Hi Everybody! In honor of the 4th coming up this weekend I decided to change my photo to one taken on the Mall in DC about a month ago, with the Capitol building in the background, and Eli, of course! :-) What do you say we all share our plans here for the big holiday weekend? I'll go first. We're doing the same things that we do every year, and we love it! It starts off with the big fireworks show, which this year is the night before the 4th. It's the typical all American event, complete with entertainment by some local bands, chicken BBQ (we bring our own food, and it's much more delicious than the BBQ fare!), pony rides for the kids, etc. On the 4th is the annual extended family and friends day long-picnic at a family cottage on a nearby lake. It starts at noon and goes well into the evening, when the people living all around the lake put on their own fireworks displays. And then there's the food. There’s lots of it, a huge variety, so it’s not usually a problem finding Zone friendly items. (And I always have a couple of Dr. Sears Zone bars with me for emergencies.) The dessert table is always just as plentiful as the meal itself; cakes, brownies, pies, cookies, pudding, Jell-O and Cool Whip concoctions of all sorts…even ones with pretzels in them, candy, S’mores, you name it, it’s there. Surprisingly those desserts have lost their appeal to me. Not to rain on anyone’s picnic, but they no longer tempt me now that I know what those types of foods can do to a body, and have experienced some of it first-hand (many of you here know that I lost 100 pounds many years ago, and I’m a survivor of several different cancers). My game plan for BBQ’s is to choose the chicken, seafood, veggies and fruit, and skip the rest. My little trip into the land of unfavorable carbs this week end will probably be a tablespoon or two of my famous potato salad (famous in my pre-Zone days). I’m asked to make it for this event every year, and every couple of years I'll give in and agree to make it, for 40 to 50 people! :-) Have a happy and safe 4th of July! |

OK... I like the idea... But first, we in Mexico do not celebrate 4th of July... we celebrate 3rd of July at home... since it's my daugther birthday (jajajaj) I will have 20 kids at home... no mom's.. just kids. My daughter said she want to have healthy and junk food, so we will have fruit and hot-dogs... and cake... so I will need to be away of it. On July 4th, we will re-celebrate by having a family gathering... I will prepare bbq chicken and spinach based salad. Fresh fruit water and probably cake as well... My extended family is big (by this I mean fat) and they do not want to hear me talking about zone or healthier way or living... so I will be cooking zoning meal without advising.. except for the cake of course.. (even when I know they will bring bread and sodas with them to my house). Anyhow.. that will be my --Holiday weekend--- and I will have friday off work !!! (I should be on vacation for 2 weeks now, but a supplier fault kept me in the office)... Happy independence day !!! |

(Hmm, who said" Bernie, you are shrinking.....") what a cute pic! Your daughter is adorable! Happy b'day to her! OK, well, my 4th will be watching a fireworks show with friends and family, probably a Bar-B-Q here first....shouldn't be too hard to stay in the zone. Good thing Sue K.'s potato salad won't be anywhere near here!!!! Sue K., your 4th is quite the deal! I like the lake part!!!! |

| I think I will be going to a local fireworks display. They have it every year at the local speedway. First they have a bit of racing, then afterwards is the fireworks show. On the 5th, my aunt and I are going to drive over to Portland, we live in Boise, which is about 460 miles away. We are going to go see the American Idols Live tour. It should be pretty good. We will stay the night in Portland and come home Monday. |

Janet.... yes I am ! actually... I think I look less tall with less weight... weird isn't it?? But that pant I have there is same as a picture I posted (1st one I did) and in the picture looks not as tight as the previous.. and is just a 2 Kgs difference... not much.. but can be seen in fitting clothes.. jajaja !

We will be leaving on a camping trip. We will be with our girl scout troop. Our leader is taking her girl, and I am taking my daughter, and then another girl from our troop is going. We are camping in a tee pee! The rest of my family got the camp site right next to us, so my family will be there, too. One of the girls may be sensitive to gluten (her mom has celiac dx), and so our menu is not too bad as far as the Zone goes. Anyway, we leave in the morning, will get there and set up camp, then have some foil dinners with chix breast and veggies. Maybe some knot tying around the campfire, and some s'mores later. Saturday will be some hiking and swimming (this is one reason why I got my lifeguard certification). Eggs cooked over the fire in our messkits for breakfast, sandwiches cooked in the sandwich makers for lunch, and burgers/hotdogs for dinner. Maybe some star gazing at night. I don't think we planned to go to any fireworks displays, but will see. I have something to toss into the fire to make it burn in different colors, so that will be interesting! Then, will head back on Sunday. |

Hello..!! reporting... I AM ALIVE !!! only 12 kids show up to the party.. but that was enoght !!! almost destroyed house !! (nahh.. kidding) It was ok, they behave very good until cake and goodies... they all kids turn crazy and started to run all over the place... it was 7:20... (40 min to go)... those are the longest minutes in my life... !!! I prepared fruit (mango and granny apple) in cubes to eat with chili powder, but they over pass it... kids are too much used to junk food. So next day (4th of July) we had a family get together.. and I prepared " chicken in mango sauce"... and salad prepared with lettuce, mango, granny apple and rice vinegar- olive oil dressing... very nice lunch.. zoned, and they not even noticed.. but they liked. To drink we had "hibiscus infusion - water"... (agua de jamaica)... it was sweeten with normal sugar, since I do not like artificial sweet... prefer to use just a little of the real thing. but dessert was not zoned... it was birthday cake.. with coffee, I just took a small piece of it... and made it last. Well... that is my 3rd and 4th of July report.... 5th was elections in my country... so we have another family get together after goiing to the polling booth (we needed an excuse....) So I drink my green drink before going... so I will not be craving for food. It was OK.... a long week end... Hope you all had a great story to tell....

Dr. Barry Sears is a leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal response. A former research scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Sears has dedicated his research efforts over the past 30 years to the study of lipids. I have been taking the Fish Oil for over 3 years now. I am 44 playing hockey and working out. The Fish oil helps with the pain that I get from playing hockey. It greatly enhances my performance on the ice and while working out. I have noticed a big difference in my energy, attentiveness and memory. I have a very exhausting job as a flight attendant. I read the "Omega Rx Zone" about 4 years ago and started taking the fish oil. I am 47 and have been flying for 22 years. I am very active, I run and lift weights. But combining lack of regular sleep, a physically demanding job, and irregular eating patterns this job takes a toll on the body. Since taking the fish oil, I have noticed that I do not get exhausted. I get tired, but not exhausted. I stopped taking it for a couple of months and then started taking another company's fish oil. My wife's doctor told her to read "Enter the Zone" and to do the diet, so I told her I would do it with her. After only one week on the plan we went on a strenuous hike (the first of the year), and when we stopped at our favorite coffee shop on the way home I was able to get out of the car and stand upright and walk into the place without pain or stiffness. Prior to following the Zone Diet, my body fat was around 15% and my weight around 153 pounds. No matter what I did, my weight and body fat did not change much. I regularly cycled 20-30 hours per week logging well over 400 miles. That had little impact on body fat or weight. Diet also seemed to have little impact on body fat or weight. Within a couple of months of following the zone diet, my weight dropped rather quickly to 142 pounds and body fat to about 8%. I still regularly cycle up to 20 hours per week (during the summer). I have also started strength training. I eat about 16 blocks per day. I take 3.6 grams of fish oil per day, along with Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoic Acid, CoQ10, and B & C vitamins. I also take GLA, which in my opinion, has significantly reduced fatigue and improved recovery times after exercise.
