Hi, I have a quick question regarding the string cheese.... I always thought that reading "low moisture, part skim mozarella cheese" meant "low fat", it wasn't until last week that I actually read the nutrition fact and what was my surprise when I read 6 grams of fat per piece...I paniced since these are my one of my favorite quick to grab snacks. I even actually added the 3 olives for the fat on my snack : ( Well, I stopped eating the olives but I am still uncomfortable on having 6 grams of fat instead of 3. I would love to hear any comments whether on just avoid the string of chees or not.....This is my week 5 zoning, feeling great and little but steady good results : )

I love 'String Cheese' as a snack. How I handle it is when I have yogurt and black olives as a snack, I use fatfree Yogurt, instead of lowfat yogurt...this makes up for the increased fat in string cheese. I believe in doing the overall plan of Zone Diet.... using common sense...not PERFECTIONISM. Perfectionism will take you away from your goals, not towards them. 'String cheese' and lowfat yogurt plus black olives are part of my weekly intake of snacks. Since they are my favorite foods I believe they balance each other out. I also know that if you eliminate your favorite REAL FOODS, you will lose interest in ZONING. You simply must take its excellent principles, do the work, and make it yours!! We are all so unique. What works for one may or may not work for another. There are so MANY RIGHT CHOICES. Do the work to find yours! Don't give up!

Marie, don't sweat it over the fat in cheese.

I am sure that Sue will be coming to knock my advice, but cheese is a dairy product, and there is a reason why God put dairy fat into cheese. It is because it was meant to be there.

Dairy products contain the fat so that the body can digest the product and absorb the nutrients. Removing the fat will just result in problems with digestion and absorption.

If you enjoy cheese, there is no reason why you should eliminate it.

Hi D!

Note that 1 block of yogurt is both 1P and 1C. If you're adding a block of string cheese to a block of yogurt in that snack, you've got 2P.

D,

I totally agree with you on your views of "perfectionism".

I fell into that trap during my earlier years of zoning. I thought I had to get everything down to the tiniest fraction. When I ran into plateaus and struggled with progress, I turned to an expert on the forums here, working via email to resolve the issue. Well, every time I turned around, I felt as if I was failing because I had a little too much of this, too little of that, etc. And, geez, if I even had a little bit of unfavorable carb, I thought the world was going to implode upon itself!

Last year was probably my worst year, because I could not find that happy medium.

However, I have decided to take things in a few different directions and not sweat it too much. I realize now that I was NOT a failure at what I was trying to do, but I was just trying too hard to be perfect.

Sue, I don't have the yogurt and the cheese stick at the same snack time. I should have been more clear. During the course of a week, my snacks may include a cup of Fat Free plain yogurt with 2 or 3 black olives--- OR --- a cheese stick (string cheese) with half an apple, (or some other 1 block of fruit). With the size of these olives I could have 5 or 6 with the Fat Free yogurt, but I don't because of the fat in the cheese stick I will be eating at another snack time. This is working well for me.

We buy both low fat and fat free plain yogurt. Some weeks I may not care to eat as much cheese. Then I will use the LOW FAT yogurt still with the 2 to 3 black olives (or other, such as almonds) as the fat block. There are so many choices. I love yogurt and have come to prefer it over skim milk. Oh, and I realize that this cup of yogurt with olives is more than 1 block each of fat, protein and carbohydrate but the ratio is right. If I only want 1/2 cup of yogurt, I'll have only 1 olive. You get the picture.

Cranberrycat, yes, I got frustrated too when I first started and was 'trying too hard'. I took a step back and took the pressure off myself to learn it all at once. I would rather be happy for the progress I'm making rather than give it up because I can't 'do it right'. I feel so much better eating a balanced diet the Zone way even if I don't do it perfect.

Thank you for your input. I hope others find that 'happy medium' and have a good day/ life in the Zone!

Hi D!

Thanks for clarifying. :-)

Great that it works for you!

