#1) I was curious as to why 1% lowfat milk is only counted as 1P and 1C but not 1F? It has 2.5g of fat for 1 cup?

#2) Also, if I am gram counting, in the book "zone meals in seconds" it says "if you are using the gram method and calculating hidden fat, double the fat amount to 3 grams." Could someone clearify this for me. Thank you.

I am back in "the zone" and loving every bit of it! I did the zone about 6 years ago and lost about 25lbs., went down 3 dress sizes and felt amazing! I went to college, didn't follow the zone and gained everything back and more. Now I am back in "the zone" and staying there.

Hi Alyssa!

3 grams of fat are required for each fully balanced block of P, C and F. Half of that fat (1.5 g) is hidden in the low fat protein source. The other half of it (another 1.5 grams) is in the monounsaturated fat block. When added together the 1.5 g fat in the protein block and the 1.5 g fat in the monounsaturated fat block provide a total of 3 grams of fat. With the block method, if you choose a fat free protein (e.g. egg whte, protien powder, fat free dairy, etc) you would double the number of monounsaturated fat blocks you add to the meal to make up for the fat missing in the protein source. If you choose a protein source that has a more fat than needed, you wouldn't have to add any fat blocks to the meal (it's explained in Zone books).

The reason that 2.5 grams of fat in one block of that milk isn't enough is that a minimum of 3g of fat is needed to fully balance it.
