I have the Zone protein powder and would love to have a basic recipe to make a meal, using just one scoop of the powder. I usually have 1% milk and non-fat yogurt on hand, plus frozen fruit.

Hi Jeri!

Barry Sears developed a very basic shake that he calls the "Big Brain Shake". Here's his description of the shake, quoted from drsears.com

"The recipe for the Big Brain Shake is on page 83 of "The Omega Rx Zone"

For men: 2 cups mixed berries (fresh or thawed frozen) 30 grams of protein powder 1 to 3 teaspoons pharmaceutical grade fish oil

For women: 1 1/3 cups mixed berries (fresh or thawed frozen) 20 grams of protein powder 1 to 3 teaspoons pharmaceutical grade fish oil

You may also use extra virgin olive oil or ground almonds or macadamia nuts. I usually use the frozen berries from Trader Joe's. If the shake is too pasty, add a few ice cubes."

Jeri, using the ingredients that you have, you could make a shake easily with 1 scoop protein powder, 1/2 cup plain nonfat yogurt, 1 cup milk, 1 blocks' worth of fruit, and 2 tsp olive oil. It might be a bit liquid in consistencey, with the milk in it. You could go with 1 cup yogurt and no milk, it will be more thick that way.

Thank you so much, Sue and Cranberrycat! I did The Zone Diet back in 2000-01 lost weight and felt great, but had only read A Week In The Zone and did not do all that is suggested. I always remembered how good I felt after a couple of weeks of being in the Zone and started again in ernest in June of 08. This time I am doing it all and will check out Dr. Sears other sites, plus read more books. Thank you so much for your help with the protein powder!

You're welcome Jeri! It's always nice to hear that another person has decided to come back to the Zone. I wish you all the best. Have fun with it!

I'd suggest to read TOXIC FAT next. It was released a few mos ago and contains the most up to date info. It explains in easy to understand tems the details of how your stored fat can work for and against you, when and how good stored fat can to bad, and more. The info is eye-opening. Every Zone book has it's unique focus, and I think all are great to read.

I've just begun my 15th year of eating in the Zone. Here's to feeling good and having tons of energy!
