Something I have been wondering about for a while: as far as I understand it, the Zone diet has an anti-ageing effect by means of being a calorie restricted diet. How does the addition of fish oil factor into this, fish oil being very high in calories. Now, I realize that in the case of a healthy person, the calories added by fish oil may not be significant, but how do the benefits or fish oil compare to the benefits of calorie restriction in the case of high dose fish oil supplementation?

Free Radicles cause ageing. Far and away the WORST overeating is carbs. the process to convert them to fat produces mega free radicles. Fish oil also produces free radicles thats why you take vit E to eliminate but on 4 caps a day that is only 40 cals. They say zone average female is 1100 cals and recomended low fat diet is 1500 so at 1140 V 1500 on calories alone you produce far fewer free radicles in zone with PGFO so you age less(contrary to standard zone I personally advise to count FO so it is 1100 v 1500) Without PGFO inflamation is increased, this STRESS ages you far more. I am sure Anne-Marie can give you a far better explanation. White Light

Along the same lines on wondering how fish oil affects the eating part of the program: :?: Capsules (120 count) are listed as 1 gram of fat each. If I take 4 at a meal, should I be adjusting the fat block re food to stay in the ZONE? :?: People often talk about "gelatin" & "protein" in almost the same breath. Is there a significant enough amount of protein between the fish oil & the gelatin coating that I need to tinker with the protein blocks of that meal?

This isn't a big deal, but... The reason Vit. E is with fish oil is not becuz of free radicals produced by FO, but becuz FO is polyunsaturated and thus is vulnerable to free radicals. The Vit E protects it.
