Margaret,

Again, just want to jump in again. I know you are trying very hard! A few posts here and there does not tell the true story of what your life is like. I believe you when you say that you have put in a lot of effort.

Don't get caught up in all the details that you end up not seeing the forest through the trees. That is the biggest mistake that I made through the years, getting caught up in all of the little details, rather than just relaxing about it and just letting it happen.

I disagree with Sue about the bars. I really think that you will be better off eating real food for snacks, rather than depending on bars. They are nice to have around for emergencies, but that is really about it. I was just reading an article today about bars (all bars, even the Zone bars were mentioned). There is not enough evidence out there at all that supports the claims on these or any bars. I wish I would have saved the article, will have to go back to my work email and see if I still have the source. But, it was an independently written article. No bias.

And, from personal experience, I have not ever gotten good satiety responses from the Zone bars. I have tried eating 3 blocks worth of bars for a meal, and I can barely make 3 hours of satiety from that. 1/2 bar as a snack does not even get me through an hour. However, 2 tomatoes sliced up and drizzled in olive oil and served with an ounce of lowfat chix breast definitely carries me much longer--at least 1.5-2 hours. Even my favorite snack of cottage cheese, blueberries and almonds can carry me longer than a 1/2 bar.

I am not here to knock zone products, but I think that Sears had originally intended for people to eat lots of veggies and fruits, lean protein and good fats. And, that the sources of these foods would be REAL food. Bars were a nice convenience item, and lots of people wanted an easy way to get a zone meal/snack. So, bars (and shakes) were invented. But, in the long run, the best way to go is with real food.

Now that I have run on and on about that, I have another consideration for you. As I was scanning through some things last night, I came across vitamin D as another way of fighting insulin resistance.

Hi Margaret!

Yes, the time change, I know.

You already know that I have no question about your effort and dedication! My references to your previously posted material are to offer insight into your personal solution, and also to hopefully help other readers here who might be in a similar situation.

Simply stated, your current diet needs to be changed to allow you to lower your insulin into the Zone. It's not even necessary to have your details to know how you can accomplish this.

Are you up for a new focus? The new focus is to forget your weight and concentrate all your efforts on lowering both insulin and inflammation. How? You already know how, and I'll be happy to help with any questions you might have. This focus is precisely the way I lost my 100 pounds in the Zone, and it's worked for many others who I've helped here in the forums. It's all about choices!

Have a great weekend! I'm going to see two of my daughters, my son-in law and my little baby grandson on Sunday, just for the day. :-)

Oh, I almost forgot. I've decided to start posting more of my easy vegetable dishes in my recipe and meal post. Maybe they'll give you some ideas. Think veggies and color on you plate! :-)

Hi Deborah!

Dr. Sears has written that fish oil after dinner can be helpful for preventing snacking in the evening.

Some people, including me, have found that their sleep is disturbed/restless when they take fish oil at night (for me the cutoff is about 5 PM). Others do very well with it at night.

More info, Dr Sears told me that whatever time of day you decide to take it is fine.

Hi CC

I think getting caught up in the detail is probably part of it. I have a pretty busy life with work etc and to be lugging around this extra weight is depressing. I think about it most of the time so need to relax a bit. Dr's appointment is next Friday which I am excited about! I want to see if my blood pressure has gone down and have a good talk about what the insulin tablets are supposed to be doing.

The bars I will just carry in my bag for emergencies and have whole foods when I can. I am going to do the black beans and onions with scrambled eggs on Sunday.

Will google the vitamin D tomorrow - I am just about to go to bed. Havent heard that one before.

How's that Sue - we posted at the exact same minute!

I have just been googling The Top 100 Zone Foods book as I couldnt find it at the shops. Some of the prices go very low up to very high - crazy.

Cant wait to see the veggie recipes. I am a pretty good cook so will be making them! I had your tofu/cocoa pudding for breakfast. It was delicious and kept me in the Zone for about 4 hours.

My poor husband is exhausted from me saying "you have to eat more vegetables" ..... actually he had a good idea - he said lets get cauliflower for soup. Off to the markets tomorrow so will add that to the list.

I definetly have the lowering of insulin well and truly embedded in my head. I was classed as pre-diabetic in 2005 and dont want to go down that track again!

OK - me off to bed ..... have fun with your daughters, son-in-law and grandson.

Thanks Margaret!

