Hi! I am Eva from Sofia, Bulgaria. I have just read Dr. Sears' book (the first one published) and am becoming a great fan of the Zone. However, I spotted a difference in the blocks mentioned in the book and those in the website. Many of the "not very favorable" blocks in the book are completely missing in this site. For dome others, the quantity has been changed. Does that mean that the omitted from the Internet blocks should be dropped completely or what? Thank you! Eva

Only the insulin-stimulating carbs should be considered. Thus, this website and the newer books (ie Omega-Rx, Week in the Zone) contain block amounts that are larger than those in Enter the Zone or Mastering the Zone.

Thank you, Scott! I am sorry, the new books by Dr Sears haven't been published yet in Bulgarian, that's why I haven't seen the new block system. What I mean is, there are for example no quotes about other grains besides oatmeal and barley, while the book says 1/2 slice of full-grain bread is 1 carb block. The same goes for some fruits, juices, etc. Eva

However, most of the changes to carb blocks seems to have affected the high fiber vegetables more so than fruit/grains/juices, so your block list from Enter the Zone for these unfavorables should be accurate. Keep in mind that some breads are now lower in carbs. The brand I buy is 2 slices for 1 block. So you may need to check the nutrition labels to see how many slices is 1 block for bread, rather than relying on the 1/2 slice per block amount.

Scott, that's very helpful. Thank you. Mind though I live quite far away from the mother-country of the Zone, so some of the food descriptions (in the book and in the forums here) are somewhat unclear. example: what is the difference between chicken, deli style and chicken, skinless. To me it sounds like the second type should be better, but it is 1 oz only compared to the deli style which is 1.5 oz In Bulgaria it is also difficult to find the proper information on labels so far, but I hope with the coming closer to the European Union, it will improve. I am doing my best

It is 1.5oz because it has a higher water content than say chicken breast.
