I thought this might be fun for those who want to do it. From another post...somebody mentioned posted a picture of their child and I thought "oh...I thought she was single"..LOL.. So...I thought it might be fun to give out some information about ourselves so we can all know eachother better. Only post what you feel comfortable with ;-) |

I'll start ;-)
My name is Kathy ...DUH!! LOL. I live in Eastern Oregon on the Idaho Border. I originally lived in Northern Ca...but moved here about 19 years ago. I am 45 this year :-( and feel like I'm running out of time to be thin!! So...I started the zone 4.5 weeks ago. I feel really good about my progress and I'm exercising daily.
My hubby and I have been married 26 years and have 3 kids...a boy who is in college age, 20...a daughter who is a senior now in high school, age 17...and a 13 years old boy. I am involved in everything my kids do and love photography, so I am constantly taking pictures at their sporting events and am considering it as a second job (people want to hire me now ) ;-)
We have a small place in Oregon and raise cattle, but also do construction. We had 300 cattle at one time, but feel that market is so bad, we can't afford to stay in it. I am a true believer that Americans should buy American products and support the American Ranchers and Farmers. We have the safest food source in the world! (ok..I'll get off this subject ;-)
I am a licensed Dyslexia Correction Facilitator and work with children and adults with Dyslexia, ADD & ADHD. I became licensed when the company I am now licensed through..was the only program that helped my youngest son how to read. He was a non-reader in 5th grade....now he is getting A's & B's in middle school ;-)
I have had a history of being on diets all my life...but found the most success the last 8 years with Atkins. I feel though now but gained weight very easily if I ate anything other than eggs/meat. . I got sucked into the Kimkins theory (low carb, low calories) and really screwed up my metabolism...so that now is being repaired. I feel very good on the Zone and hope to reach my goal weight and keep it there. ;-)

Hi Kathy, I think you were referring to me, but I was talking about "baby" meaning her dog..lol I'm Christina and I live in NYC. I am in a relationship, but not married. I have 2 dogs, my babies, Coco and Blake. They are Lhasa Apsas. I am an area Mgr for a retail company 14yrs. Im 34, turning 35 this year. I am finishing up my Masters in Education in the Spring. It was a long, but fun road. I also received my Teaching Certificate along the way. I don't have any plans on teaching, but I wanted to have something to fall back on. I have tried every diet under the sun. I do enjoy the Zone the best because of the euphoria and fullness I feel being on it. The 26 pound weightloss so far is also a factor. |

This sounds like fun! Hello, my name is Jenny, but I go by Cranberrycat here in the forums. If you are wondering why I chose that name, it is because my favorite color is "cranberry", and just about every car I have ever owned has been this "cranberry" color! Also, I am a cat freak, I had 4 cats at one time, before I got married. Now, I am down to 1 cat, which really isn't even my cat--it was my mom's. I have 3 children, ages 12-9-6. I work full time, so it is difficult to stay involved in their school activities, but I find the time to be a cub scout den leader (and serving as cub master, too), and I also am an asst. girl scout leader. I was a Camp Fire girl growing up, and I dreamed of being a camp counselor all of my life! I work as a nurse in a hospital. I do case management. My time is fairly flexible, fortunately! Almost forgot to mention, but I am an avid bowler! When I was younger, I had dreams of bowling professionally, but it never really worked out that way for me. That is fine, because I can still enjoy it. My highest game has been a 290. I have tried several diets, mostly did weight watchers and other high carb/lowfat low calorie diets, until I discovered the Zone. I was not always heavy, but it has crept up on me over the years. I discovered the Zone about 10 years ago, but did not get serious about practiciing it until 5 years ago. I like the the control I feel I have over my health and the overall feeling of well-being. Sometimes I mention that struggle with hunger on the Zone, but believe me, it would be a lot worse if I wasn't following the Zone! |

