Hi! I did the Zone several years ago (about 7-8 years ago) and had great success. Fast forward to today and I really need to lose a good 10-15 pounds. I was looking at diet books at the bookstore, read the Flat Belly Diet and realized it reminded me alot of the Zone, and I remember the Zone gave me TONS of energy! So I have the original Zone Diet book (and I might have a Zone recepe book - an old one.....)

Do I need anything new?? Also, where do you get your fish oil??? From this site or elsewhere? I don't want to be taking fish oil more than once a day - can anyone recommend a type and dose for me?

Thanks <img src='http://www.zonediet.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'> I hope to start Jan. 1 !!

Welcome back, Linda! Good news! You don't need a new Zone book. The only difference that I know of is carrots are now on the preferred carb list. There is a newer book out called the Anti-Inflammation Zone where it also incorporates a point system to the carbs to help make wiser choices, but the method of 1 block for so much carb or the plate method still work!

Regarding the fish oil, Zone Labs' fish oil is the best on the market. It really makes a difference. My doctor used to make his own, and now only carries the Zone's fish oil for his patients. You can't buy this brand in any store, but you can order it directly from this website. I know it is pricey, but it is worth the extra money if you can afford it. However, if you really can't afford it, then Kelly just did a post stating she read in a magazine where Dr. Sears gave some alternative fish oils to use. One of the alternatives is GNC's triple strength fish oil.

Hope this helps, Linda. Keep us posted on your progress!

Hi, Linda!

It is up to you, I don't really think that the concept of zoning has really changed all that much, but Sears does add his spin on inflammation and toxic fat in his newer books. You can get your food list from here. Lots of recipes in the books, but also a collection of recipes here, too.

I get my fish oil from this website. I think that the Omega-3 tab above will give you some guidelines on dosing fish oil. But, if you don't find it, then check back.

Hi Linda!

The basics of the Zone diet haven't changed, but the anti-inflammation aspects of the Zone have evolved greatly since the book you mention (specifically the use of polyphenols and the use of fish oil to enhance results, incl. wt loss results). I'd highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of "Toxic Fat" the recently released book by Barry Sears. The latest research is eye opening and it will certainly be worth reading as returning Zoner.

Fish oil dosage for the average person is usually 1 teaspoon (4 capsules)daily. It's typically taken all at the same time in one dose. If you are overweight or have medical concerns to address (from seemingly minor issues to chronic disease) the amount varies. "Toxic Fat" will explain more. You can also find dosing info in the Anti-Inflammatory Medicine Monograph in the Zone Resources section of drsears.com as well as in the book "The Anti-Inflammation Zone".

BTW, the carb block amounts have been revised since the book you have. You can get them from the block list on this site.

Lost 100 lbs 15 yrs ago, off BP meds, thanks to the Zone diet and Zone fish oil. ZoneFast 1-2-3 is the best!
