I have heard that when you start up on the zone and fish oil that you have an aa release period that may make you feel not so great. I just got my new bottle of fish oil a few days ago for the first time in bout a month or so maybe more. Ever since i got it i have been experiencing decreased appetite, i have been very anxious, very emotional, and just overall exhausted. I was wondering if these are normal symptoms for aa release.

alex, be sure that you are eating more grams of carbs than protein. your symptoms sound a bit like ketosis to my untrained eye.

i'd also recommend starting with only a tablespoon of fish oil. you can slowly add, if required, once you adapt to that amount.

Hi alex,

I might be able to help out with some suggestions, but I'd need a little more info. How long ago did you begin the Zone diet? Have you been losing any stored fat, and if so, for how long a time has this been? How long ago did you beging taking fish oil (FO) , and how much daily? Are you still taking this same amount daily? Is your newest order of FO a different variety of Zone Labs FO than you bought prior? Specifically which variety of Zone Labs FO are you taking?

I have been eating the zone diet on and off, mostly on, and at about 90 percent accuracy since i was about 16, and i am now 19. I have been taking fish oil for a good year but i took about a month or two off and recently started back up. My first week was horrible but i think i figured out why. I think it was a combination of i was eating a bit too much carbs, i had a lot of stress, and the aa release. Also i switched from eico rx to omega rx, but i take a tiny bit of gla everyday by poking a borage oil pill with a pin and putting a little bit on my finger and put it on my tongue. After i got past that first week being back on fish oil and the zone i started feeling a lot better. I now feel probably the best ive ever felt in my life, but for the last few days ive woke up with headaches. It could be sinuses or it could be because i clench my jaw at night. Im not quite sure. Any ideas for improvement?

Oh also i just recently started eating vegetables at every meal. I think it was holding me back eating only fruit. And jeffrey i think u meant to say start out at just a teaspoon of fish oil not a tablespoon.

I'm just getting round to trying Fish Oil supplements. I've sort of held off for the last 6 months, not wanting to change too much in one go, but I was talking to one of my Crossfit coaches who takes it, and then the main health food chain in England were doing a sale last month, 75% off EPA Fish Oil... It seemed the Universe was conspiring to change my mind!

I bought 400 capsules of the stuff, I'd planned on 1 a day for a year as a starter. It's 1,000mg EPA Fish Oil Concentrate, other than that, I have no idea if it's the right stuff or not. Everyone talks about "ultra refined" and "pharmaceutical quality" but how do I tell?

So I started taking them last week. I think I managed 2 days and came down with a stinking cold! The first this year. I'm sure it was a coincidence but I stopped anyway. Now, the cold has gone, and this thread has reminded me to start taking them again. We'll see how it goes.

Down from 30% Body Fat to 18% in 6 months.
