Hi Sue,

Thanks for patiently trying to explain to me.

You're right, I now remember that FO is degraded so quickly in people with ADHD, that they need a lot more in order to use the amount they actually need.

I didn't mean to pick the word "convert," I was speaking too casually or carelessly. You are right, FO isn't "converted." What it does is generate the "good" eicosanoids.

I guess I'm still missing a piece of the picture, as it seems like if you were getting "too many good eicosanoids" in the past, then you were getting enough to meet your own needs ... but you indicated your concerns re: your genes with respect to Alz's, etc., so you'd like to up the fish oil anyway to increase protection.

I'm guessing therre's some subtle but crucial difference there, but obviously if Barry Sears recommends it, you'd want to do it ...

Anyway I'm glad for you that you're able to increase your FO. To be honest I had thought to myself in the past, "Gee that would be nice if I only needed one tiny capsule every three days ..."!!!

Cuz it's a lot cheaper ...

Alexy

Well, Alexy brought up a good question, and I guess I don't really see the answer, either.

If you are producing good eicosanoids from a very small dose of fish oil, what is it that you are gaining by taking a larger amount?

Does it have to do with the SIP test results? Are they not optimal?

I guess if the test results ARE optimal, then there really would not be any point on improving things, because that is all one can do.

Hi Margaret!

Omega RX, great!

You'd require at least 2 teaspoons (5 grams) daily because of you high body fat%. It's still a good idea to check the dosing info in TOXIC FAT in case you have other conditions that would make your requirement higher. To get results, it’s very important to take the full dose you require. Also, fish oil a vasodilator. It's my understanding that the fact it normalizes high BP has been well documented in medical literature.

The symptoms I had were a pronounced spacey feeling that was so bad at times that I thought I might pass out a couple of times, a feeling of disorientation at times (like I couldn't focus; I was driving the first 2 times this happened!), and profound fatigue. They would begin about 45 minutes after taking the dose. They would reach their peak about 15 minutes later, remain that way for about 45 more min and then would begin to lessen. By another 1 to 1 1/2 hours they would be gone except for some minor fatigue that would continue to lessen until it was gone a couple of hours later.

Nice that you feel some relief from the tinnitus. I have tinnitus too. My eat specialists say it's most likely due to my hearing loss. I've have a substantial hearing loss in one ear since childhood. My tinnitus is a very high pitched noise, and sometimes I hear another pitch along with. It's not a fun thing, but I've somehow learned to tune it out a lot of the time, except when I think of it (like now, ha!).

Mine used to be around your higher one (mid to higher 160's over high 90's, on one occasion even well over 100!).

How are you doing with meals and snacks, and water drinking?

Think veggies and berries! :-)

I've been thinking about your situation, especially since you're now beginning fish oil (I consider this beginning on fish oil because I agree with the email expert about your previous brand). My idea is for you to give it your all for the next month. Instead of experimenting with foods for now(like the smoothie experiments) stick with the meals that work best, limit carb to 2 blocks in a 3 block meal, eat no unfavorable carb and limit fruit to a block or two of berries a day. Also keep the exercise at a moderate level to prevent excess cortisol production. Let yourself experience all the the Zone can really do for you. After a month you would be very solidly in the Zone and the fish oil would be doing its thing (it takes a full 30 days on at any particular dose to have the full results of what that dose will do for you.)

Go for it Margaret!

You can do it!

Oh, I almost forgot! I was going to mention the dosages of my various family members who take fish oil, just to show it's really as individual as the books say. My husband takes 8 caps daily (combo of Eico X and Omega RX capsules), my mom 12 caps daily, my cousin 12 caps daily, one of my daughter 4 caps daily, my cousin 12 caps, and my son 12 and more caps daily (he varies his dose; he's an ex pert on tweaking his dose, having been on a high dose for so long).

Hi Sue

Thanks for the dosage info on the fish oil. I havent started yet as I have to ring the supplier to see if he had some bars that he had run out of a few weeks ago. Should get the order by Friday. Looking forward to seeing how I go with the fish oil.

Your symptoms dont sound good with the fish oil. I wonder if there was something else that might have contributed to the dizziness. My new blood pressure tablets are doing that to me a little. I have to make sure I dont bend down or turn too quickly as I get a dizzy feeling.

I was the same as you with the tinnitus - learnt to live with it but it does really seem to be less noisey so hopefully it is the tablets helping.

Water drinking - I am trying - I never get the whole 8 glasses in. Snacks I am pretty good. Usually have a half Zone bar, milk with cocoa, tofu pudding (yum), cheese and fruit.