Hi Everyone! It's me, Sue. There's probably not much about me that you haven't already read in my posts here! I'm 56 years old (until my birthday next Saturday!), and have lived in the same town in CT my whole life. I've been married almost 34 years and am the mom of 3 and the grandma of 1. Our oldest daughter is 32 and is a graphic designer living in NYC. My middle daughter is 30, a PhD bio-medical engineer, who is married, lives in the Washington DC area, and is the mom of my little grandson Eli. Eli's very special to all of us. He was born last October, two months early, weighing only around 3 pounds. He's had a tough time but is doing well. My youngest, our son, is 23 and just finishing college. I can't believe he's all grown up! He and his girlfriend are living at our house while he's looking for a job, apartment, etc. I work for the Zone Labs and love it! As I've mentioned here before, participating in the forums here is not part of my job. I've been in these forums for about 10 years because I love to share info with other Zoners. My previous jobs have been a pension analyst for a major insurance company, self employed owner of a craft business, and after that, I was self employed with a small quilting business. I've also done a lot of volunteer work in the adoption field (we adopted our son from South Korea when he was a baby). Owning my own businesses, I was able to also be a stay at home mom and was always very involved in volunteer positions from school to Brownie leader to soccer, band, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, dance, color guard, piano, Little League, you name it! Typical mom stuff. :-) My hobbies and interests are cooking (and eating, in the Zone of course!), yoga, health and nutrition, hiking (my most fun hike was a few years ago, Tuckerman's ravine on Mt Washington, in the snow), snow shoeing, the beach (I've always been drawn to the ocean and find it mesmerizing, very calming; love it there!), Scrabble and reading. Reading is one of my passions. I'm never without a book to read and usually have several books going at any given time. Among my friends, I'm known for my memory. I think I remember too much, lol! :-) And, last but not least, as you all know, I lost 100 pounds with the Zone many years ago, and I have kept it off. Yeah! The Zone is one of the best things I've ever done for myself! |

Hi everyone. It's nice to meet you. I am janet....actually, janet T. might be a good way to go since there are other janets.....I'll see if I can handle the technology of changing it! I am 61, a retired art teacher, an exhibiting artist, and love cooking, writing poetry, my grandchildren, reading, gardening....and the zone! I first went on the zone about 14 yrs ago and lost quite easliy. I was a vegetarian at the time, and I wonder if that made it easier. Sears says that the new soy products really work well for the zone. However, I eat very little soy now as I feel I ate way too much for many years. I now eat meat and love it. Losing at a much slower rate now, but am still very pleased, in fact hit my first ten pound marker today!!! |

Hi all,
I'm sue, yep another one, but I use a small "s" to try and distinguish us apart. I'm married to a wonderful man who was dx with ALS July of 07. We have 2 children, a DS almost 22 who just graduated college. He majored in Sportsmed and has his ACSM cert for personal training. We also have a DD 14, just finishing her freshman year of college.
We own a metal fab business, that keeps us busy. I started out going to Cosmetology school and have my license for that. I then worked in a hospital as a nurses aide and then unit sect. Once I had my son I was a stay at home mom until we bought the business 12 years ago.
i've volunteered with school, hockey (my DS played all through school), Girls Scouts, Boy scouts, etc.
I love to quilt, knit and crochet. I also now do machine embroidery. Course not much time for that currently.

Hi, This is to the "other Sue," see quote below. Hi sue, my father-in-law now has early stage Alzheimer's, so I'm wondering whether your husband is on fish oil and whether that seems to be making any difference or not? Thanks!
Posted By sue on 05/30/2009 3:13 PM Hi all, I'm sue, yep another one, but I use a small "s" to try and distinguish us apart. Thanks for the hug. ;-) It's sad, isn't it? Do you mind if I ask how much FO your DH is on? (I assume DH= dear husband?) Also, was he on it already prior to getting Alzhiemer's? | X - my DH quit taking the FO since he could not see a difference and he's on lots of different supplements. ALS doesn't stand for Alzheimer's it is for Lou Gehrig's disease a more recognizable term for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. |

Thanks for your info re: ALS.
I'm sorry to hear about your husband's struggle.
We are hoping to get this family member to start taking fish oil, but the weird thing is, his own family physician told him to not take fish oil because it might disturb the rest of his medicines!!!

