Limitation of GLA production by inhibition of delta 6 desaturase can be be caused by high carb diet but over consumption of ALA via flax seed/oil and walnuts is also listed in the The Zone book as inhibitor of D6D. How much impact does flax seed and walnuts really have on delta 6 desaturase? I notice in the Anti Aging Zone book that ALA inhibition of D6D is not referenced as a inhibitor of D6D.

I thought you were talking some other language than my own, lol. I just started the Zone, and I have been consuming flax..I didn't know it was a no-no. Anyways, I'll check back for more informative replies than my own.
Cheers,
Rebecca

Hi Tom. I don't have the specific details answer to the technical portion of your qn, but I have read what Barry Sears recomends in regard to flax. He has written that if you want to use it to consume no more than 1T daily (I believe that amount is inregard to teh actual oil). You can read more of his thoughts on fax by doing a search of drsears.com. He's posted his flax opinions in the "Ask Dr. Sears" archives there. Though that source doesn't address some of the specifics you asked for here, it would suffice to give the "verdict". :)

He also devotes an appendix to the flax oil topic, in his book "The Soy Zone". At the moment, there's also another current thread on flax elsewhere in these forums.

In regard to walnuts, they have good properties, and are fine when eaten in small amounts in the Zone. they wouldn't be preferred as your primary everyday source of fat.