Yes - am always thinking veggies and berries! ha ha

I am happy with my smoothies now - that was a drama wasnt it! it was definetly the protein powder - wasnt having enough. Smoothies are mainly made with stawberries - sometimes raspberries or blueberries.

For my main meals I am having 3 protein - 2 carbs and 3-5 fats.

I cant believe that your son is taking 12 fish oil tablets!!! I cant even swallow one ....

Off to bed now - bit late - talk to you later

Hi Margaret!

My doctor, Dr. Sears, and I all are sure the my symptoms were from the fish oil (FO). Although the symptoms I mentioned are often experienced by people with dizziness, in my case there was no dizziness involved. The 2 BP meds I was on at the time are ones I had been taking for many years prior to the onset of these symptoms. The symptoms happened when I began Omega RX would always begin about 45 min after taking it, and would happen each and every time I would take in on two consecutive days, until we stretched out the timing to every 3 days. Also, as we tweaked the dose, Dr. Sears would have me go 3 weeks with no FO, to let my it fully deplete from my, before trying a different timing. At the time Dr. Sears had also worked with another individual who was not able to take very much FO. The Addition of GLA (in Eico Rx) did the trick for me. I forgot to include in my last post that even my 86 yr old mother-in-law takes Eico Rx!

The dizziness you're feel gin from the BP med is most likely because your when you bend, move, etc., your BP is not rising as high as it used to. It doesn't necessarily mean that you BP is too low, but rather that different than what your body is used to.

Got to drink the water Margaret! \:-) Some people I've helped, who were stumped as to why they weren't losing stored fat while eating an appropriate Zone balanced diet, turned it around and steadily lost their stored fat just by drinking a lot more water.

Am I correct when I assume you are losing your stored fat now?

A tip, you'll probably do even better by changing the milk and the berry smoothies to solid food that includes some veggies.

Another tip, keeping fruit to 1 block a day doesn't mean you are only able to eat fruit once a day. For example, you could eat 1/3 cup of strawberries 3 times a day, or 1/2 cup of strawberries twice a day, or simply garnish a couple of your meals with a few berries while easing off on a bit of the rest of the C in your meal.

How was the tea you organized?

Keep us updated!

Hi Sue

My 85 year old mother also takes the fish oil. There are not many people I know who are not taking it! I rang my contact and he said the order should be at my house today and if not definetly tomorrow.

Dizziness is so much better today - maybe it was just my body adjusting to it. Actually I can feel a calmness in myself. Obviously the other medication wasnt doing its job.

I know about the water but just have to be aware that I should be drinking it. At work I have a 1.5 litre bottle of water on my desk and also a 600 ml bottle. At dinner time we have plain or mineral water. I cant believe I have kicked the Diet Coke habit.

No - not loosing stored fat or anything else (joke). My weight and waist measurements are the same. Let me correct that - I have kept off the 4.4 lbs that I have lost since December. I do feel like I have lost around my neck and a few other places but the scales - nothing. Maybe the insulin tablets will kick in soon.

Smoothies are easier for me in the mornings as I have breakfast at my desk. I have had the occasional omelette. I dont mind making it the night before but smoothies are an easy option. I have one cup of strawberries in the smoothies.

Everyone enjoyed afternoon tea. There were no strawberries with dipped chocolates which was a shame (shop didnt have any nice ones). My lunch really filled me up so I wasnt that hungry to be wanting to eat anything bad. What I had wasnt Zone friedly but I thought it wasnt too bad. I just had a handful of corn chips and dip (maybe one tablespoon) and 2 jelly beans. There were cakes and sausage rolls but I didnt touch any of it. I had to race off at 4pm for the gym. I am ok with what I had. I think if I had been hungry I would have had the cheese, fruit and nuts.

My husband paints oil landscapes and won a $100 voucher for dinner. We are going to use it tonight (well not all of it - we can use is as many times till it reaches the limit). I always have the Zone guidelines in the back of my head so will make good choices!

Hi CC

The dinner was very nice thank you. The voucher was for a nominated restaurant. We had been there once before when he won accommodation at the adjoining motel. We were told when we got there that we had to spend the $100 only on that night! When I think about it the meal wasnt that bad Zone wise.

We had entre, main, and drinks. The waistress added up the total and we had $10 left so we ordered ice cream with topping. There was also a cheesecake as well but didnt even consider that. There was salad/veggies and our protein was meat and chicken so all in all it was good.

