I just want to double check...Can the Zone bars and shakes be used to replace a complete meal or are they just meant to be snacks? There's not much information on the box about how to use them. Not only does it not mention how many blocks they're worth, but they also don't seem to comply with the 10, 20, 30 ratio of fat to protein to carbs. I have an extremely hectic two weeks coming up soon and will be having meals on the run. I'm considering replacing lunch for a few days with a bar or a shake. Any advice on how to effectively use them?

Yes, Dr. Sears Zone bars and shakes can be used for either a meal or a snack, as Julie wrote. One bar contains 2 blocks of P, C and F. 1/2 bar is a 1 block snack; 1 1/2 bars is a 3 block meal. One shake packet mixed with a cup of 2% milk is a 3 block meal. If you use lower fat or fat free milk add fat to the meal to achieve balance. I've been eating Dr. Sears Zone bars and shakes for years and they work very well.

May, Just posting that bars and shakes used as meal replacements just don't always work well for everyone. Sometimes I can get by using bars as a snack (1/2 bar), but even the bars don't hold me to the next meal quite as long as eating REAL food. And, speaking of shakes, not everyone can do well on liquid carb meals. But, you could take the shake mix and mix it into some plain yogurt. That may help! If your week is going to be hectic, you could plan ahead and make up a batch of chili, or something that you can make up once and just reheat easily. Chili is an awesome zone food! Anyway, no problem if your choice is to use those products, but I just wanted to be sure to let you know that they don't work for everyone. |

The Zone bars have been really helpful to me when I'm out running around and need to eat something balanced. For me, they satisfy hunger quite well. Also, when I've inadvertently eaten a meal hasn't been totally balanced and leaves me feeling icky, eating 1/2 a bar helps to get me back into the Zone more quickly.

May, some more info. Dr Sears has tested his bars on diabetics with excellent results, and holds has US patents on them.

See, we are all very individual in our bar responses. I don't do as well with bars. But, that is me. I can do pretty well on a 1/2 bar for a snack, as long as my meal isn't too far away, but using them on a consistent basis does not keep me in the Zone.
