I am fairly new to the zone. Just wondering if one were to use flaxseed in conjunction with the zone regiment, how much should be used? For example: 2 Tablespoons has 90 calories, 60 of which are from fat making 7g of fat; 4g carbs; 3g dietary fiber, 1g sugar and 3g protein.
Should this be substituted for "blocks" and if so, how many blocks of each? The product is FiProFLAX and is a premium cold milled flaxseed that is supposed to be used as a dietary supplement. My eye doctor suggests flaxseed for my eyes (dry-eye). How does this calculate into the zone pyramid? THANKS !!

Thanks for the response :) Are you saying to just include it as a supplement if I want to, but do not calculate it into the blocks?

Candace, what did the Dr. say about the flaxseed and your dry eyes? I've been fighting dry eye myself and would be interested in knowing more. I'll see if I can find it on the net but wondered what he told you.........anything in particular or just that it would help?

Nice to know we dont have to count it !!

Alene: My eye doctor in VA put plugs in my eyes and also put me on flaxseed gel capsules. According to her, flaxseed helps moisturize the eyes. I was also doing Restasis. One of the plugs had to be removed after getting an infection snorkeling in Mexico, and since then I quit with the flaxseed capsules (once my stock was used up) and quit with the Restasis after my most rescent eye doctor visit now that we are in TX. I began the ZONE in May with the fish oil. I just happened to see the ground flaxseed at the pharmacy while waiting for a dermatologist script and asked the pharmacist about it. She highly recommended it as a supplement for dry skin, eyes and colon/digestion. I have been sprinkling it on my oatmeal in the AM - not bad! I just wasn't sure how or if it fit in with the ZONE. Guess I will give it a month and see how it goes.

Thanks so much for the info Candace! I'm in TX too! Wonder if we're close.....I'm in a little town about an hr. away from Tyler, in East TX.
The Dr. has talked about putting the plugs in mine too. I'm suppose to be on REstasis but keep forgetting to use it! I have, although, been using some gel in my eyes at night and drops in the morning.........now if I can just replace those with the habit of using the restasis, I'll be doing better! lol
He has never said anything about the flaxseed. Do you think , now that you are using the ground version.....do you think the capsules of oil or the ground is working better....or about the same? I know , at our local health food store, they have the flaxseed oil you can just take by the Teaspoon or put in something, but, you have to keep it refrigerated like the Omega RX. Wow, I have some occasional colon irregularity too and my skin is also dry...........maybe I just need to get some flaxseed in SOME form!! Thanks so much, I'll check into it.

Let me know where you are.........if you want to, either way is fine I'll understand............but, in case you just dont want to post here........you can email me at alene1@valornet.com , again, if you want to.

Let me know what you think about the flaxseed oil versus the ground.

I think if you were to use the oil, you would have to count it..It has 14g fat/tablespoon!
