Hi,

Can anyone tell me the quantity of soy beans to equal one block? I know they are a P/C mix - however the downloaded guide only says '1/4 block'. How much is a block? I buy them in a bag from the Chinese Grocer?....

Thanks,
The Don

soybeans boiled, 1/4 cup = 1 protien block and 2/3 carb block (info taken from THE SOY ZONE)

Thanks Sue,

This seems an awfully small amount when you consider that there is only 4g of protein per 60g of beans. (Sorry i'm in Australia)

Using the zone's calculations..if 7g of protein is a block, then 105g of beans equals one zone block (of protein). There's no way a quarter of a metric cup is 105g??? it would be closer to 20g.

My question is - do you go by the protein content of the food itself when trying to work out zone quantities for foods not listed? I thought the theory is to use the protein and carb amounts of each food type to determine quantity (i.e. meat has a higher protein level than tofu - hence you can have a larger amount of tofu (by weight) than meat as one protein block)

I'm finding a lot of difference between zone websites and recipes!

Thanks,
Donna

Hi Donna!

I checked the USDA nutrition site and it agrees with the info in the Zone book. 1/4 cup (43 grams) of boiled soybeans contains a little over 7 grams of protein. Here's the address to that info:

http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/cgi-bin/list_nut_edit.pl

Yes, I go by the nutritional content of the food itself for foods not listed in the Zone food block list.

You can be confident relying on the food block list.
