Hi! I'd like to know which is the exact half-life of EFA in human body, esp. of GLA, EPA, DHA. For example, if i take 45 mg of GLA, how many hours or days does this dosage reside in my body. Dr. Sears said something like that about EPA and DHA. As i remembered, he stated they remain in human body for several days after intake. Is it possible to take a bigger dosage of GLA (like 45 mg, it's real chalenge to find smaller capsule) and wait 2-3 week until next intake without risking spillover effect? I really don't like oatmeal ! :-) Or, is it ok to take 5 g of EPA and DHA every fifth day instead of 1 g just every day, for example? Thank you.

When taken in significant quantity, it is easily converted to AA, causing the unwanted GLA spill-over effect. GLA is abundant in: Seeds of Borage, Evening Primrose, Black Currant. Avocado, Peanut, and Oatmeal contain smaller quantities of GLA. Gamma-Linolenic(20:3) omega-3,6 fat (DGLA). Pine nuts." So there are other things than oats that have it. Do you know how much you need to take? I don't know the half life, but if it is like EPA, it would only be 2-3 days (at least in my case).

Thx, gofish! I need about 3 mg of GLA/day according to dr. Sears's recommendations, i.e. 1,5 g as person with normal physical activity and additional 1,5 g if proactive. Since i am periodically very active (swimming 3 km/day, biking 3-4 h/day etc.), with 94 kg body mass, i think 3 mg of GLA per day is not too much. Athletes do need close to 10 mg per day, according to dr. Sears, but i am not in that category:-). I know also about various natural sources of GLA. Currently i use Evening Primrose capsules and each contains 45 mg of GLA, which is per day far too much for every person, according to Zone. And you do have really bad problem in my place to find any supplement with smaller dosage of GLA (probably in your place as well:-)). That is why i asked about half-lifes. But if GLA lasts only 2-3 days in my body, independently of dosage i take, then am i not using the right supplement. Borage oil capsules come in even higher concentrations of GLA. Maybe is the best thing to give up GLA supplementation and stick to PGFO only. Thx again!:-)

Excellent idea! But shall evening primrose oil and GLA be stable (not oxidised) after opening and in olive oil-environment for 2 weeks or more? Thank you!:-)

However, I keep oils of that sort in the refrigerator in a closed container to keep them fresh longer.

Fine! I get even a bit further and bought inexpensive vine vacuum saver for taking air out of my fish- and olive-oil bottles, before putting them in refrigerator! This is another trick how freshness can be prolonged and oxidation process can be supressed:-).
