret

Elizabeth - I'm sorry about saying that Oatmeal was not favorable, Thank you Karen for fixing that. I said that because earlier in this thread, Sue had said my oatmeal was not fav. I just checked the block list and the slow cooking oats, which I use, are on the fav list. They are listed right below the steel cut oats. Sorry for the confusion.
