An interesting NYTimes article says: "the ratio between omega-3s and omega-6s may matter more than the absolute quantity of either fat."

Do you concur? Can you suggest how to know my family is getting the right ratio?

Here's the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/28/magazine/28nutritionism.t.html

Not to sound too simplistic, but the best way I know of is to follow the Zone diet and supplement with Zone Labs FO poducts.

What matters is the omega-6/omega-3 ratio in the cells and the balance of eicosanoids produced. This can be influenced not only by the ratios of dietary fats consumed, but also dietary glycemic load, exercise, intake of micronutrients. Without having lipids analyzed, following the Zone Diet with omega-3 fatty acids and a sensible exercise program is ensures you are taking the rights steps to achieve a favorable eicosanoid balance (as Sue mentions). The only way to know for sure is through fatty acid analysis (AA/EPA test)
