Hello again,

O.K. I really need to decrease the amount of food we are eating. Last night I felt absolutely miserable. I was so full.

I keep looking to the list to add stuff that doesn't require much bulk to get that block. I have used slow cooked oats, black beans and kiwi.

Last night I had 2 cups cauliflower, 1 cup carrots, 1/4 cup black beans and a small plum for carbs. Chicken cooked in the olive oil for protein and oil. I felt sick with fullness. Can I add more beans and still get the health effects? Is two cups veggies enough?

2 c cauliflower is 1/2 block
1 c carrots is 1 block
1/4 cup black beans is a block
1 small plum - I figured 1/2 block cause it was really a small one.

Am I on point with my calculations?

One night I added sweet potatoes from the unfavorable list because I just couldn't think of eating so many cups of veggies. I am hoping this does not lesson the health benefits of the zone.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

tonight I made the hot and sour pork with the cabbage/cauliflower (from his anti inflammatory zone book). Again, too much food. I feel so full I am uncomfortable. Last night I didn't have my snack and I can't see having it tonight.

I have to go to the unfavorable list. I can't see any way around it. I don't feel I should drop blocks because I am only at 1100 calories.

Maybe my stomach just needs to get stretched out?

Hey, Texas T!

I have a few suggestions for you:

I would use one block of beans, then have a block of veggies, and perhaps have a block of berries for dessert. That should lessen the problem.

You can also use unfavorables. The recommendation, in order to stay in the Zone, is to have no more than 25% of your carbs coming from unfavorables. So, if you can keep it to no more than one block of your meal, that will help, too.

Hope that helps!

Texas T!

Try a 3 block bowl of chili (diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beans and onions for carbs), Zone cereal with milk and a bit of blueberries or other berries, a 3 or 4 bean salad along side the protein of your choice, chicken parmiagiana made with 1/2 cup spaghetti sauce per serving and a cup of blueberries or 2/3 cups for appleassauce for dessert.

Thanks Ladies, Good ideas. I think I am being a purist a bit. Trying not to stray into the "bad" carbs. But it would be better than quitting or lowering my calorie intact. I just need to relax about it.

Sue, I made one of your favorite lunches today. The veggies with turkey in foil. Loved it. I made my turkey up like for meatloaf with some steal cut oats to cut down those carbs. Seasoned it to taste like Italian sausage (it did) and it was fabulous. Oh, I added some fresh garlic too. I love garlic on everything. It was very good. I was still very full. But not to the point of really feeling ill. I have made the chili from the book, very good stuff!

Had some lightheadedness today. Felt weak in my core. A little shakey inside. I drank a big glass of water and it seemed to help. at 51 I just missed my cycle for the first time. I am also getting hot for just a few seconds at a time. Feels like my blood is hot...if that makes since. I have been hoping for an early menopause. (I have a fibroid tumor). Where am I going with this???? I don't think it is the fish oil????? or maybe it is the fish oil trying to regulate my hormone levels....

Last good news. My Mom got the book today and is starting the program on Thursday, tomorrow. With the information you gave me Sue, I was able to calculate her weight range. She was very happy with it.

The bad news... Hubby has seen some weight come off me and is now getting serious ( I don't think it was my nagging about him having a heart attack and all that). He took his measurements for me to calculate. Uh oh..... he should only be getting 12 blocks... We just started him on the typical male..........cause he didn't want to play right, lol. Well, he has complained about having too much food....no worries....about to cut some blocks outta the picture.....

Hi,

My pleasure Texas T!

Thanks for the update!

You had me wondering where you were going with that too, lol! A tip, don't try to attribute every little thing to the Zone. It is a powerful anti inflammatory diet, but remember that it's just simple healthy food eaten in a sensible manner.

You had me wondering where were going with that too, lol! :) Sounds like the beginings of normal menopause to me (or who knows?). The good news, the Zone diet and fish oil with most likely make menopause easier on you, whenever it happens. I'm 5 yrs post menopause and have never even had a real hot flash. The whole menopause thing has mostly been a non-issue for me.

Great news about your mom! My mom just restarted the Zone today (don't even ask, you don't want to know... lol!). A happy mom, that's good! :)

About your husband, overall I'm looking at it as good. The typical male block amout is far better than not doing the Zone. Its a huge step in the right direction. Even if he drops just one block to 13 a day it should help. The fact that he feels like 14 is too much food to eat might end up being enough to get him to drop to 12 or 13. My husband was the last person to come on board with the Zone at our house, and I'm talking years, not weeks. He's been eat in the Zone at family meals since I began. I cooked the same meal for all adn it's fine with him. But he was not interested in it otherwise. He ate mostly good food, not junk, just not in Zone proportions. But once he decided to do the Zone diet, he's stuck with it ever since. He lost 67 pounds in his first year or less, down to 14% body fat. That was about 5 years ago.

Let us know how your mom and husband do!