A tip, for the best Zone outcome, considering the whole picture, one would eat at least the minimum amount of fat needed for balance with the fat free yogurt (at least 2 added F blocks). Fat acts as a control rod (refer to Zone books) by slowing the entry of the carb eaten with it into the blood stream, allowing for the maximum insulin lowering. The fat eaten in a previous snack will no longer be in your stomach by the time of the second snack. For fat to do it's job of slowing the entry of carb into the blood stream and give the best insulin control, it has to be eaten with the P and C. Dr. Sears advises to be more liberal with fat use than to skimp on it.

Hi, Marie. As I just wrote elsewhere I started reading the Zone books about three years ago. I knew my blood sugar was not even... I was too tired sometimes, too jittery other times. My daughter said she had loved reading 'The Soy Zone' and thought I would enjoy it. Thus the adventure began!

I am in my 60's. I at first got the books from the library, then was so interested I wanted my own copies. I used my Border's 30%-40% off coupons to get my first Zone books. In the last three years I have learned alot, changed my eating habits, lost 20+ pounds, gone from 34% BMI to 24% BMI. I now am gluten intolerant, so have gone gluten free. Zone diet has helped me so much to not be overwhelmed by this. I had already eliminated so many over processed foods and switched over to fresh fruits, vegetables and lean protein.

Now I would like to be more fit and weigh 118#. I have a borderline small to medium frame. And I still have (what I call-"yickky, shakey something" on my abdomen) fat on my abdomen. Before I got pregant in my 20's (two times), I was 112# and then 115#, so I think 118# is an okay goal. Life is Good. Best Wishes!

03/05/09 P.S. Please see correction note above dated 03/05/09.

Marie, outside of the fact that I still have a fair amount of bodyfat, I still feel as if I am a success in the Zone. Losing the fat seems to come very slow for me, but that is ok. I started zoning to lose fat, and I have accomplished it to a point. I used to weigh in the 170's before I started, and I had lost about 30# while zoning. I would still like to lose another 20 or so.

What is more important to me is to keep myself healthy. I am at risk for developing diabetes, since I had gestational diabetes for all of my pregnancies. And, there is hypertension, high cholesterol, and heart disease in my family history, but my BP runs fairly low, and my last cholesterol panel was excellent. So, I feel that the Zone has kept me from falling into the category of "chronic disease".

Hi CC and D, thanks thanks thanks for sharing your stories as I said I loved to read them beacuse they get me motivated..... I have read almost all of the zone books since a couple of years ago but I just couldn't get my self to follow it. I have a large frame I am 5'7" and had always been in between 170-190 my lowest was 145 about 6 years ago followiing a diet with a nutritionist but mannnn it was mainly carbs a little protein...al least I learn a little more about eatinghabits though they weren't the correct ones...I couldn't maintain that weight I started gainning all back a little up to a point where I was back to 185 ...the n I was getting married (04) so I went to CURVES bought the book and follow to a T the diet at leat for the firt 3 weeks....welll I have to say that their diet back then ( because it has changed) it was very close to the zone ( ean protein, eating 6x daily, lots and lots of veggies but no fruits other than strawberries and apples some times).... I lost 20# but I looked amaizing and now that I read the Zone I now that what I lost was fat and eventhough I didn't get my weight down to tha 150's I looked, healthy, lean and strong...well little by little I got the weight back up to 185-195... my biggest mistake was to listen to friends to follow WEIGHT WATCHERS and I say that it was my biggest mistake because with the CUrves plan I leand to eat lots of veggies and lean protein but no bread and all of those things.....well I got hooked to the thing of WW that you could eat everything as long as I kept within points, that means that I started to eat lots of bread, candies, cakes, icecream so that's when I lost control beacuse as it explains in the zone the more that I eat them the more that I wanted them so at the beginning I stayed with in points but then I just eat more and more...until I got pregnant with an un-healthy weight of 195#... I gained about 50# I just didn't know how to eat right and kept trying to do the points system of WW.
After having my baby I tryied to loose by my self but couldn't do it so I joined WW (AGAINNNNNN!!!) I lost about 20# but I was so frustated becuase eventhough that the scale showed a lost in #'s my body wasn't changing I wasn't loosing the fat where I wanted ......... I lost those punds and gained them back I just realized that I was eating TOOOOOOOO many carbs and that it wasn't working for me, so I tried the South Beach you loose but not eating fruit was so difficult to stay on it, and as soon as I introduce it to my dait I gained all the punds back in a matter of a week or 2..........
My baby was the more than 1 year and me the heaviest that I have been in my entire life ......... then I remember the Zone diet and started doing more research buying the new books the antiinflammatory , then a little ago the toxic fat.... and more that I read it the more that it made sense to me........ I couldn't believed how wrong i was, how could I fall into thinking that a WW system eating all that food was healthy for me...I just felt hungry ALL the time, and obviously frustated.... the bad bad myth on fat, I would exclude all fat from my diet... oh well I was doing everything the opposite. I though if I just knew, I would've have a healthy weight gain during my pregnancy and I would've lost all that fat right away after giving birth....
Well sorry this was too long I just wanted to share.... This Sunday I complete 5 weeks in the ZOne I feel so so greatful, so happy and so motivaded. I can't believe that I do not feel hungry anymore so I can always make the right food chices eventhough if I am eating out. Also feel sohappy that I am doing this noe (I am 32) and not later with all of those health problems that come with being overweight........ I have lost about 8#, but my fat% has gone down from 56% to 49%. I can barely feel it with my clothe, they fitl just a little better but I know that I am on the right track and that little by little I will get a huge result. I just want to lose moreeeeeeeee beacuse I want to share it with all the people that I know, and not only for the weight loss but for the healthy side but I need to reflect that change first in other to start talking about it, otherwise they will say yeah right
Well thanks again for sharing and thanks thanks for taking the time to read this, I will keep u posted on my progress..........I just want every bodyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to open their eyes to the unhealthy way of eating that we have (well not me anymore). Have a wonderful day!!!!!

