Is there a comprehesive online database of GI values for fruits and vegetables in their various forms? I.E., fruit juice vs. fresh fruit vs. cooked fruit; raw veggies vs. steamed vs. baked?

The best source that I have found is on www.nutritiondata.com. I think they use a "glycemic load" approach, which is more realistic in terms of serving size.

It is important to try to use one source for all comparisons, as each GI scale may have different testing standards. I find I can look up most any food on nutritiondata.com, and I can even look up raw vs. cooked.

Thanks CC for posting that site. I've wondered where I could find info on glycemic load too.

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive.

There is a link on the website that I gave you, that will give you some more information on glycemic load, perhaps taking you to another website. Can't remember it offhand, and I am not on my "normal" computer right now. I think it is www.glycemicindex.com, or something like that. They explain the GI and GL very well, and I believe that the GL data on the nutrition data website gets the GL stats from them.

If you have trouble finding it, just let me know and I will post it when I get home.

Here is a page in the nutrition database website that explains GI and GL pretty well. http://www.nutritiondata.com/topics/glycemic-index