Well, hello everyone! I am (another) Jennifer. Friends call me Jen :-) I am 28, married for a bit over 2 years. We live in West TN. I worked retail while in college, did 2 years in managment, decided it was too stressful, and went to the Army 6 months after graduation. I decided to enist rather than be an officer so I could gain some real experience before leading other soldiers. My actual job was driving a truck, but I ended up doing that and many other things, too: office work, funeral details, training soldiers, etc. I really enjoyed it but couldn't stay in because I was diagnosed with Crohn's. So now, I are where I am :-) I am an accountant working on my MBA. My husband works & goes to college, suppose to start the nursing program in the spring. I volunteer with a humane society for abused dogs/cats. I am the webmaster and handle adoptions and giving shots/medications. I hope to become involved with our soon to be open Boys & Girls Club. While in the Army, I(and friend) painted murals in the hospital. I hope to have the time to do a project like that again. When we have free time, we love to hike, golf, run, shoot pool, and do basically anything where we are up and moving! I do crossfit and really like it. That's what got me to the zone! We have no children but do have 4 dogs ranging from just under 1-11 years old.....all rescues, of course. We are currently trying to decide if we want to adopt or have children and when we will be ready. After we both finish our current schooling, I plan to start working non-profit and am considering getting one more degree (likely JD). He wants to do mission work and possibly work for a military hospital. The accountability forum is great! It really helps to keep me on track knowing that I have already told others what I'm eating for the day. Makes me feel guilty when I deviate...haha It is great to "meet" you all! |

I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.

Dr. Barry Sears is a leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal response. A former research scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Sears has dedicated his research efforts over the past 30 years to the study of lipids. He holds 13 U.S. Patents in the areas of intravenous drug delivery systems and hormonal regulation for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
A turning point in his research occurred in 1982. That year, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded for discoveries of the role that specialized hormones, known as eicosanoids, play in the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, and cancer. Since eicosanoids are only generated from dietary fat, Dr. Sears reasoned that one could apply intravenous drug delivery principles to nutrition in order to control these exceptionally powerful hormonal responses with laser-like precision. In essence, his approach treats food as if it were a drug.
This area of his research led to various patents in the area of hormonal control by essentially using food as an oral drug delivery system to modulate eicosanoids especially for cardiovascular, diabetic, and neurological patients.
The impact of Dr. Sears’ revolutionary work in the dietary control of hormonal response began with the publication of his landmark book, The Zone. Since its publication in June 1995, The Zone has sold more than 2,000,000 hardcover copies, and became a #1 best seller on the New York Times book list. In addition, The Zone has been translated into 22 languages indicating a worldwide response to Dr. Sears’ research. His second book, Mastering the Zone, published in 1997, also became a New York Times bestseller with hardcover sales in excess of 500,000 copies to date. His third book, Zone Perfect Meals in Minutes, published in 1997, quickly became one of the best-selling cookbooks of 1997 and an another New York Times bestseller. The Anti-Aging Zone was published in 1999 and provides the molecular insights into how the Zone Diet can reverse the aging process. The Omega Rx Zone, published in 2002, explores the molecular foundation of chronic disease and how high-dose fish oil can dramatically reverse it. His latest book The Anti-Inflammation Zone discusses how to combat silent inflammation in order to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, and many other inflammatory conditions—and how to reverse these conditions if they are already present. To date more than 5 million hardcover copies of his Zone books have been sold in the United States.
His research has elevated food from more than simply a source of calories to being recognized as an exceptionally powerful drug. Because of his revolutionary research, Dr. Sears has been a frequent guest on many national programs such as 20/20, Today, Good Morning America, CBS Morning News, CNN, and MSNBC.
Dr. Sears continues his ongoing research as President of Zone Labs, a biotechnology company in Danvers, MA as well as the President of the non-profit Inflammation Research Foundation in Marblehead, MA. In addition to continuing research on the hormonal effects of food, Dr. Sears has expanded his research in developing innovative dietary approaches to treating cancer and neurological conditions, as well as his on-going work in treating cardiovascular diease and type 2 diabetes.

