"Our software allows much more accurate tally of your diet and you should use our calculation of zone blocks rather than ignoring the actual fat that exists in your foods. To be accurate in zone block calculation, you cannot say "I eat/drink food x as protein" and magically this food is pure protein.
Whether it is pure protein or its fat/carb must be accounted for depends on the actual contents of PF or C in the food. One cup of whole milk is not the same as one cup of skim milk in fat content. To disregard the difference is against the precise principle that the zone diet is based on. The zone rep told you to ignore the fat in salmon is most likely because she thought it's too hard to keep track of it or the fat in salmon is too little to bother with. Our software makes these points irrelevant."

from nutrigenie in response to my question about why their program calculates additional fat blocks from a protein source (such as salmon) which in turn does not allow me to add my full 3 blocks of fat (almonds)for that meal...any thoughts from the zone pros? Cheryl

The Zone represents a range of P/C/F. Exacting accuracy isn't necessary, especially in regard to a little extra fat. It's fine to add almonds to a salmon meal if you want. A little bit of extra monounsaturated fat will actually enhance one's ability to stay in the Zone and will not prevent loss of stored fat (dietary fat slows the entry of carbs into blood stream thereby enhancing insulin control). The thing you need to be careful about is making sure you get enought fat. In the case where a fat free protein is chosen, you must add a little extra monounsaturated fat to make up for the fat missing in the protein (the Zone Block system assumes a low fat protein choice, with approximately 1/2 the fat needed to balance being in the P block).
