I caught part of a PBS (Pledge offering) show last night. I am fairly certain that the person speaking was the Dr. (?) who came out with the South Beach diet. (AKA phase 1 Atkins, Phase 3 loose version of the Zone).

Anyway, he was proliferating about how it's not just the amount of the LDL and HDL particles, that makes a difference; but more important it's the SIZE of those particles.

Of course, all to promote his "New" plan "South Beach Heart Program".

NOW WHERE HAVE I READ / HEARD THAT, BEFORE? hMMMM? OH, YEAH - DR. SEARS!

He stated that it's the smaller LDL that burrow deep into arterial walls and create build-up. While larger ones are much less harmful and mostly float by. The same for HDL, in that smaller ones are least effective at cleaning out build-up, and larger ones are most effective.

He didn't use the word "beachball" in describing the larger less dense LDL particles; but he might as well have . . . . .

The one I've seen on PBS is with Nicholas Perricone of "The Perricone Prescription" fame. Repackaged Zone as well. And it's simply dreadful to watch him explain the science.

Scott.

The good news is that a lot of the research that Dr Sears did is starting to be spread and/or confirmed by others. So if the South Beach Diet author is more well known, at least some of the facts are getting out there, and it may cause more so-called "educated" doctors to do some digging into the actual research material available. And maybe (am I too optimistic?) develop a wellness/preventitive approach as opposed to the self-perpetuating treat sickness/disease/symptoms after-the-fact approach.

Lol I am a Spanish Zoner and I have read some Perricone books (yes, his diet is Zone Diet) and I would like to prove any skin product of him, but really is it dreadful to watch him explain the science? Incredible!