I have been taking the Fish Oil for over 3 years now. I am 44 playing hockey and working out. The Fish oil helps with the pain that I get from playing hockey. It greatly enhances my performance on the ice and while working out. I have noticed a big difference in my energy, attentiveness and memory. If I miss a day for whatever reason, I notice a huge difference and it feels like something is missing. Anyway that is my short little story and it comes from the heart.
– Carter B.
I am a nutritionist and Ph.D. doctor of health and nutrition. For Dr. Sears to figure out balancing fat, carbs and protein, is really beyond brilliant. It is a milestone in diet history. I go over people's diet/emotional journals. Mostly all the time, we discover that the fatigue, irritability, unstable emotions were due to the imbalance in their diet. Using the Zone to balance them out, helps control weight, roller coaster emotions and gives them energy. Dr. Sears is so right when he says food is medicine. He has figured out the most powerful drug combination going, called The Zone.
Best and healthy wishes,
– Elaine W., Ph.D., N.C., M.A.
I have a very exhausting job as a flight attendant. I read the "Omega Rx Zone" about 4 years ago and started taking the fish oil. I am 47 and have been flying for 22 years. I am very active, I run and lift weights. But combining lack of regular sleep, a physically demanding job, and irregular eating patterns this job takes a toll on the body. Since taking the fish oil, I have noticed that I do not get exhausted. I get tired, but not exhausted. I stopped taking it for a couple of months and then started taking another company's fish oil. I started getting exhausted again. I came back to Zone Labs and will continue with the fish oil for the rest of my life. I believe in the product and it makes a huge difference in my life. It makes a difference with my running as well. I also bring the bars and shakes with me on the road. It is almost impossible to eat the way I should at work. I haven't found the right secret. At least I have my Zone fish oil, bars, and shakes.
– Kathryn S.
I have been in the Zone, for about 1 month now. I wanted to share with you how wonderful I think this program is. I have been a personal trainer for almost 10 years and actively compete in numerous athletic activities. The Zone program has helped me to achieve a better awareness of my nutritional needs and the results I have seen are amazing! I have lost nearly 13 lbs since I have been in the Zone. I feel more mentally alert, more focused at work, have greater intensity during my training, have made significant strength gains, and just feel better over all. With that said, I would like to thank you for helping me in my quest for "super-health"!
Thank you!
– Rob Y.
I read 'The Zone' and as exactly as I could followed the advice for diet. I noted weight loss progress. Over six months, I lost 33 pounds. One year has passed since then. I have maintained the new weight, guided always by Zone concepts. The Zone is powerful - I have found it fantastic and I am very grateful to Dr Sears.
– Lyn S.
Before I stumbled across the Zone I was weighing close to two hundred pounds and I was depressed. I used to be a gymnast as a young man. I would think, "look at me now," when I looked in a mirror. The day I found 'The Zone' book, I was intrigued and as I read it the science made sense and so, I began to follow the "treatment". I began to lose weight and I was feeling way more energetic. I am forty two years old, I am very active and my weight is down to 162 lbs, 38 pounds lost on the Zone. I cycle, walk, jog, swim and I can now perform some of the more simple gymnastic skills I did twenty years ago...I literally feel like I have turned back the clock.
Thank you!
– Jack J.
I have been on the Zone diet for 7 years. I did not go on the diet to lose weight necessarily; but fairly quickly I lost 25 pounds, going from 190 to 165; from a 36-inch waist to a 32-inch waist. I primarily did the Zone to live healthier. My health is excellent now. I just turned 62 years old. My Zone is my eating lifestyle now; I seldom stray; and I do not miss anything. It is The Good Life.
– Curtis Y.
My wife's doctor told her to read "Enter the Zone" and to do the diet, so I told her I would do it with her. After only one week on the plan we went on a strenuous hike (the first of the year), and when we stopped at our favorite coffee shop on the way home I was able to get out of the car and stand upright and walk into the place without pain or stiffness. The Zone had eliminated all the inflammation that had always forced me to stumble all humped over into the coffee shop any time we skied or hiked all day.
Thank you, Doctor Sears.

