what about coconut oil?
its the only oil that doesn't change chemical structure when heated....isn't it best to consume good oils raw, eg. sesame oil, olive oil? |

Hi! Here are two comments by Dr Sears abotu coconut oil, taken from Drsears.com <<<<Coconut oil - Relevance: 1007 Q: Dear Dr. Sears, I understand that we should try to balance the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in our diets. I also understand that monounsaturated oil is beneficial presumably because it does not contain either of these two fatty acids. What about coconut oil? It too does not contain either of these fatty acids. People who rely on coconut oil have a low incidence of heart and other major degenerative diseases. A: Coconut oil is rich in saturated fat, and eventually much of it is in the form of shorter-chain fatty acids that can increase LDL cholesterol levels. It is much lower in monounsaturated fat than many of the oils that I recommend. But as with all oils, it can be used in moderation since it contains very little if any Omega-6 fatty acids. http://drsears.com/SearchIndexer/tabid/467/itemid/9026/Default.aspx - 8/24/2007 11:32:33 AM 2 Coconut oil - Relevance: 1007 Q: Dear Dr. Sears, What is you opinion on coconut oil? In the tropics where I live people say it is healthy. Thanks, Mercedes S. A: Dear Mercedes, Coconut oil is rich in tocotrienols, which have significant anti-oxidative potential, but it is composed of saturated fats. Many of those saturated fats consist of short-chain fatty acids that go directly to the liver via the portal vein and rapidly consume stores of liver glycogen. Without adequate levels of liver glycogen, it is difficult to replenish blood sugar levels for optimal brain function and satiety. You will get a far more powerful anti-oxidant effect by consuming extra-virgin olive oil. Coconut oil can be used in moderation since it contains very little, if any, omega-6 fatty acids. http://drsears.com/SearchIndexer/tabid/467/itemid/10120/Default.aspx - 8/24/2007 11:33:24 AM >>> |

Well, I know that my gripe is a bit untimely, but obviously, I had posted a comment to "someone" here, after reading a post, and that "someone" deleted his/her post. That is really irritating, because the last comment that I posted makes no sense to me at all. Obviously, if the "one who shall not be named" hadn't deleted his/her post, then it would make more sense. |