Wow! Thanks for sharing your story, as well!

I do the Curves workout, and I also have the diet book. I took their class last year, and I was impressed that they try to help you determine your level of carb sensitivity (although I already knew), so that most members were following a diet consistent with their metabolism. And, the recipes in the book are easily zone-able.

I found it! I posted it about a year ago. Here's the post, and also the address of the thread where you can find it:

http://www.zonediet.com/Community/Forums/tabid/121/view/topic/forumid/2/postid/22514/Default.aspx

Hi Matt,

Where do I start? You'll see what I mean as you read on. As you know from my signature, I've been very successful with the Zone diet and lifestyle, but the success with weight loss and blood pressure control is merely the tip of the iceberg regarding what I consider the Zone has done for me. It's gotten me through a lot of difficult health "glitches" in the past 8 years. Here's where I start to hesitate, not wanting to sound like I'm bragging, complaining, or whatever. What I'd like to do is relate what I've been through in the hopes it can help someone who might be reading this.

The long time zoners in these forums know my story, since I've posted about it as it's happened through the yrs, but for the newer people, here goes. I’ll try not to get to long, but there’s a lot to mention. A little over 8 yrs ago, having successfully been in the Zone for almost 5 years, and having become a runner (from being a former 200+++ pound couch potato), I suffered a lower back injury when twisting to get out of the car that was parked up too close to a tree. The recovery entailed many months of pain, PT, and inactivity. Fortunately The Zone diet got me through it with no weight gain, and by a year later when I was beginning to resume running again, I was rear-ended by another car, while stopped at a red light. I suffered a concussion, and they did a CT of my head. Luckily, it was ok, except for one finding, unexpected and unrelated to the accident. The finding...I had a brain tumor! It was benign, and fortunately it was operable (position of the tumor determines if it is operable). It was successfully removed a month later. During that long recovery, even with the Zone diet, I didn't fare as well weight wise. Too many factors, like drugs, inactivity, the physical trauma of brain surgery, etc, and my body went a little haywire. Even though I ate mostly in the Zone, I gained about 15 pounds in the first two mos post surgery.