I used to have a lot of knee pain when I walked or ran. I have been taking Omega Rx for almost a year now, and rarely have any pain. I believe it is the anti-inflammation action of the oil. I feel smarter as well. Thanks for developing such a superior oil!

Prior to following the Zone Diet, my body fat was around 15% and my weight around 153 pounds. No matter what I did, my weight and body fat did not change much. I regularly cycled 20-30 hours per week logging well over 400 miles. That had little impact on body fat or weight. Diet also seemed to have little impact on body fat or weight. Within a couple of months of following the zone diet, my weight dropped rather quickly to 142 pounds and body fat to about 8%. I still regularly cycle up to 20 hours per week (during the summer). I have also started strength training. I eat about 16 blocks per day. I take 3.6 grams of fish oil per day, along with Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoic Acid, CoQ10, and B & C vitamins. I also take GLA, which in my opinion, has significantly reduced fatigue and improved recovery times after exercise.

All polyphenols have antioxidant properties than can be measured by their Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC), but not all polyphenols have anti-inflammatory properties. The polyphenols in Dr. Sears’ Zone Polyphenol Plus have been carefully chosen to have both.
Polyphenols are the phytochemicals that not only give fruits and vegetables their color, but also help regulate inflammation. In addition, polyphenols also activate the key enzyme (AMP kinase) that helps restore cellular ATP levels. Polyphenols also help regulate the activation of inducible inflammatory proteins (such as COX-2 and inflammatory cytokines).
There are more than 4,000 known polyphenols, and the richest sources are fruits and vegetables. In general, the more color a fruit or vegetable has, the richer the polyphenol content.

Zone Labs starts with only wild, small fish from pristine Chilean waters and ends with proprietary validation and testing processes to achieve an IFOS certified 5 star rating.
8-Step Manufacturing Process - Quality Assured
Testing to specification all raw materials, bulk products, packaging material and finished products – always using stringent internal standards and in-process testing.
- Extraction of fish oil
- Winterization – remove limited amounts of saturated fats
- Absorption – remove heavy metals
- Preliminary Molecular Distillation – refining “touch up” to reduce contaminants
- Oil conversion to ethyl esters
- Ethyl ester thermal fractionation – remove additional saturated fats
- True Molecular Distillation – final refining to remove pcb’s and long-chain monoenes
- Rigid Processes – proprietary validation, inspection and encapsulation methods. Independent lab verification of IFOS requirements and certified 5 star rating
No farmed fish. No large fish. Pristine waters.
Zone Labs starts with wild sardines & anchovies fished from cold, pristine waters off of South America where there are less environmental impurities.
A recommended serving of Zone Labs Ultra-Refined Concentrates delivers 8 times more omega-3’s than a typical retail fish oil supplement.
Most fish oil supplements have 30% or less of the healthy omega-3s EPA and DHA, with the remaining 70% of the capsule containing unbeneficial, lesser refined fatty acids that contribute to their bad taste and gastric side effects.
Getting a clinically valid dose of omega-3’s is easy with Zone Labs’ Ultra-Refined Omega-3 Concentrates.
Typical Retail Dose = 300mg omega-3
Standard Zone Dose = 2400mg omega-3
