| Hi Sara, check out the Cooking Tips forum here. Your exericse sounds fine, more than many people do. Dr. Sears has explained the in the Zone 80% of your weight loss will be due to what you eat, 20% to exercise. Good luck! |

I thought I would be burning fat all the time by eating in the Zone? Does this mean that I am only burning at 80% efficiency, and need exercise to burn at 100% efficiency? |

| Hi Sara, I'm new too, and am hoping to loose about 35 lbs. I have lost 8 so far in the 3 weeks I have been following the zone, but I'm still figuring it all out. I have had some blunders already, but I have found that the steel cut oats w/ cashew or almond butter and eggs is the best breakfast for me! I have also been practicing with altering my regular recipies and making them zone friendly. For example using plain low fat yogurt instead of sour cream in casseroles and using large leaf lettue instead of a bun or bread when making sandwiches. My advice is to just try new foods or ways of cooking, I have been having a lot of fun with that! For the most part I'm loving the new foods I'm trying. However I did do spaghetti squash w/ ground chicken and tom. sauce the other night for dinner and found that I HATED it! |

| I am also just starting the Zone Diet. I am in my senior year of college and I am a member of the varsity track and field team. Although my primary purpose of doing the Zone Diet is not to lose weight (although I wouldn't mind dropping a few pounds) I just want to create healthy habits for when I am out of college and no longer a varsity athlete. I have tried various diets before including the paleolithic diet (which my boyfriend does) and found it very difficult as I am not a big meat eater. The Zone Diet seems to be on the same principles but a little more contextualized to "modern" time. I am looking forward to leaving college in May with a diploma and a healthy lifestyle! |

Hi, I'm Lorie I am just started the Zone Monday. I need to lose about 25 lbs and get my hypoglycemia under control. I have not started exercising yet. I have moderate scoliosis and am meeting with a PT tomorrow for a safe exercise plan. I am very impatently waiting on the Zone meals in Seconds Cookbook.
I hope to eventually help my children with the zone. My son is 12 with ADHD and is an avid soccer player and on higher than I would like Meds. My daughter is 4 and has meltdowns everyday at 4 pm.

| Since this is looking like an "introduce yourself" thread, I'll do the same! I'm new - in fact not fully started yet but am making an attempt to begin today. I began reseaching Zone eating over the weekend, but unfortunately after I had already done my grocery shopping for the week with some "bad" foods in the cart that I need to get rid of (bananas fortunately are not a big $$ loss) So, I'm allowing myself this week to try out different food combos to create blocks that will work for me and go "full force" next week. Am stopping by the bookstore on my way home from work to buy "A Week in the Zone" (or something like that) as I've read that it's the most user friendly of his books to date. My story - I exercise and usually eat right, but started back to work around 8 months ago and my eating and exercise habits have both gotten out of whack. I want to lose 10lbs (5 gained since starting work) and find a nutrition program that makes me energized and compliments my workouts. I'm 47 and have defintely noticed the loss in muscle mass, but I find it hard put on muscle (w/o fat!) so I'm hoping the Zone is the answer. Seems like it will be. Good luck to us all!! |

I am new here too. I just started yesterday, my doctor recommended this program. I need to lose about 35lbs and also get my hypoglycemia under control. I am 5’3” and 160lbs. I started back exercising yesterday and hope to continue to feel good instead of sluggish. I read the first book Enter the Zone and I have skimmed A week in the Zone and Mastering the Zone. So far I am a little confused because some of the information is contradicting. I plan on reading Mastering the Zone and Toxic Fat. I also ordered Zone meals in Seconds.
I know for my second day I already feel better than I have in weeks! I am VERY excited about that!!

It's great to have a doctor who supports the Zone, and very hard to find. In the early 2000's, this site used to have a link of Zone friendly Doctor's - but it was out-of-date, then. I can't imagine how hard it would be to keep it up. Still looking . . . |

honestly- this is what I did . from the list make your own list. highlight from the food list the things you like to eat and that you already buy . Then post it on your fridge I posted those things and 1 block . Now I know for B l d i have to x 3 and for the snacks i am good. remember the Kiss - keep it simple .... Breakfast - i had 1 cup milk 1p 1c 3 rashes of turkey bacon 1p 1 egg 1 p - there is my 3 proteins 1 piece of plain bread 2 carb s plus the one from the mi lk = 3 carbs and 9 almonds real simple for the fat . if you start cooking large amounts right off the bat you are going to be tempted to eat more than you should. the great thing about the zone to keep your grocery bill low is that there is nothing at all that says you cannot eat the same thing every day. So i eat the same thing 1 week and then change it the next and so on. I used to sell the zone at a health club so I know and I lost over 35 lbs on it. best of luck I know you can do it!!!! |

Welcome Lori! I've been on vacation for a couple weeks and just saw this post today. I wanted to let you know how much the Zone and Omega Rx has helped my son who has ADD. He 23, now, almost 24 , and has been eating in the Zone since he was 8 or 9, specifically for the health benefits; he’s never been overweight. He was 15 when Omega Rx became available. Just 3 weeks after he began taking it the difference was like night and day. It was nothing short of amazing. I can say enough good things about it. He began on the typical dose for ADD, 2 tablespoons of liquid daily, and now only needs 1 tablespoon daily. His previously failing and barely passing grades jumped up to A's and B's in one report card quarter and stayed there throughout the rest of high school. Last year he finished school at a 4 yr college, thanks in no small part to Omega Rx and the guidance that Barry Sears provided to us regarding my son's dosing. Best of luck to you and your whole family as you start the Zone! |

Sue thanks! I am very impressed with how you and your family has used the Zone to change your life. I hope I can do the same. How did you figure Blocks for your son or did you just use the eyeball method. My boy is a little athlete and in a growth spurt. He is 12 years old, 5'0", 91 lbs, very little body fat, 6-pack abs. He loves soccer. He has practice Tues and Thurs night for about 2 1/2 hours. Refs and plays games on Sat. He also plays during recess at school and his sisters soccer practice. He is also active in Boy Scouts, Piano, and Band. Usually an A or B student, but 2 C's this semester. I try to help him make good choices...I don't think we are in the Zone with him. I am waiting on the meals in seconds book to come in th mail. Any advice would be greatly apreciated. |

Eyeball approach in general. Teens can use adult block amounts from the caculator plus another block or two added daily to provide the protein they need becasue they're still growing. That book has a chapter on kids with some basic info. My son did soccer, Boy Scouts and piano, too!
My tips, gradually switch your kitchen over to only Zone friendly foods and things will be a lot easier. On you shopping list, include the favorites of all family members from the lists of best Zone foods, so everyone has things they like. |

Thanks, now I don't feel so guilty easing into the diet. I kinda have an all or nothing personality that sometimes gets me into trouble. Night before last I made my family's homemade spagettii sauce. That day I zoned all day until that meal and it didn't effect me too badly. The next day at lunch I had some more and passed out on the couch for two hours. Today I feel like I have been on a drinking binge. My husband has been arguing with me that it isn't our diet. I know today I have to make some serious changes. |
