Hi everyone. It's been a while since my first post and I just wanted to share with you the success I've had so far with being on the Zone. I started off back in late March or early April at 5"7' and about 220lbs. Now coming up on the end of August my lowest weigh in has been 185lbs. I went from a tight 34' pant size to having to wear a belt on a 33' pant size. Back when I started I used to give myself what I called "cheat" days. One day out of the week where I would eat an entire day out of the Zone. After a while though I started to feel ill when I ate that way. Now I hardly ever have "cheat" days and when I do it's for special occasions such as a friend who I haven't seen in years coming for a visit or a somewhat sad occasion where my favorite Italian deli was going out of business. (Just had to have a capocolla mortadella sandwich one last time) Or just a "cheat" meal every now and again I've started to incorporate walking (a very supportive friend just gave me his I-Pod) three or four times a week each 45 minutes to an hour so hopefully that will help out some. I've still got a little ways to go before I reach my goal weight. But seeing the results so far and having the support of friends has been most helpful. Thank you for letting me share/ |

| Robert, congrats on the 35 pounds lost ! Thanks for sharing. Sorry you had to close your deli. You're actually luck you don't feel so well after a cheat meal. It'll keep you on track re eating Zone balanced meals. Keep up the good job! |

Thank you for posting your success it really helps us "newbie" stay on track. I just finished my third week on the zone and have lost 6 pounds. I have a long way to go but getting my blood sugar down and losing way is motivating me to go on. So far I love the diet it has taken my carb cravings away and feel more in control of my eating. I'm not 100% in the zone but I think I'm getting there. Let's stay on track. _______________________________________________________________________ When we know better we do better. |

Hi, no luck finding the right forum and it doesn't look like I can create one so I'll stick it here and see what happens. Saving a whole bio, I have lost 85 pounds with the Zone. That said, I am having a hard time the last month with blocks and activity level so I added two pounds of fat back. I am struggling with a sporadic activity level and how to marry my activity with daily block intake. When I get my 3 days a week in of 40 mins intense, 19 blocks is purrrfect. Weeks were I do a little more or an extra day, 20. The last month I have eaten a steady 19 when I have been sedentary - and disappointingly OOZ. Per the calculator I should be at 13. Eating the extra 6 a day has created the gain and screwed with my mood, insulin, sleep, etc. etc. IS there a rule of thumb - eat for your activity for today; if you exercise today hard eat 19 today and tomorrow for recovery regardless of activity tomorrow? What do you recommend? Help me see the forest through the trees. joeclough@hotmail.com |

Joe, the rules are to eat an amount to support your LBM at your activity level as per the calculator, to eat this amount on a daily basis regardles of your exercise for the particular day, and to add extra fat to supply any additional energy needs.
BTW, to begin a new thread, click on the particular forum in which you wish the thread to appear. Then at the upper left you'll see where to click to begin a new topic. |

Maybe I wasn't clear. Sunday, my best intentions were to have three days of activity so I chow 19 blocks. alas, sunday of the next week comes and marriage, kids, sports, life, etc. got in the way of my exercise regimen. On Sunday, had I selected sedentary activity for the week, at my LBM of 183, I should have only had 13 blocks a day. So....if on Sunday I eat 19 and I get a good workout in, I'll eat 19 the Monday as well for recovery. Tuesday comes and something comes up - I have a biz trip through Tues - Fri. It seems like I should roll back to 13 blocks since I know I'll be sedentary.........before I try to pick it back up. Does that make what I'm asking clearer? The ZB calculator uses a 7 day block and I need a smaller unit.... |

Thanks for the additional info. Your meaning was clear the first time. Note that the activity level is determined by what you do in a week's time, not by the single day. In the Zone you eat a consistent protein amount on the days of your activity, and also on the day(s) of no activity when your muscles are recovering (rebuilding).
Congrats on your progress, 85 lbs, that's great ! |