About 6 mos later was when Barry Sears came into the picture, offering to personally help me after I 'd made and inquiry about fish oil on Dr sears.com, a story for another day. Oh, and BTW, he's never pushed his supplements to me, and, in fact, he's never even mentioned them on the many occasions when we've spoken (you had mentioned level 5 in the pyramid. Back to my story. 6 mos post surgery, and still eating in the Zone and getting back to exercise, my weight held still, not budging at all. Barry advised me to stick with the diet as I'd been doing, explaining that when the body is healing from major physical trauma it sometimes won't release any fat, trying to keep the status quo to enable it to heal. He was right, because by the end of the first yr post-op I'd begun to lose the fat again. But all was about to change again.

This could get long, so for the sake of brevity, I'll kind of do a timeline...

18 mos after brain surgery, I had 1/3 of my eyelid removed and reconstructed (basal cell cancer)

With the stitches still in my eyelid, I found myself having a breast biopsy just one week later, the result... breast cancer.

One month later, one breast mastectomy with reconstruction.

Due to a rare internal scar tissue complication, an ensuing implant rupture, and a couple other things, I ended up having about 9 reconstructive surgeries in all over the next 3 1/2 years (but no more breast cancer, yeah!). the final reconstruction was done with a latissimus dorsi flap (muscle, skin and other tissue taken from my back, and an additional skin graft).

And also during those 3 1/2 years, I lost another 1/3 of the same eyelid to basal cell recurrence, had the eyelid reconstructed and also had melanoma (thank goodness, an early stage). My genes were certainly expressing themselves!

I had another major surgery last year, the culmination of 6 mos of unexplained abdominal and flank pain (and a couple mos of difficult screening procedures, and 2 screening surgeries, to diagnose). Turned out I had a congenital kidney related anomaly, a sort of "plumbing problem" which is usually found in infants, but with me didn’t show up until I was in my 50's. A year ago January, I had 5 hours of successful kidney surgery to correct the problem and to reconstruct a portion of my kidney. (I'm 55, will be 56 in June. Coincidentally, Barry Sears and I have the same birthday!)

Last June I had an exercise accident, a sort of whiplash (head and neck injury) which resulted in the immediate onset of a form of vertigo…in my case being off balance with constant motion sickness (with nausea) 24/7. It's been another fun year of tons of vestibular screenings, tons of imaging (MRI, MRA, CT's) vestibular PT and cranio-sacral PT. I'm now under the care of doctors at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, a Harvard teaching hospital (docs here in CT finally sent me there). It was thought for a time that I had permanent brainstem damage, but that is now mostly ruled out. I'm beginning to see light at the end of this tunnel. :-)

With all those surgeries and injuries, I'd gain 10 to 15 lbs during the initial post-op period, hold onto it, lose it, and regain my previous fitness level and ability just in time to have the next surgery and do it all over again. I never did get back into running, chose not to. Once again, I’ve gotten almost completely back to my skinny self, thanks to the Zone! The Zone has been my one constant throughout the adversity of the last 8 years. It's helped me recover well, stay healthy throughout, and has never let me down. I literally don't know where I'd be without it.

I neglected to mention that 4 years ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroid (runs in my family). My endocrinologist said I'm doing a good job, because a person with my thyroid concerns is typically very overweight, not at a normal weight as I am.

Enough about me.

Have a great weekend, and let us know how you do with the fish oil!

Hi Sue, thanks for looking up your thread and wowwwwwwwwwwww you left me speechless.... you are such an example not only to the zone but to life on not giving up!!!! They say that everything always happend for a reason and I am sure that your experience is helping others overcome the little (compared to yours) bumps that we (I include my self) have. Since this is through a computer I can't do it inperson, but I send you a ciber huge I'll tell you something that happen on Saturday while me, my husband and my little one where having breakfast. Somewhere in between our meal I heard what the family on both next to ours was talking about (a mother, father and a 17th year old girl). It catch my attention because she said "I do not want to die, I will get diabetes anyway, and thing about her just giving up". Then the father trying to make her change her negative attitude giving her examples such as "we all die one day, I can even be healthy and go out the door right now a be hit by a car and die", and that even with this hard times with the economy that he tries to find the positive side etc... well, the thing is that I felt sooooo sad for her. It seemed that she was just diagnosed with something life-threating. But I couldn't stand her negative attitude I just wanted to talk to her and share one of the different books that I have read on positive thinking, I even wanted to tell her to go the zone website and read on the community forums tons and tons of examples of how a good eating habit can do a miracle in your self. Well, I didn't of course but I felt sad, then they were leaving but the mother went to the bath room I just couldn't stop me self and went also and I told her first sorry that I didn't mean to listen but to give her daughter lost of help so that she could change her state of mind to a positive one and with her I did give her a hug I couldn't say more because I was about to cry with her.... I am so emottional it seemed tha I knew her .

