The weekend before last, I spent time searching forums for ideas on how to treat psoriasis naturally, and I started seeing "The Zone" again and again. After doing some searching, I found the Anti-Inflammation Zone and bought it from eBooks and read most of it. So, I started the diet last Monday.
I started not just for my psoriasis, but for the psoriatic arthritis, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol I have as well. I'm currently on A LOT of medication for all four, the last two being new developments since I've put on about 40 pounds this last year. I'm 32, so the idea of taking all these medicines forever is very depressing. I've had psoriasis since I was 19 and the arthritis since I was about 23, but I didn't get properly diagnosed until almost 4 years ago when I was put on methotrexate and Enbrel. I've been off methotrexate for two month now, and my somewhat dormant psoriasis is coming back strong.
As far as my weight issues...About 5 years ago, I went to Weight Watchers and lost 55 pounds, and kept most of it off for most of that time. This past year though, I haven't been able to have any self-control. I even went back to WW and only lasted a week.
All of that being said, I'm on day 9 and I've lost 7 pounds. More importantly, I didn't wake up with arthritic stiffness (it's been a while). Strangely, I'm itching all over and haven't seen an improvement in my skin yet. I'm hoping to be get off BP and cholesterol meds in the next 3 months, and medication for arthritis in the next year. And I would really like my energy back. I read one post where someone did get taken off of Enbrel...but I would be encouraged to hear other stories of other arthritis sufferers who don't need biologics anymore.
I plan to frequent this forum, so this is my introduction. I also thrive on support (one of the benefits of WW), as well as cheerleading, so I'm here for that too.

Welcome Brandy! I'm sorry that you have such health issues. I hope that you find the Zone way of eating a huge help for your whole body.

I had high cholesterol and high fasting blood sugar levels, wasnt on meds YET but the Dr. gave me the choice of getting on meds or doing the Zone........I chose the Zone way of eating because I dont like taking meds.....in three months of being very strict with my eating, I had lowered my levels significantly enough to say, eat whole eggs instead of just the whites, etc., but, not too many variations from the Zone original. AND, as a great side effect, lost 17 lbs.!

Thankfullly, no arthritis but I'm hoping others that have had it will write you. I havent been good about staying on it lately and have gained a lot back, so, I'm just now getting back to more normal Zone eating..........we both need encouragement!! I just didnt watch myself close enough during the holidays and a vacation and really got off the track of eating good. I'm feeling the effects in being too tired most of the time and in my weight. But, I will get back to eating right and before long, the weight will drop back off and I will be having a bit more energy!

Take care, get on the plan and enjoy the good foods !
have a blessed day!

Hi Brandy,

I've also replied to your post in the Weight Loss forum. Just wanted to add here that two individuals in my family with arthritis have had excellent results with the Zone diet and Omega Rx fish oil. Both people were able to go off their athritis pain meds after only several weeks at the appropriate dose of Omega RX. Both of these individuals take the Omega Rx dose recommended for arthritis (2 tablespoons, or 8 capsules daily). One of these people has recently switched to Eico Rx, with equally excellent results.

You can turn your situation around for the better. I was on two blood pressure meds but still had high blood pressure. I was able to go off those 2 BP meds (with my dr's help and recommendation) just two weeks after beginning on Omega RX. That was about 7 years ago, and I haven't needed any BP meds since! My BP is the lowest its ever been. It averges about 105/65!

Omdega RX will also resolve psoriasis.

Hi Nina,

You're welcome!

I've never been on 8 caps. My two relatives with arthritis are each on 8 caps.

I began with about 4 caps, but quickly found it was too much for me. It was due to that experience that I became acquainted with Barry Sears. I was having low BP symptoms and feeling spacy within 45 minutes of a fish oil dose. Finally I submitted a question about it on DrSears.com, and was very surprised when I was contacted to see if I would accept Dr. Sears' personal help. Mine was quite an unusual situation. I now take 2 caps of Eico Rx daily, dropping to one every third day, and then repeating (2-2-1-2-2-1, etc). This is the dose Dr Sears most recently helped me work out, considering all my info, including my AA/EPA test.

The average person (also a person with high blood pressure) would begin with 1 tsp or 4 caps daily.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will look into the capsules you recommend Sue. I'm on two bp pills a day and it's still 150/105. I'm willing to try anything. :)

You're welcome Brandy! Youre situation sounds like mine was. My doc had kept trying different combinations of BP meds for me (most with undesireable side effects), but none would lower my BP even into the normal ranges. I was around 160/98 even on two BP meds.

Just a note, I tried 3 other brands of fish oil befor using Zone Labs Omega Rx (Omega Rx wasn't yet available for sale to the public at the time). None of those three brands helped to lower my blood pressure. When Dr Sears stepped in to help me, he offered me Omega Rx. I began to have results with the very first dose!

You're in the right place Brandy. I just posted about my own low blood pressure in this forum, so won't repeat it here. I'm sure in a years time you'll look back at your post here, laugh and wonder how you survived without the Zone!

Good luck.