Guess it isn't that hard to run up a $100 bill on dinner at a nice restaurant!

But, these kinds of places are also the ones that are the most accommodating, they have many more options that are zone favorable.

Glad it went well!

Dr. Barry Sears, PhD.Dr. Barry Sears is a leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal response. A former research scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Sears has dedicated his research efforts over the past 30 years to the study of lipids. He holds 13 U.S. Patents in the areas of intravenous drug delivery systems and hormonal regulation for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

A turning point in his research occurred in 1982. That year, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded for discoveries of the role that specialized hormones, known as eicosanoids, play in the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, and cancer. Since eicosanoids are only generated from dietary fat, Dr. Sears reasoned that one could apply intravenous drug delivery principles to nutrition in order to control these exceptionally powerful hormonal responses with laser-like precision. In essence, his approach treats food as if it were a drug.

This area of his research led to various patents in the area of hormonal control by essentially using food as an oral drug delivery system to modulate eicosanoids especially for cardiovascular, diabetic, and neurological patients.

The impact of Dr. Sears’ revolutionary work in the dietary control of hormonal response began with the publication of his landmark book, The Zone. Since its publication in June 1995, The Zone has sold more than 2,000,000 hardcover copies, and became a #1 best seller on the New York Times book list. In addition, The Zone has been translated into 22 languages indicating a worldwide response to Dr. Sears’ research. His second book, Mastering the Zone, published in 1997, also became a New York Times bestseller with hardcover sales in excess of 500,000 copies to date. His third book, Zone Perfect Meals in Minutes, published in 1997, quickly became one of the best-selling cookbooks of 1997 and an another New York Times bestseller. The Anti-Aging Zone was published in 1999 and provides the molecular insights into how the Zone Diet can reverse the aging process. The Omega Rx Zone, published in 2002, explores the molecular foundation of chronic disease and how high-dose fish oil can dramatically reverse it. His latest book The Anti-Inflammation Zone discusses how to combat silent inflammation in order to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, and many other inflammatory conditions—and how to reverse these conditions if they are already present. To date more than 5 million hardcover copies of his Zone books have been sold in the United States.

His research has elevated food from more than simply a source of calories to being recognized as an exceptionally powerful drug. Because of his revolutionary research, Dr. Sears has been a frequent guest on many national programs such as 20/20, Today, Good Morning America, CBS Morning News, CNN, and MSNBC.

Dr. Sears continues his ongoing research as President of Zone Labs, a biotechnology company in Danvers, MA as well as the President of the non-profit Inflammation Research Foundation in Marblehead, MA. In addition to continuing research on the hormonal effects of food, Dr. Sears has expanded his research in developing innovative dietary approaches to treating cancer and neurological conditions, as well as his on-going work in treating cardiovascular diease and type 2 diabetes.

I have been taking the Fish Oil for over 3 years now. I am 44 playing hockey and working out. The Fish oil helps with the pain that I get from playing hockey. It greatly enhances my performance on the ice and while working out. I have noticed a big difference in my energy, attentiveness and memory. If I miss a day for whatever reason, I notice a huge difference and it feels like something is missing. Anyway that is my short little story and it comes from the heart.

– Carter B.

I am a nutritionist and Ph.D. doctor of health and nutrition. For Dr. Sears to figure out balancing fat, carbs and protein, is really beyond brilliant. It is a milestone in diet history. I go over people's diet/emotional journals. Mostly all the time, we discover that the fatigue, irritability, unstable emotions were due to the imbalance in their diet. Using the Zone to balance them out, helps control weight, roller coaster emotions and gives them energy. Dr. Sears is so right when he says food is medicine. He has figured out the most powerful drug combination going, called The Zone.
Best and healthy wishes,

– Elaine W., Ph.D., N.C., M.A.

I have a very exhausting job as a flight attendant. I read the "Omega Rx Zone" about 4 years ago and started taking the fish oil. I am 47 and have been flying for 22 years. I am very active, I run and lift weights. But combining lack of regular sleep, a physically demanding job, and irregular eating patterns this job takes a toll on the body. Since taking the fish oil, I have noticed that I do not get exhausted. I get tired, but not exhausted. I stopped taking it for a couple of months and then started taking another company's fish oil. I started getting exhausted again. I came back to Zone Labs and will continue with the fish oil for the rest of my life. I believe in the product and it makes a huge difference in my life. It makes a difference with my running as well. I also bring the bars and shakes with me on the road. It is almost impossible to eat the way I should at work. I haven't found the right secret. At least I have my Zone fish oil, bars, and shakes.

