Subject: Food allergies what to cook for breakfast???

Allergic to egg whites, oatmeal, soy, tuna, salmon, celery, bananas, peanut butter, pecans, beef, this is to name a few.

So does anyone have any ideas of what can be done for breakfast since so many recipes I find have eggwhites for omelets or oatmeal. I can do eggwhites about 2x a week, but no more than the equivalent of 2 eggs or I'll break out in hives.

Ugh!

Is cottage cheese on your list of good foods?

How about 3/4 cup cottage cheese, 1 1/2 cups blueberries, and some slivered almonds?

I enjoy a 1-block version of this for a snack. I use the frozen blueberries, and then thaw them right before eating.

Angie,

The recipes are suggestions only. You can build your own Zone balanced meals using low fat P, favorable C, and monounsaturated and F. It's not necessary to eat any of the items you mentioned in order to be in the Zone.

Guess I could try smoothies and yogurt based breakfast stuff. Just chew a lactaid, lol. I'm hoping some of my allergies clear up on this!!!

I really like breakfast items for breakfast, so trying to find stuff that is "normal" am things. I see turkey bacon on the list, I see 3 strips as favorable, 3 slices as fair???? Isn't 3 strips the same as 3 slices? (this is on the quick start quide page).

Yes strips and slices would be the same thing. The terms favorable and the fair designation means they are an acceptable choice, but not the best choice.

I don't know why it appears on both lists. It's an acceptable choice, but not one of the best Zone protein choices. It's typically made with dark meat and contains more fat, about 9 g fat per P block, than most low fat Zone protein choices, which contain about 1.5 g fat per P block.

Good eyes, Angela! At least we know you are paying attention-LOL!

Seriously, I never saw that error before, but probably because I don't usually eat any kind of bacon.

I wonder if the difference has to do with the amount of saturated fat? I am willing to go out on a limb and say that there are several varieties of turkey bacon, and I believe that the fat content will differ from product to product.

There's a brand (Al Fresco) of chicken apple sausage that I sometimes cook-with fresh apple slices for a treat breakfast..the treat is time. I don't have a package in the house but I think that they are 15g of P/link.
More often than not I eat cottage cheese and berries with almonds. Strawberries are in season here so I am tickled, but apple w/cinnamon is another good one with cottage cheese & almonds. Lean Canadian bacon could work for a traditional protein source. Applesauce with protein powder and almonds stirred together.

Even with your allergies, I'm sure you'll find a great breakfast or two. Don't feel you must have breakfast foods at breakfast. I'm a super picky eater and I can find plenty of options. I also have tried new things...I never would have eaten cottage cheese but now love it. Go figure.

Dr. Barry Sears, PhD.Dr. Barry Sears is a leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal response. I have a very exhausting job as a flight attendant. I read the "Omega Rx Zone" about 4 years ago and started taking the fish oil. I am 47 and have been flying for 22 years. I am very active, I run and lift weights. But combining lack of regular sleep, a physically demanding job, and irregular eating patterns this job takes a toll on the body. Since taking the fish oil, I have noticed that I do not get exhausted. I get tired, but not exhausted. I stopped taking it for a couple of months and then started taking another company's fish oil. My wife's doctor told her to read "Enter the Zone" and to do the diet, so I told her I would do it with her. Prior to following the Zone Diet, my body fat was around 15% and my weight around 153 pounds. No matter what I did, my weight and body fat did not change much. I regularly cycled 20-30 hours per week logging well over 400 miles. That had little impact on body fat or weight. Diet also seemed to have little impact on body fat or weight. Within a couple of months of following the zone diet, my weight dropped rather quickly to 142 pounds and body fat to about 8%. I still regularly cycle up to 20 hours per week (during the summer).
