Last week, I re-started the Zone after many years (years ago I had great success on the Zone). This time, the first 4-5 days were great. It's day 6 and now, I am starting to feel irritable, shaky and having trouble with memory. I have been very very strict applying the Zone principles this time and have lost a bunch of water weight, eating only the favorable carbs. I'm thinking my blood sugar is now too low and am afraid of having a binge to solve it, thereby throwing me off track once again. Can I tweak the Zone? Should I add in an unfavorable carb at each meal? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hopefully your symptoms have resolved by now. It could very well be the effects of the initial AA release that you're feeling. Remember that your fish oil dose should be at least 5 grams daily as you begin the diet, in order to counteract the effects of the AA release. If that is in order, next start rechecking all that you're doing including your protein requirement, meal balance, timing, etc. If all looks good then try changing some of the veggies in your meal to a medium density carb.

Keep us updated!

Pamela, I am also new to the forum, but not really new to the Zone. I think you are pushing things too much and that you are not getting enough carb. The poor memory is the trigger symptom that you mentioned. I used to do Atkins, but I had trouble remembering things. Went back to the Zone and no longer had that problem.