Well, I just wanted to share, and Sue I admire you!

Thanks CC and Janet for your replies... and CC are still going to Curves???

Marie, yes I am still going to Curves.

I took a hiatus from it last May, and then I thought I would just do power walking at home during the summer. When autumn came, I never got back on the bandwagon, and so I didn't get restarted at Curves until January!

But, what a difference it makes!

What a sad story about that girl...I hope you helped to make a difference in her life. We all need angels from time to time.

Hi Marie!

Thanks so much for the kind words the big hug. :-) I'm happy to know that others find inspiration from my experiences. My intention in sharing my personal info is to help others who might be in similar situations. When things like that happen, somehow I rise to the occasion and try to do whatever I need to do. It's not easy, and I'm not quite sure how I do it. It's instinctive on my part. Hopefully no more things like that will happen to me! It's even kind of mind boggling to me when I think back on all of it. You learn to take it one day at time. :-)

I can relate to how you felt overhearing the conversation and not being in a position to offer help. So many times I've been in a similar situation, knowing how much the Zone could help a person, yet not being in a position to offer them information. The teenager might also have been immersed in the initial emotional stages of just having received a serious diagnosis. Hopefully she can eventually find her way to a more positive outlook and develop a more proactive way of dealing with it.

Thanks again Marie!

Hi Sue and CC, well hopefully within time more and more people will know about the zone and make the change. I am from Mexico and I can not wait to buy the new book that gor release there "Mexico entra en la zona" and hopefully soon I can get major changes in my self so that I can start getting family and friends to follow it. I which there was a forum as big as this but in spanish

Sue again I you are an inspiration!!!!! and CC I can not wait to join Curves gain, for me it's the easiest way to get the strengh trainning needed in just 3o minutes, at home sometime I do it sometimes I don't. One thing that I do not understand is that back in 2004 when I joined and follow the diet it was as I said very close to the zone, lots of veggies and lean protein. The I went back on 2006 and the had a "new type of plans" all of them were very high on carbs since they have now their brand they were trying to implement them (cereals, bars). It catch my attention since what I read before about too many carbs on the book made soo much sense.

Ladies thanks for everyhting that you do on this forum I love it!!! Have a wonderful day!

Dr. Barry Sears, PhD.Dr. Barry Sears is a leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal response. A former research scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Sears has dedicated his research efforts over the past 30 years to the study of lipids. He holds 13 U.S. Patents in the areas of intravenous drug delivery systems and hormonal regulation for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

A turning point in his research occurred in 1982. That year, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded for discoveries of the role that specialized hormones, known as eicosanoids, play in the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, and cancer. Since eicosanoids are only generated from dietary fat, Dr. Sears reasoned that one could apply intravenous drug delivery principles to nutrition in order to control these exceptionally powerful hormonal responses with laser-like precision. In essence, his approach treats food as if it were a drug.

This area of his research led to various patents in the area of hormonal control by essentially using food as an oral drug delivery system to modulate eicosanoids especially for cardiovascular, diabetic, and neurological patients.

