I am very confused about the amount of fat I need to be taking in! I am a female and understand that at each meal I should be taking in 3 blocks of protein, 3 blocks of carbs and then.....is it 1 block of fat or 3 blocks of fat per meal.
The list in the book says 6 almonds are one block. So does that mean I could eat 6 almonds at one meal or should I be eating 18 almonds!?!? That seems like a lot of fat though.
I AM SO CONFUSED!!! Please help me! The book for some reason is not that clear to me on this subject. I think a dash is a pretty ambiguous amount to interpret......HELP ME!!!

Hi Elise...with a 3 block meal you would need 3 blocks of fat...each block of fat is 1.5 grams...3 almonds equal 1 block of fat so for a 3 block meal that would be 9 almonds...

Fat amounts in 1 block portions...

Almond butter...1/2 Teaspoon
Avocado...1 Tablespoon
Olive oil...1/3 Teaspoon
Olives...3 average size or read lable on jar or can
Peanut Butter(natural)...1/2 Teaspoon
Peanuts...6
Cashews..3
Canola Oil...1/3 Teaspoon
Pistachios...3
Sesame Oil..1/3 Teaspoon

Hope this helped...Carol

Hi Elise..Just a add on to my earlier post about fat blocks...When you comsume a protein that is fat free than you must double the fat block amounts and an example would be..

6 eggs whites are a 3 block meal of protein...egg whites have no fat so you must add an extra 4.5 grams of fat to make up for the loss. It is already assumed that say chicken, beef or fish already have the needed 4.5 grams of fat in them for a 3 block meal.

So if you double the amount of fat for the egg white meal than you add 9 grams of fat..if you are using almonds as your fat then it would total 18 almonds which is where you might have come up with that amount in your post..if you use say olive oil to cook your egg whites than you would use this as some of your fat total instead of all almonds..

Most protein has fat already in it except for egg whites, some protein powders and some cheese and milk products..you need to read lables on the foods and stick to low fat cheeses or milk products if you use these types of foods..Hope I haven't confused you further...Have a nice day...you will get the hang of it eventually..it takes time..Carol :)