BTW, did you ever find out if that insulin result is expressed as uIU/ml? (it sould be labeled on your report)

A tip, for better results, try scrambled tofu with veggies on the side for breakfast, and reserve the chocolate tofu with fruit for a once in a while snack.

LOL! I think I have been on this forum since late 2004 or early 2005 (obviously going back to the old forums). Maybe I am wrong, but I was thinking Alexy came along a bit later than that.

I do miss chatting with John and Dennis--definitely, their expertise is missed around here.

Hi CC

I am sitting here with my trout photo all ready to go and I am having such trouble. It just wont attach. Did you have trouble when you did yours? I have sent a screen dump to show my daughters boyfriend who is an IT guy so hopefully I can attach it soon.

Also, when the "Not Reads" havent been touched for a while they seem to disappear off my list. Then I have to start all over again by reading the Forums tag.

I didn't have trouble attaching this picture, but I can remember having trouble in the past with it (and specifically with this particular picture, too!).

I also have the same problme, my NOT READ folder seems to disappear. I think I know the remedy, just go to ACTIVE TOPICS and set it for the timespan that you think you are trying to retrieve messages from. Then, I think when you go back to NOT READ, they should be there.

Hi Margaret!

Here's how I do it:

1. Click on "My Profille" at the top of this page.

2. Click on "Edit Profile" that appears at the bottom left after your info.

3. Click on the box containing the word "Browse" to the right of the blank box which appeares just after the words Upload Avatar. This will let you browse through the files stored on your computer. When you find the appropriate photo file, click to enter the file into the empty box.

4. Click on the words "Update Profile" at the bottom left just below those boxes and you will have successfully updated your profile to display the photo you chose next to each post you make.

Hi Sue

Just tried it again. Still not working ... I have sent the email.

Had to tell you. I looked at the shops for the Zone book Top 100 foods. Was told it was out of print maybe try 2nd hand book stores. I looked on web - there were some but postage was pretty high. On Saturday I went to markets and in the buildings next door they were having a huge book sale with proceeds going to a charity called Lifeline that takes phone calls 24/7 for people in trouble.

I have never been to one of these sales then suddenly thought this would be a good place to look for the book. OMG!!!! I not only found the 100 Foods, I got Zone Blocks, A Week in the Zone and Soy Zone!!! I got 2 copies of Soy and Top 100 - am going to give my daughter a copy. I also got the book Okanawa Way which I noticed was mentioned on the back of the Soy book. These books plus 4 Westerns for my Dad cost $24! One Zone book alone had $24 on the back label. Bargain. The book sale will be on again in September. I am going to go and see if the Anti-Inflammation book turns up. All the books are donated by the public.

You hit the jackpot! Great! Too bad for the people who donated those copies; they probably won't benefitting from the Zone. Their loss is your gain. I think you'll really like the top 100 book. My cousin is the chairman of a similar book sale for the local historical society (she refres to it as the hysterical society, lol..oh, the stories she has about that place!). But the book donations the get are amazing!

Good luck with the photo!

Yes, I was thinking the same thing about how someone didnt want the book anymore which was sad. The Week in the Zone was quite worn but the others are in really good condition - one looks like it hasnt been touched. Another has had words underlined. I am fussy about my things and like to keep them like new so will have to ignore the markings ..... I might white them out.

Hey, if they're good points, keep them! I'm the same when it comes to my books, though the first thing I do when I get one is write my name and date on either the inside cover or the first page. Instead of writing, highligting or underlining in them, I usually use sticky-notes to mark important items.

Just spoke to the doctor about the follow-up blood test that I had yesterday - cant believe how quickly they came back. It was just over 24 hours.

Looks like the Januvia was doing its job!! My insulin level has dropped from 32.3 down to 24.2 - blood sugar was 5.9 now down to 5.7 - liver better - potassium better - cholestoral 4.5.

OK .... doctor cant give me a script as my blood tests dont meet the criteria. My Haemaglobin isnt in the range. So I have to see him in 3 months time and probably get another blood test. I said well .... I have been doing my hour walk every day - weight is the same - measurements are the same ..... he said it is going to happen!!! He then said he is going to send me to India .... a joke as he had an Indian patient in his office. I thought that maybe there was someone who could help me in India! The patient was in on the joke as well ... he thought it was funny.

Yes ... yes ... lots more veggies ... I know ....