The impact of Dr. Sears’ revolutionary work in the dietary control of hormonal response began with the publication of his landmark book, The Zone. Since its publication in June 1995, The Zone has sold more than 2,000,000 hardcover copies, and became a #1 best seller on the New York Times book list. In addition, The Zone has been translated into 22 languages indicating a worldwide response to Dr. Sears’ research. His second book, Mastering the Zone, published in 1997, also became a New York Times bestseller with hardcover sales in excess of 500,000 copies to date. His third book, Zone Perfect Meals in Minutes, published in 1997, quickly became one of the best-selling cookbooks of 1997 and an another New York Times bestseller. The Anti-Aging Zone was published in 1999 and provides the molecular insights into how the Zone Diet can reverse the aging process. The Omega Rx Zone, published in 2002, explores the molecular foundation of chronic disease and how high-dose fish oil can dramatically reverse it. His latest book The Anti-Inflammation Zone discusses how to combat silent inflammation in order to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, and many other inflammatory conditions—and how to reverse these conditions if they are already present. To date more than 5 million hardcover copies of his Zone books have been sold in the United States.

His research has elevated food from more than simply a source of calories to being recognized as an exceptionally powerful drug. Because of his revolutionary research, Dr. Sears has been a frequent guest on many national programs such as 20/20, Today, Good Morning America, CBS Morning News, CNN, and MSNBC.

Dr. Sears continues his ongoing research as President of Zone Labs, a biotechnology company in Danvers, MA as well as the President of the non-profit Inflammation Research Foundation in Marblehead, MA. In addition to continuing research on the hormonal effects of food, Dr. Sears has expanded his research in developing innovative dietary approaches to treating cancer and neurological conditions, as well as his on-going work in treating cardiovascular diease and type 2 diabetes.

It greatly enhances my performance on the ice and while working out. I have noticed a big difference in my energy, attentiveness and memory. If I miss a day for whatever reason, I notice a huge difference and it feels like something is missing. Anyway that is my short little story and it comes from the heart.

I am a nutritionist and Ph.D. doctor of health and nutrition. For Dr. Sears to figure out balancing fat, carbs and protein, is really beyond brilliant. It is a milestone in diet history. I go over people's diet/emotional journals. Mostly all the time, we discover that the fatigue, irritability, unstable emotions were due to the imbalance in their diet. Using the Zone to balance them out, helps control weight, roller coaster emotions and gives them energy. Dr. Sears is so right when he says food is medicine. He has figured out the most powerful drug combination going, called The Zone.
Best and healthy wishes,

– Elaine W., Ph.D., N.C., M.A.

I have a very exhausting job as a flight attendant. I read the "Omega Rx Zone" about 4 years ago and started taking the fish oil. I am 47 and have been flying for 22 years. I am very active, I run and lift weights. But combining lack of regular sleep, a physically demanding job, and irregular eating patterns this job takes a toll on the body. Since taking the fish oil, I have noticed that I do not get exhausted. I get tired, but not exhausted. I stopped taking it for a couple of months and then started taking another company's fish oil. I started getting exhausted again. I came back to Zone Labs and will continue with the fish oil for the rest of my life. I believe in the product and it makes a huge difference in my life. It makes a difference with my running as well. I also bring the bars and shakes with me on the road. It is almost impossible to eat the way I should at work. I haven't found the right secret. At least I have my Zone fish oil, bars, and shakes.

I have been in the Zone, for about 1 month now. I wanted to share with you how wonderful I think this program is. I have been a personal trainer for almost 10 years and actively compete in numerous athletic activities. The Zone program has helped me to achieve a better awareness of my nutritional needs and the results I have seen are amazing! I have lost nearly 13 lbs since I have been in the Zone. I feel more mentally alert, more focused at work, have greater intensity during my training, have made significant strength gains, and just feel better over all. With that said, I would like to thank you for helping me in my quest for "super-health"!
Thank you!

I read 'The Zone' and as exactly as I could followed the advice for diet. I noted weight loss progress. Over six months, I lost 33 pounds. One year has passed since then. I have maintained the new weight, guided always by Zone concepts. The Zone is powerful - I have found it fantastic and I am very grateful to Dr Sears.