– Kathryn S.

I have been in the Zone, for about 1 month now. I wanted to share with you how wonderful I think this program is. I have been a personal trainer for almost 10 years and actively compete in numerous athletic activities. The Zone program has helped me to achieve a better awareness of my nutritional needs and the results I have seen are amazing! I have lost nearly 13 lbs since I have been in the Zone. I feel more mentally alert, more focused at work, have greater intensity during my training, have made significant strength gains, and just feel better over all. With that said, I would like to thank you for helping me in my quest for "super-health"!
Thank you!

– Rob Y.

I read 'The Zone' and as exactly as I could followed the advice for diet. I noted weight loss progress. Over six months, I lost 33 pounds. One year has passed since then. I have maintained the new weight, guided always by Zone concepts. The Zone is powerful - I have found it fantastic and I am very grateful to Dr Sears.

– Lyn S.

Before I stumbled across the Zone I was weighing close to two hundred pounds and I was depressed. I used to be a gymnast as a young man. I would think, "look at me now," when I looked in a mirror. The day I found 'The Zone' book, I was intrigued and as I read it the science made sense and so, I began to follow the "treatment". I began to lose weight and I was feeling way more energetic. I am forty two years old, I am very active and my weight is down to 162 lbs, 38 pounds lost on the Zone. I cycle, walk, jog, swim and I can now perform some of the more simple gymnastic skills I did twenty years ago...I literally feel like I have turned back the clock.
Thank you!

– Jack J.

I have been on the Zone diet for 7 years. I did not go on the diet to lose weight necessarily; but fairly quickly I lost 25 pounds, going from 190 to 165; from a 36-inch waist to a 32-inch waist. I primarily did the Zone to live healthier. My health is excellent now. I just turned 62 years old. My Zone is my eating lifestyle now; I seldom stray; and I do not miss anything. It is The Good Life.

– Curtis Y.

My wife's doctor told her to read "Enter the Zone" and to do the diet, so I told her I would do it with her. After only one week on the plan we went on a strenuous hike (the first of the year), and when we stopped at our favorite coffee shop on the way home I was able to get out of the car and stand upright and walk into the place without pain or stiffness. The Zone had eliminated all the inflammation that had always forced me to stumble all humped over into the coffee shop any time we skied or hiked all day.
Thank you, Doctor Sears.

– Larry C.

I used to have a lot of knee pain when I walked or ran. I have been taking Omega Rx for almost a year now, and rarely have any pain. I believe it is the anti-inflammation action of the oil. I feel smarter as well. Thanks for developing such a superior oil!

– Joe W.

Prior to following the Zone Diet, my body fat was around 15% and my weight around 153 pounds. No matter what I did, my weight and body fat did not change much. I regularly cycled 20-30 hours per week logging well over 400 miles. That had little impact on body fat or weight. Diet also seemed to have little impact on body fat or weight. Within a couple of months of following the zone diet, my weight dropped rather quickly to 142 pounds and body fat to about 8%. I still regularly cycle up to 20 hours per week (during the summer). I have also started strength training. I eat about 16 blocks per day. I take 3.6 grams of fish oil per day, along with Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoic Acid, CoQ10, and B & C vitamins. I also take GLA, which in my opinion, has significantly reduced fatigue and improved recovery times after exercise.

– Jeremy S.

All polyphenols have antioxidant properties than can be measured by their Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC), but not all polyphenols have anti-inflammatory properties. The polyphenols in Dr. Sears’ Zone Polyphenol Plus have been carefully chosen to have both.

Polyphenols are the phytochemicals that not only give fruits and vegetables their color, but also help regulate inflammation. In addition, polyphenols also activate the key enzyme (AMP kinase) that helps restore cellular ATP levels. Polyphenols also help regulate the activation of inducible inflammatory proteins (such as COX-2 and inflammatory cytokines).

There are more than 4,000 known polyphenols, and the richest sources are fruits and vegetables. In general, the more color a fruit or vegetable has, the richer the polyphenol content.

A recommended serving of Zone Labs Ultra-Refined Concentrates delivers 8 times more omega-3’s than a typical retail fish oil supplement.

Most fish oil supplements have 30% or less of the healthy omega-3s EPA and DHA, with the remaining 70% of the capsule containing unbeneficial, lesser refined fatty acids that contribute to their bad taste and gastric side effects.

Getting a clinically valid dose of omega-3’s is easy with Zone Labs’ Ultra-Refined Omega-3 Concentrates.
