Dear Z-team members, Karl here. Could any of you fine folks tell me how much omega-6 is in sunflower seeds? How health are sunflower seeds? I am addicted to munching on them while watching a little TV. Yes I know the salt isn't great, however my blood pressure is good. Sincerely, Karl

Hi Karl, there's more than 60% linoleic acid (omega-6) in the fat (50% content) of sunflower seeds. They are one of the richest sources in omega-6 (roughly one third of the weight is omega-6). If dried and salted, they are not even a good source of vitamin E neither (they do contain significant amounts when still fresh). At least they are rich in phosphorus, potassium and relatively in magnesium and selenium, if you want to know you can find som' good in them.

Morning Gent, thanks for responding. I was under the impression that we shouldn't be consuming too much Omega-6. Do you have any thoughts on this. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Karl

Omega-6 intake should be kept to a minimum. Small amounts to be used as the building blocks of eicosanoids.

Scott, thanks for the reply. When you have a moment, could you expand your thoughts regarding Omega-6? What intake amounts would be acceptable? If any. I should just quit eating sunflower seeds altogether, however, I'm a nibbler and that would be hard. Sincerely, Karl