Before I stumbled across the Zone I was weighing close to two hundred pounds and I was depressed. I used to be a gymnast as a young man. I would think, "look at me now," when I looked in a mirror. The day I found 'The Zone' book, I was intrigued and as I read it the science made sense and so, I began to follow the "treatment". I began to lose weight and I was feeling way more energetic. I am forty two years old, I am very active and my weight is down to 162 lbs, 38 pounds lost on the Zone. I cycle, walk, jog, swim and I can now perform some of the more simple gymnastic skills I did twenty years ago...I literally feel like I have turned back the clock.
Thank you!

I have been on the Zone diet for 7 years. I did not go on the diet to lose weight necessarily; but fairly quickly I lost 25 pounds, going from 190 to 165; from a 36-inch waist to a 32-inch waist. I primarily did the Zone to live healthier. My health is excellent now. I just turned 62 years old. My Zone is my eating lifestyle now; I seldom stray; and I do not miss anything. It is The Good Life.

My wife's doctor told her to read "Enter the Zone" and to do the diet, so I told her I would do it with her. After only one week on the plan we went on a strenuous hike (the first of the year), and when we stopped at our favorite coffee shop on the way home I was able to get out of the car and stand upright and walk into the place without pain or stiffness. The Zone had eliminated all the inflammation that had always forced me to stumble all humped over into the coffee shop any time we skied or hiked all day.
Thank you, Doctor Sears.

– Larry C.

I used to have a lot of knee pain when I walked or ran. I have been taking Omega Rx for almost a year now, and rarely have any pain. I believe it is the anti-inflammation action of the oil. I feel smarter as well. Thanks for developing such a superior oil!

Prior to following the Zone Diet, my body fat was around 15% and my weight around 153 pounds. No matter what I did, my weight and body fat did not change much. I regularly cycled 20-30 hours per week logging well over 400 miles. That had little impact on body fat or weight. Diet also seemed to have little impact on body fat or weight. Within a couple of months of following the zone diet, my weight dropped rather quickly to 142 pounds and body fat to about 8%. I still regularly cycle up to 20 hours per week (during the summer). I have also started strength training. I eat about 16 blocks per day. I take 3.6 grams of fish oil per day, along with Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoic Acid, CoQ10, and B & C vitamins. I also take GLA, which in my opinion, has significantly reduced fatigue and improved recovery times after exercise.

All polyphenols have antioxidant properties than can be measured by their Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC), but not all polyphenols have anti-inflammatory properties. The polyphenols in Dr. Sears’ Zone Polyphenol Plus have been carefully chosen to have both.

Polyphenols are the phytochemicals that not only give fruits and vegetables their color, but also help regulate inflammation. In addition, polyphenols also activate the key enzyme (AMP kinase) that helps restore cellular ATP levels. Polyphenols also help regulate the activation of inducible inflammatory proteins (such as COX-2 and inflammatory cytokines).

There are more than 4,000 known polyphenols, and the richest sources are fruits and vegetables. In general, the more color a fruit or vegetable has, the richer the polyphenol content.

  4. Preliminary Molecular Distillation – refining “touch up” to reduce contaminants
  5. Oil conversion to ethyl esters
  6. Ethyl ester thermal fractionation – remove additional saturated fats
  7. True Molecular Distillation – final refining to remove pcb’s and long-chain monoenes
  8. Rigid Processes – proprietary validation, inspection and encapsulation methods. Independent lab verification of IFOS requirements and certified 5 star rating

Clean Sources

No farmed fish. No large fish. Pristine waters.

Zone Labs starts with wild sardines & anchovies fished from cold, pristine waters off of South America where there are less environmental impurities.

A recommended serving of Zone Labs Ultra-Refined Concentrates delivers 8 times more omega-3’s than a typical retail fish oil supplement.

Most fish oil supplements have 30% or less of the healthy omega-3s EPA and DHA, with the remaining 70% of the capsule containing unbeneficial, lesser refined fatty acids that contribute to their bad taste and gastric side effects.

Getting a clinically valid dose of omega-3’s is easy with Zone Labs’ Ultra-Refined Omega-3 Concentrates.

Typical Retail Dose = 300mg omega-3

Standard Zone Dose = 2400mg omega-3
